1 H ear this word that I am bearing to you, A lamentation, O house of Israel:

Ouvi esta palavra que levanto como lamentação sobre vós, ó casa de Israel.

2 ` Fallen, not again to rise, hath the virgin of Israel, Left on her land -- she hath no raiser up.'

A virgem de Israel caiu; nunca mais tornará a levantar-se; desamparada jaz na sua terra; não há quem a levante.

3 F or thus said the Lord Jehovah: The city that is going out a thousand, Doth leave an hundred, And that which is going out an hundred, Doth leave ten to the house of Israel.

Porque assim diz o Senhor Deus: A cidade da qual saem mil terá de resto cem, e aquela da qual saem cem terá dez para a casa de Israel.

4 F or thus said Jehovah to the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live,

Pois assim diz o Senhor ã casa de Israel: Buscai-me, e vivei.

5 A nd seek not Beth-El, and Gilgal enter not, And Beer-Sheba pass not through, For Gilgal doth utterly remove, And Beth-El doth become vanity.

Mas não busqueis a Betel, nem entreis em Gilgal, nem passeis a Berseba; porque Gilgal certamente irá ao cativeiro, e Betel será desfeita em nada.

6 S eek ye Jehovah, and live, Lest He prosper as fire the house of Joseph, And it hath consumed, And there is no quencher for Beth-El.

Buscai ao Senhor, e vivei; para que ele não irrompa na casa de José como fogo e a consuma, e não haja em Betel quem o apague.

7 Y e who are turning to wormwood judgment, And righteousness to the earth have put down,

Vós que converteis o juízo em alosna, e deitais por terra a justiça,

8 T he maker of Kimah and Kesil, And the turner to morning of death-shade, And day night He hath made dark, Who is calling to the waters of the sea, And poureth them on the face of the earth, Jehovah His name;

procurai aquele que fez as Plêiades e o Oriom, e torna a sombra da noite em manhã, e transforma o dia em noite; o que chama as águas do mar, e as derrama sobre a terra; o Senhor é o seu nome.

9 W ho is brightening up the spoiled against the strong, And the spoiled against a fortress cometh.

O que faz vir súbita destruição sobre o forte, de sorte que vem a ruína sobre a fortaleza.

10 T hey have hated a reprover in the gate, And a plain speaker they abominate.

Eles odeiam ao que na porta os repreende, e abominam ao que fala a verdade.

11 T herefore, because of your trampling on the poor, And the tribute of corn ye take from him, Houses of hewn work ye have built, And ye do not dwell in them, Desirable vineyards ye have planted, And ye do not drink their wine.

Portanto, visto que pisais o pobre, e dele exigis tributo de trigo, embora tenhais edificado casas de pedras lavradas, não habitareis nelas; e embora tenhais plantado vinhas desejáveis, não bebereis do seu vinho.

12 F or I have known -- many your transgressions, And mighty your sins, Adversaries of the righteous, taking ransoms, And the needy in the gate ye turned aside.

Pois sei que são muitas as vossas transgressões, e graves os vossos pecados; afligis o justo, aceitais peitas, e na porta negais o direito aos necessitados.

13 T herefore is the wise at that time silent, For an evil time it.

Portanto, o que for prudente guardará silêncio naquele tempo, porque o tempo será mau.

14 S eek good, and not evil, that ye may live, And it is so; Jehovah, God of Hosts, with you, as ye said.

Buscai o bem, e não o mal, para que vivais; e assim o Senhor, o Deus dos exércitos, estará convosco, como dizeis.

15 H ate evil, and love good, And set up judgment in the gate, It may be Jehovah, God of Hosts, doth pity the remnant of Joseph.

Aborrecei o mal, e amai o bem, e estabelecei o juízo na porta. Talvez o Senhor, o Deus dos exércitos, tenha piedade do resto de José.

16 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Hosts, the Lord, In all broad places lamentation, And in all out-places they say, `Alas, alas,' And called the husbandman to mourning, And to lamentation the skilful of wailing.

Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Deus dos exércitos, o Senhor: Em todas as praças haverá pranto, e em todas as ruas dirão: Ai! ai! E ao lavrador chamarão para choro, e para pranto os que souberem prantear.

17 A nd in all vineyards lamentation, For I pass into thy midst, said Jehovah.

E em todas as vinhas haverá pranto; porque passarei pelo meio de ti, diz o Senhor.

18 H o, ye who are desiring the day of Jehovah, Why this to you -- the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light,

Ai de vós que desejais o dia do Senhor! Para que quereis vós este dia do Senhor? Ele é trevas e não luz.

19 A s one fleeth from the face of the lion, And the bear hath met him, And he hath come in to the house, And hath leant his hand on the wall, And the serpent hath bitten him.

E como se um homem fugisse de diante do leão, e se encontrasse com ele o urso; ou como se, entrando em casa, encostasse a mão ã parede, e o mordesse uma cobra.

20 I s not the day of Jehovah darkness and not light, Even thick darkness that hath no brightness?

Não será, pois, o dia do Senhor trevas e não luz? não será completa escuridade, sem nenhum resplendor?

21 I have hated -- I have loathed your festivals, And I am not refreshed by your restraints.

Aborreço, desprezo as vossas festas, e não me deleito nas vossas assembléias solenes.

22 F or though ye cause burnt-offerings and your presents to ascend to Me, I am not pleased, And the peace-offering of your fatlings I behold not.

Ainda que me ofereçais holocaustos, juntamente com as vossas ofertas de cereais, não me agradarei deles; nem atentarei para as ofertas pacíficas de vossos animais cevados.

23 T urn aside from Me the noise of thy songs, Yea, the praise of thy psaltery I hear not.

Afasta de mim o estrépito dos teus cânticos, porque não ouvirei as melodias das tuas liras.

24 A nd roll on as waters doth judgment, And righteousness as a perennial stream.

Corra, porém, a justiça como as águas, e a retidão como o ribeiro perene.

25 S acrifices and offering did ye bring nigh to Me, In a wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

Oferecestes-me vós sacrifícios e oblações no deserto por quarenta anos, ó casa de Israel?

26 A nd ye bare Succoth your king, and Chiun your images, The star of your god, that ye made for yourselves.

Sim, levastes Sicute, vosso rei, e Quium, vosso deus-estrela, imagens que fizestes para vos mesmos.

27 A nd I removed you beyond Damascus, Said Jehovah, God of Hosts His name.

Portanto vos levarei cativos para além de Damasco, diz o Senhor, cujo nome é o Deus dos exércitos.
