1 W herefore from the Mighty One Times have not been hidden, And those knowing Him have not seen His days.

Por que o Todo-Poderoso não designa tempos? e por que os que o conhecem não vêem os seus dias?

2 T he borders they reach, A drove they have taken violently away, Yea, they do evil.

Há os que removem os limites; roubam os rebanhos, e os apascentam.

3 T he ass of the fatherless they lead away, They take in pledge the ox of the widow,

Levam o jumento do órfão, tomam em penhor o boi da viúva.

4 T hey turn aside the needy from the way, Together have hid the poor of the earth.

Desviam do caminho os necessitados; e os oprimidos da terra juntos se escondem.

5 L o, wild asses in a wilderness, They have gone out about their work, Seeking early for prey, A mixture for himself -- food for young ones.

Eis que, como jumentos monteses no deserto, saem eles ao seu trabalho, procurando no ermo a presa que lhes sirva de sustento para seus filhos.

6 I n a field his provender they reap, And the vineyard of the wicked they glean.

No campo segam o seu pasto, e vindimam a vinha do ímpio.

7 T he naked they cause to lodge Without clothing. And there is no covering in the cold.

Passam a noite nus, sem roupa, não tendo coberta contra o frio.

8 F rom the inundation of hills they are wet, And without a refuge -- have embraced a rock.

Pelas chuvas das montanhas são molhados e, por falta de abrigo, abraçam-se com as rochas.

9 T hey take violently away From the breast the orphan, And on the poor they lay a pledge.

Há os que arrancam do peito o órfão, e tomam o penhor do pobre;

10 N aked, they have gone without clothing, And hungry -- have taken away a sheaf.

fazem que estes andem nus, sem roupa, e, embora famintos, carreguem os molhos.

11 B etween their walls they make oil, Wine-presses they have trodden, and thirst.

Espremem o azeite dentro dos muros daqueles homens; pisam os seus lagares, e ainda têm sede.

12 B ecause of enmity men do groan, And the soul of pierced ones doth cry, And God doth not give praise.

Dentro das cidades gemem os moribundos, e a alma dos feridos clama; e contudo Deus não considera o seu clamor.

13 T hey have been among rebellious ones of light, They have not discerned His ways, Nor abode in His paths.

Há os que se revoltam contra a luz; não conhecem os caminhos dela, e não permanecem nas suas veredas.

14 A t the light doth the murderer rise, He doth slay the poor and needy, And in the night he is as a thief.

O homicida se levanta de madrugada, mata o pobre e o necessitado, e de noite torna-se ladrão.

15 A nd the eye of an adulterer Hath observed the twilight, Saying, `No eye doth behold me.' And he putteth the face in secret.

Também os olhos do adúltero aguardam o crepúsculo, dizendo: Ninguém me verá; e disfarça o rosto.

16 H e hath dug in the darkness -- houses; By day they shut themselves up, They have not known light.

Nas trevas minam as casas; de dia se conservam encerrados; não conhecem a luz.

17 W hen together, morning to them death shade, When he discerneth the terrors of death shade.

Pois para eles a profunda escuridão é a sua manhã; porque são amigos das trevas espessas.

18 L ight he on the face of the waters, Vilified is their portion in the earth, He turneth not the way of vineyards.

São levados ligeiramente sobre a face das águas; maldita é a sua porção sobre a terra; não tornam pelo caminho das vinhas.

19 D rought -- also heat -- consume snow-waters, Sheol have sinned.

A sequidão e o calor desfazem as, águas da neve; assim faz o Seol aos que pecaram.

20 F orget him doth the womb, Sweeten him doth the worm, No more is he remembered, And broken as a tree is wickedness.

A madre se esquecerá dele; os vermes o comerão gostosamente; não será mais lembrado; e a iniqüidade se quebrará como árvore.

21 T reating evil the barren beareth not, And the widow he doth no good,

Ele despoja a estéril que não dá ã luz, e não faz bem ã viúva.

22 A nd hath drawn the mighty by his power, He riseth, and none believeth in life.

Todavia Deus prolonga a vida dos valentes com a sua força; levantam-se quando haviam desesperado da vida.

23 H e giveth to him confidence, and he is supported, And his eyes on their ways.

Se ele lhes dá descanso, estribam-se, nisso; e os seus olhos estão sobre os caminhos deles.

24 H igh they were a little, and they are not, And they have been brought low. As all they are shut up, And as the head of an ear of corn cut off.

Eles se exaltam, mas logo desaparecem; são abatidos, colhidos como os demais, e cortados como as espigas do trigo.

25 A nd if not now, who doth prove me a liar, And doth make of nothing my word?

Se não é assim, quem me desmentirá e desfará as minhas palavras?
