1 T hus said Jehovah: Lo, I am stirring up against Babylon, And the inhabitants of Leb -- My withstanders, A destroying wind,

Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um vento destruidor contra Babilônia, e contra os que habitam na Caldéia.

2 A nd I have sent to Babylon fanners, And they have fanned it, and they empty its land, For they have been against it, Round about -- in the day of evil.

E enviarei padejadores contra Babilônia, que a padejarão, e esvaziarão a sua terra, quando vierem contra ela em redor no dia da calamidade.

3 L et not the treader tread his bow, Nor lift himself up in his coat of mail, Nor have ye pity on her young men, Devote ye to destruction all her host.

Não arme o flecheiro o seu arco, nem se levante o que estiver armado da sua couraça; não perdoeis aos seus jovens; destruí completamente todo o seu exército.

4 A nd fallen have the wounded in the land of the Chaldeans, And the pierced-through in her streets.

Cairão mortos na terra dos caldeus, e feridos nas ruas dela.

5 F or, not forsaken is Israel and Judah, By its God -- by Jehovah of Hosts, For their land hath been full of guilt, Against the Holy One of Israel.

Pois Israel e Judá não foram abandonados do seu Deus, o Senhor dos exércitos, ainda que a terra deles esteja cheia de culpas contra o Santo de Israel.

6 F lee ye from the midst of Babylon, And deliver ye each his soul, Be not cut off in its iniquity, For a time of vengeance it to Jehovah, Recompence He is rendering to her.

Fugi do meio de Babilônia, e livre cada um a sua vida; não sejais exterminados na sua punição; pois este é o tempo da vingança do Senhor; ele lhe dará o pago.

7 A golden cup Babylon in the hand of Jehovah, Making drunk all the earth, Of its wine drunk have nations, Therefore boast themselves do nations.

Na mão do Senhor a Babilônia era um copo de ouro, o qual embriagava a toda a terra; do seu vinho beberam as nações; por isso as nações estão fora de si.

8 S uddenly hath Babylon fallen, Yea, it is broken, howl ye for it, Take balm for her pain, if so be it may be healed.

Repentinamente caiu Babilônia, e ficou arruinada; uivai sobre ela; tomai bálsamo para a sua dor, talvez sare.

9 W e healed Babylon, and she was not healed, Forsake her, and we go, each to his land, For come unto the heavens hath its judgment, And it hath been lifted up unto the clouds.

Queríamos sarar Babilônia, ela, porém, não sarou; abandonai- a, e vamo-nos, cada qual para a sua terra; pois o seu julgamento chega até o céu, e se eleva até as mais altas nuvens.

10 J ehovah hath brought forth our righteousnesses, Come, and we recount in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.

O Senhor trouxe ã luz a nossa justiça; vinde e anunciemos em Sião a obra do Senhor nosso Deus.

11 C leanse ye the arrows, fill the shields, Stirred up hath Jehovah the spirit of the kings of Madia, For against Babylon His device to destroy it, For the vengeance of Jehovah it, The vengeance of His temple.

Aguçai as flechas, preperai os escudos; o Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis dos medos; porque o seu intento contra Babilônia é para a destruir; pois esta é a vingança do Senhor, a vingança do seu templo.

12 U nto the walls of Babylon lift up an ensign, Strengthen the watch, Establish the watchers, prepare the ambush, For Jehovah hath both devised and done that which He spake, Concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

Arvorai um estandarte sobre os muros de Babilônia, reforçai a guarda, colocai sentinelas, preparai as emboscadas; porque o Senhor tanto intentou como efetuou o que tinha dito acerca dos moradores de Babilônia.

13 O dweller on many waters, abundant in treasures, Come in hath thine end, the measure of thy dishonest gain.

ç tu, que habitas sobre muitas águas, rica de tesouros! é chegado o teu fim, a medida da tua ganância.

14 S worn hath Jehovah of Hosts by Himself, That, Surely I have filled thee men as the cankerworm, And they have cried against thee -- shouting.

Jurou o Senhor dos exércitos por si mesmo, dizendo: Certamente te encherei de homens, como de locustas; e eles levantarão o grito de vitória sobre ti.

15 T he maker of earth by His power, The establisher of the world by His wisdom, Who by His understanding stretched out the heavens,

É ele quem fez a terra com o seu poder, estabeleceu o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e estendeu os céus com o seu entendimento.

16 A t the voice He giveth forth, A multitude of waters in the heavens, And He causeth vapours to come up from the end of the earth, Lightnings for rain He hath made, And He bringeth out wind from His treasures.

 sua voz, há grande tumulto de águas nas céus, e ele faz subir os vapores desde as extremidades da terra; faz os relâmpagos para a chuva, e tira o vento dos seus tesouros.

