Dize ã sabedoria: Tu és minha irmã; e chama ao entendimento teu amigo íntimo,

5 T o preserve thee from a strange woman, From a stranger who hath made smooth her sayings.

para te guardarem da mulher alheia, da adúltera, que lisonjeia com as suas palavras.

6 F or, at a window of my house, Through my casement I have looked out,

Porque da janela da minha casa, por minhas grades olhando eu,

7 A nd I do see among the simple ones, I discern among the sons, A young man lacking understanding,

vi entre os simples, divisei entre os jovens, um mancebo falto de juízo,

8 P assing on in the street, near her corner, And the way her house he doth step,

que passava pela rua junto ã esquina da mulher adúltera e que seguia o caminho da sua casa,

9 I n the twilight -- in the evening of day, In the darkness of night and blackness.

no crepúsculo, ã tarde do dia, ã noite fechada e na escuridão;

10 A nd, lo, a woman to meet him -- (A harlot's dress, and watchful of heart,

e eis que uma mulher lhe saiu ao encontro, ornada ã moda das prostitutas, e astuta de coração.

11 N oisy she, and stubborn, In her house her feet rest not.

Ela é turbulenta e obstinada; não param em casa os seus pés;

12 N ow in an out-place, now in broad places, And near every corner she lieth in wait) --

ora está ela pelas ruas, ora pelas praças, espreitando por todos os cantos.

13 A nd she laid hold on him, and kissed him, She hath hardened her face, and saith to him,

Pegou dele, pois, e o beijou; e com semblante impudico lhe disse:

14 ` Sacrifices of peace-offerings by me, To-day I have completed my vows.

Sacrifícios pacíficos tenho comigo; hoje paguei os meus votos.

15 T herefore I have come forth to meet thee, To seek earnestly thy face, and I find thee.

Por isso saí ao teu encontro a buscar-te diligentemente, e te achei.

Já cobri a minha cama de cobertas, de colchas de linho do Egito.

17 I sprinkled my bed -- myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

Já perfumei o meu leito com mirra, aloés e cinamomo.

Vem, saciemo-nos de amores até pela manhã; alegremo-nos com amores.

19 F or the man is not in his house, He hath gone on a long journey.

Porque meu marido não está em casa; foi fazer uma jornada ao longe;

20 A bag of money he hath taken in his hand, At the day of the new moon he cometh to his house.'

um saquitel de dinheiro levou na mão; só lá para o dia da lua cheia voltará para casa.

21 S he turneth him aside with the abundance of her speech, With the flattery of her lips she forceth him.

Ela o faz ceder com a multidão das suas palavras sedutoras, com as lisonjas dos seus lábios o arrasta.

22 H e is going after her straightway, As an ox unto the slaughter he cometh, And as a fetter unto the chastisement of a fool,

Ele a segue logo, como boi que vai ao matadouro, e como o louco ao castigo das prisões;

23 T ill an arrow doth split his liver, As a bird hath hastened unto a snare, And hath not known that it for its life.

até que uma flecha lhe atravesse o fígado, como a ave que se apressa para o laço, sem saber que está armado contra a sua vida.

24 A nd now, ye sons, hearken to me, And give attention to sayings of my mouth.

Agora, pois, filhos, ouvi-me, e estai atentos

25 L et not thy heart turn unto her ways, Do not wander in her paths,

Não se desvie para os seus caminhos o teu coração, e não andes perdido nas suas veredas.

26 F or many the wounded she caused to fall, And mighty all her slain ones.

Porque ela a muitos tem feito cair feridos; e são muitíssimos os que por ela foram mortos.

27 T he ways of Sheol -- her house, Going down unto inner chambers of death!
