1 ` These things I have spoken to you, that ye may not be stumbled,

Tenho-vos dito estas coisas para que não vos escandalizeis.

2 o ut of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour doth come, that every one who hath killed you, may think to offer service unto God;

Expulsar-vos-ão das sinagogas; ainda mais, vem a hora em que qualquer que vos matar julgará prestar um serviço a Deus.

3 a nd these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me.

E isto vos farão, porque não conheceram ao Pai nem a mim.

4 ` But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, ye may remember them, that I said to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you;

Mas tenho-vos dito estas coisas, a fim de que, quando chegar aquela hora, vos lembreis de que eu vo-las tinha dito. Não vo-las disse desde o princípio, porque estava convosco.

5 a nd now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you doth ask me, Whither dost thou go?

Agora, porém, vou para aquele que me enviou; e nenhum de vós me pergunta: Para onde vais?

6 b ut because these things I have said to you, the sorrow hath filled your heart.

Antes, porque vos disse isto, o vosso coração se encheu de tristeza.

7 ` But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;

Todavia, digo-vos a verdade, convém-vos que eu vá; pois se eu não for, o Ajudador não virá a vós; mas, se eu for, vo-lo enviarei.

8 a nd having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment;

E quando ele vier, convencerá o mundo do pecado, da justiça e do juízo:

9 c oncerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me;

do pecado, porque não crêem em mim;

10 a nd concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me;

da justiça, porque vou para meu Pai, e não me vereis mais,

11 a nd concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

e do juízo, porque o príncipe deste mundo já está julgado.

12 ` I have yet many things to say to you, but ye are not able to bear now;

Ainda tenho muito que vos dizer; mas vós não o podeis suportar agora.

13 a nd when He may come -- the Spirit of truth -- He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you;

Quando vier, porém, aquele, o Espírito da verdade, ele vos guiará a toda a verdade; porque não falará por si mesmo, mas dirá o que tiver ouvido, e vos anunciará as coisas vindouras.

14 H e will glorify me, because of mine He will take, and will tell to you.

Ele me glorificará, porque receberá do que é meu, e vo-lo anunciará.

15 ` All things, as many as the Father hath, are mine; because of this I said, That of mine He will take, and will tell to you;

Tudo quanto o Pai tem é meu; por isso eu vos disse que ele, recebendo do que é meu, vo-lo anunciará.

16 a little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.'

Um pouco, e já não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis.

17 T herefore said of his disciples one to another, `What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?'

Então alguns dos seus discípulos perguntaram uns para os outros: Que é isto que nos diz? Um pouco, e não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis; e: Porquanto vou para o Pai?

18 t hey said then, `What is this he saith -- the little while? we have not known what he saith.'

Diziam pois: Que quer dizer isto: Um pouco? Não compreendemos o que ele está dizendo.

19 J esus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, `Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

Percebeu Jesus que o queriam interrogar, e disse-lhes: Indagais entre vós acerca disto que disse: Um pouco, e não me vereis; e outra vez um pouco, e ver-me-eis?

20 v erily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become.

Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo que vós chorareis e vos lamentareis, mas o mundo se alegrará; vós estareis tristes, porém a vossa tristeza se converterá em alegria.

21 ` The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world.

A mulher, quando está para dar ã luz, sente tristeza porque é chegada a sua hora; mas, depois de ter dado ã luz a criança, já não se lembra da aflição, pelo gozo de haver um homem nascido ao mundo.

22 ` And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you,

Assim também vós agora, na verdade, tendes tristeza; mas eu vos tornarei a ver, e alegrar-se-á o vosso coração, e a vossa alegria ninguém vo-la tirará.

23 a nd in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you;

Naquele dia nada me perguntareis. Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que tudo quanto pedirdes ao Pai, ele vo-lo concederá em meu nome.

24 t ill now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Até agora nada pedistes em meu nome; pedi, e recebereis, para que o vosso gozo seja completo.

25 ` These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you.

Disse-vos estas coisas por figuras; chega, porém, a hora em que vos não falarei mais por figuras, mas abertamente vos falarei acerca do Pai.

26 ` In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you,

Naquele dia pedireis em meu nome, e não vos digo que eu rogarei por vós ao Pai;

27 f or the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;

pois o Pai mesmo vos ama; visto que vós me amastes e crestes que eu saí de Deus.

28 I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'

Saí do Pai, e vim ao mundo; outra vez deixo o mundo, e vou para o Pai.

29 H is disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou;

Disseram os seus discípulos: Eis que agora falas abertamente, e não por figura alguma.

30 n ow we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.'

Agora conhecemos que sabes todas as coisas, e não necessitas de que alguém te interrogue. Por isso cremos que saíste de Deus.

31 J esus answered them, `Now do ye believe? lo, there doth come an hour,

Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Credes agora?

32 a nd now it hath come, that ye may be scattered, each to his own things, and me ye may leave alone, and I am not alone, because the Father is with me;

Eis que vem a hora, e já é chegada, em que vós sereis dispersos cada um para o seu lado, e me deixareis só; mas não estou só, porque o Pai está comigo.

33 t hese things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage -- I have overcome the world.'

Tenho-vos dito estas coisas, para que em mim tenhais paz. No mundo tereis tribulações; mas tende bom ânimo, eu venci o mundo.