17 B rutish hath been every man by knowledge, Put to shame hath been every refiner by a graven image, For false his molten image, And there is no breath in them.

Embruteceu-se todo homem, de modo que não tem conhecimento; todo ourives é envergonhado pelas suas imagens esculpidas; pois as suas imagens de fundição são mentira, e não há espírito em nenhuma delas.

18 V anity they -- work of errors, In the time of their inspection they perish.

Vaidade são, obra de enganos; no tempo em que eu as visitar perecerão.

19 N ot like these the portion of Jacob, For He former of all things, And the rod of His inheritance, Jehovah of Hosts His name.

Não é semelhante a estes a porção de Jacó; porque ele é o que forma todas as coisas; e Israel é a tribo da sua herança; o Senhor dos exércitos é o seu nome.

20 A n axe thou to me -- weapons of war, And I have broken in pieces by thee nations, And I have destroyed by thee kingdoms,

Tu me serves de martelo e de armas de guerra; contigo despedaçarei nações, e contigo destruirei os reis;

21 A nd I have broken in pieces by thee horse and its rider, And I have broken in pieces by thee chariot and its charioteer,

contigo despedaçarei o cavalo e o seu cavaleiro; contigo despedaçarei e carro e o que nele vai;

22 A nd I have broken in pieces by thee man and woman, And I have broken in pieces by thee old and young, And I have broken in pieces by thee young man and virgin,

contigo despedaçarei o homem e a mulher; contigo despedaçarei o velho e o moço; contigo despedaçarei o mancebo e a donzela;

23 A nd I have broken in pieces by thee shepherd and his drove, And I have broken in pieces by thee husbandman and his team, And I have broken in pieces by thee governors and prefects.

contigo despedaçarei o pastor e o seu rebanho; contigo despedaçarei o lavrador e a sua junta de bois; e contigo despedaçarei governadores e magistrados.

24 A nd I have recompensed to Babylon, And to all inhabitants of Chaldea, All the evil that they have done in Zion, Before your eyes -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

Ante os vossos olhos pagarei a Babilônia, e a todos os moradores da Caldéia, toda a sua maldade que fizeram em Sião, diz o Senhor.

25 L o, I against thee, O destroying mount, An affirmation of Jehovah, That is destroying all the earth, And I have stretched out My hand against thee, And I have rolled thee from the rocks, And given thee for a burnt mountain.

Eis-me aqui contra ti, ó monte destruidor, diz o Senhor, que destróis toda a terra; estenderei a minha mão contra ti, e te revolverei dos penhascos abaixo, e farei de ti um monte incendiado.

26 A nd they take not out of thee a stone for a corner, And a stone for foundations, For desolations age-during art thou, An affirmation of Jehovah.

E não tomarão de ti pedra para esquina, nem pedra para fundamentos; mas desolada ficarás perpetuamente, diz o Senhor.

27 L ift ye up an ensign in the land, Blow a trumpet among nations, Sanctify against it nations, Summon against it the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz, Appoint against it an infant head, Cause the horse to ascend as the rough cankerworm.

Arvorai um estandarte na terra, tocai a trombeta entre as nações, preparai as nações contra ela, convocai contra ela os reinos de Arará, Mini, e Asquenaz; ponde sobre ela um capitão, fazei subir cavalos, como locustas eriçadas.

28 S anctify against it the nations with the kings of Media, Its governors and all its prefects, And all the land of its dominion.

Preparai contra ela as nações, os reis dos medos, os seus governadores e magistrados, e toda a terra do seu domínio.

29 A nd shake doth the land, and it is pained, For stood against Babylon have the purposes of Jehovah, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant.

E a terra estremece e está angustiada; porque os desígnios do Senhor estão firmes contra Babilônia, para fazer da terra de Babilônia uma desolação, sem habitantes.

30 C eased have the mighty of Babylon to fight, They have remained in strongholds, Failed hath their might, they have become woman, They have burnt her tabernacles, Broken have been her bars.

Os valentes de Babilônia cessaram de pelejar, ficam nas fortalezas, desfaleceu a sua força, tornaram-se como mulheres; incendiadas são as suas moradas, quebrados os seus ferrolhos.

31 R unner to meet runner doth run, And announcer to meet announcer, To announce to the king of Babylon, For, captured hath been his city -- at the extremity.

Um correio corre ao encontro de outro correio, e um mensageiro ao encontro de outro mensageiro, para anunciar ao rei de Babilônia que a sua cidade está tomada de todos os lados.

32 A nd the passages have been captured, And the reeds they have burnt with fire, And the men of war have been troubled.

E os vaus estão ocupados, os canaviais queimados a fogo, e os homens de guerra assombrados.

33 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, The daughter of Babylon as a threshing-floor, The time of her threshing -- yet a little, And come hath the time of her harvest.

Pois assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: A filha de Babilônia é como a eira no tempo da debulha; ainda um pouco, e o tempo da sega lhe virá.

34 D evoured us, crushed us, hath Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, He hath set us an empty vessel, He hath swallowed us as a dragon, He hath filled his belly with my dainties, He hath driven us away.

Nabucodonozor, rei de Babilônia, devorou-me, esmagou-me, fez de mim um vaso vazio, qual monstro tragou-me, encheu o seu ventre do que eu tinha de delicioso; lançou-me fora.

35 M y wrong, and my flesh on Babylon, Say doth the inhabitant of Zion, And my blood on the inhabitants of Chaldea, Say doth Jerusalem.

A violência que se me fez a mim e ã minha carne venha sobre Babilônia, diga a moradora de Sião. O meu sangue caia sobre os moradores de Caldéia, diga Jerusalém.

36 T herefore, thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am pleading thy cause, And I have avenged thy vengeance, And dried up its sea, and made its fountains dry.

Pelo que assim diz o Senhor: Eis que defenderei a tua causa, e te vingarei; e secarei o seu mar, e farei que se esgote a sua fonte:

37 A nd Babylon hath been for heaps, A habitation of dragons, An astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

E Babilônia se tornará em montões, morada de chacais, objeto de espanto e assobio, sem habitante.

38 T ogether as young lions they roar, They have shaken themselves as lions' whelps.

Juntos rugirão como leões novos, bramarão como cachorros de leões.

39 I n their heat I make their banquets, And I have caused them to drink, so that they exult, And have slept a sleep age-during, And awake not -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

Estando eles excitados, preparar-lhes-ei um banquete, e os embriagarei, para que se regozijem, e durmam um perpétuo sono, e não despertem, diz o Senhor.

40 I cause them to go down as lambs to slaughter, As rams with he-goats.

Fá-los-ei descer como cordeiros ao matadouro, como carneiros e bodes.

41 H ow hath Sheshach been captured, Yea, caught is the praise of the whole earth, How hath Babylon been for an astonishment among nations.

Como foi tomada Sesaque, e apanhada de surpresa a glória de toda a terra! como se tornou Babilônia um espetáculo horrendo entre as nações!

42 C ome up against Babylon hath the sea, With a multitude of its billows it hath been covered.

O mar subiu sobre Babilônia; coberta está com a multidão das suas ondas.

43 I ts cities have been for a desolation, A dry land, and a wilderness, A land -- none doth dwell in them, Nor pass over into them doth a son of man.

Tornaram-se as suas cidades em ruínas, terra seca e deserta, terra em que ninguém habita, nem passa por ela filho de homem.

44 A nd I have seen after Bel in Babylon, And I have brought forth that which he swallowed -- from his mouth, And flow no more unto him do nations, Also the wall of Babylon hath fallen.

E castigarei a Bel em Babilônia, e tirarei da sua boca o que ele tragou; e nunca mais concorrerão a ele as nações; o muro de Babilônia está caído.

45 G o forth from its midst, O My people, And deliver ye, each his soul, Because of the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah,

Saí do meio dela, ó povo meu, e salve cada um a sua vida do ardor da ira do Senhor.

46 A nd lest your heart be tender, And ye be afraid of the report that is heard in the land, And come in a year hath the report, And after it in a year the report, And violence in the land, ruler against ruler;

Não desfaleça o vosso coração, nem temais pelo rumor que se ouvir na terra; pois virá num ano um rumor, e depois noutro ano outro rumor; e haverá violência na terra, dominador contra dominador.

47 T herefore, lo, days are coming, And I have seen after the graven images of Babylon. And all its land is ashamed, And all its pierced ones do fall in its midst.

Portanto eis que vêm os dias em que executarei juízo sobre as imagens esculpidas de Babilônia; e toda a sua terra ficará envergonhada; e todos os seus traspassados cairão no meio dela.

48 A nd cried aloud against Babylon Have heavens and earth, and all that in them, For, from the north come to it do the spoilers, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Então o céu e a terra, com tudo quanto neles há, jubilarão sobre Babilônia; pois do norte lhe virão os destruidores, diz o Senhor.

49 E ven Babylon to fall, ye pierced of Israel, Even they of Babylon have fallen, Ye pierced of all the earth.

Babilônia há de cair pelos mortos de Israel, assim como por Babilônia têm caído os mortos de toda a terra.

50 Y e escaped of the sword, go on, stand not, Remember ye from afar Jehovah, And let Jerusalem come up on your heart.

Vós, que escapastes da espada, ide-vos, não pareis; desde terras longínquas lembrai-vos do Senhor, e suba Jerusalém ã vossa mente.

51 W e have been ashamed, for we heard reproach, Covered hath shame our faces, For come in have strangers, against the sanctuaries of the house of Jehovah.

Envergonhados estamos, porque ouvimos opróbrio; a confusão nos cobriu o rosto; pois entraram estrangeiros nos santuários da casa do Senhor.

52 T herefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And I have seen after its graven images, And in all its land groan doth the wounded.

Portanto, eis que vêm os dias, diz o Senhor, em que executarei juízo sobre as suas imagens esculpidas; e em toda a sua terra gemerão os feridos.

53 B ecause Babylon goeth up to the heavens, And because it fenceth the high place of its strength, From Me come into it do spoilers, An affirmation of Jehovah.

Ainda que Babilônia subisse ao céu, e ainda que fortificasse a altura da sua fortaleza, contudo de mim viriam destruidores sobre ela, diz o Senhor.

54 A voice of a cry from Babylon, And of great destruction from the land of the Chaldean.

Eis um clamor de Babilônia! de grande destruição da terra dos caldeus!

55 F or Jehovah is spoiling Babylon, And hath destroyed out of it a great voice, And sounded have its billows as many waters, Given forth a noise hath their voice.

Pois o Senhor está despojando a Babilônia, e emudecendo a sua poderosa voz. Bramam as ondas do inimigo como muitas águas; ouve-se o arruído da sua voz.

56 F or come in against it -- against Babylon -- hath a spoiler, And captured have been its mighty ones, Broken have been their bows, For the God of recompences -- Jehovah -- doth certainly repay.

Porque o destruidor veio sobre ela, sobre Babilônia, e os seus valentes estão presos; já estão despedaçados os seus arcos; pois o Senhor é Deus das recompensas, ele certamente retribuirá.

57 A nd I have caused its princes to drink, And its wise men, its governors, And its prefects, and its mighty ones, And they have slept a sleep age-during, And they awake not -- an affirmation of the king, Jehovah of Hosts His name.

Embriagarei os seus príncipes e os seus sábios, os seus governadores, os seus magistrados, e os seus valentes; e dormirão um sono perpétuo, e jamais acordarão, diz o Rei, cujo nome é o Senhor dos exércitos.

58 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts, the wall of Babylon -- The broad one -- is utterly made bare, And her high gates with fire are burnt, And peoples labour in vain, And nations in fire, and have been weary!

Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: O largo muro de Babilônia será de todo derribado, e as suas portas altas serão abrasadas pelo fogo; e trabalharão os povos em vão, e as nações se cansarão só para o fogo.

59 T he word that Jeremiah the prophet hath commanded Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Maaseiah, in his going with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign -- and Seraiah a quiet prince;

A palavra que Jeremias, o profeta, mandou a Seraías, filho de Nerias, filho de Maséias, quando ia com Zedequias, rei de Judá, a Babilônia, no quarto ano do seu reinado. Ora, Seraías era o camareiro-mor.

60 a nd Jeremiah writeth all the evil that cometh unto Babylon on one book -- all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

Escreveu, pois, Jeremias num livro todo o mal que havia de vir sobre Babilônia, a saber, todas estas palavras que estão escritas acerca de Babilônia.

61 A nd Jeremiah saith unto Seraiah, `When thou dost enter Babylon, then thou hast seen, and hast read all these words,

E disse Jeremias a Seraías: Quando chegares a Babilônia, vê que leias todas estas palavras;

62 a nd hast said: Jehovah, Thou, Thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that there is none dwelling in it, from man even unto cattle, for it is a desolation age-during.

e dirás: Tu, Senhor, falaste a respeito deste lugar, que o havias de desarraigar, até não ficar nele morador algum, nem homem nem animal, mas que se tornaria em perpétua desolação.

63 A nd it hath come to pass, when thou dost finish reading this book, thou dost bind to it a stone, and hast cast it into the midst of Phrat,

E acabando tu de ler este livro, atar-lhe-ás uma pedra e o lançarás no meio do Eufrates;

64 a nd said, Thus sink doth Babylon, and it doth not arise, because of the evil that I am bringing in against it, and they have been weary.' Hitherto words of Jeremiah.

e dirás: Assim será submergida Babilônia, e não se levantará, por causa do mal que vou trazer sobre ela; e eles se cansarão.
