1 ` Hear, Israel, thou art passing over to-day the Jordan, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself; cities great and fenced in the heavens;

Ouve, ó Israel: hoje tu vais passar o Jordão para entrares para desapossares nações maiores e mais fortes do que tu, cidades grandes e muradas até o céu;

2 a people great and tall, sons of Anakim, whom thou -- thou hast known, (and thou -- thou hast heard: Who doth station himself before sons of Anak?)

um povo grande e alto, filhos dos anaquins, que tu conhecestes, e dos quais tens ouvido dizer: Quem poderá resistir aos filhos de Anaque?

3 a nd thou hast known to-day, that Jehovah thy God He who is passing over before thee -- a fire consuming; He doth destroy them, and He doth humble them before thee, and thou hast dispossessed them, and destroyed them hastily, as Jehovah hath spoken to thee.

Sabe, pois, hoje que o Senhor teu Deus é o que passa adiante de ti como um fogo consumidor; ele os destruirá, e os subjugará diante de ti; e tu os lançarás fora, e cedo os desfarás, como o Senhor te prometeu.

4 ` Thou dost not speak in thy heart (in Jehovah thy God's driving them away from before thee), saying, For my righteousness hath Jehovah brought me in to possess this land, seeing for the wickedness of these nations is Jehovah dispossessing them from thy presence;

Depois que o Senhor teu Deus os tiver lançado fora de diante de ti, não digas no teu coração: por causa da minha justiça é que o Senhor me introduziu nesta terra para a possuir. Porque pela iniqüidade destas nações é que o Senhor as lança fora de diante de ti.

5 n ot for thy righteousness, and for the uprightness of thy heart, art thou going in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations is Jehovah thy God dispossessing them from before thee; and in order to establish the word which Jehovah hath sworn to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob;

Não é por causa da tua justiça, nem pela retidão do teu coração que entras a possuir a sua terra, mas pela iniqüidade destas nações o Senhor teu Deus as lança fora de diante de ti, e para confirmar a palavra que o Senhor teu Deus jurou a teus pais, Abraão, Isaque e Jacó.

6 a nd thou hast known, that not for thy righteousness is Jehovah thy God giving to thee this good land to possess it, for a people stiff of neck thou.

Sabe, pois, que não é por causa da tua justiça que o Senhor teu Deus te dá esta boa terra para a possuíres, pois tu és povo de dura cerviz.

7 ` Remember -- do not forget -- that which thou hast made Jehovah thy God wroth in the wilderness; even from the day that thou hast come out of the land of Egypt till your coming in unto this place rebels ye have been with Jehovah;

Lembra-te, e não te esqueças, de como provocaste ã ira o Senhor teu Deus no deserto; desde o dia em que saíste da terra do Egito, até que chegaste a este lugar, foste rebelde contra o Senhor;

8 e ven in Horeb ye have made Jehovah wroth, and Jehovah sheweth Himself angry against you -- to destroy you.

também em Horebe provocastes ã ira o Senhor, e o Senhor se irou contra vós para vos destruir.

9 ` In my going up into the mount to receive the tables of stone (tables of the covenant which Jehovah hath made with you), and I abide in the mount forty days and forty nights; bread I have not eaten, and water I have not drunk;

Quando subi ao monte a receber as tábuas de pedra, as tábuas do pacto que o Senhor fizera convosco, fiquei no monte quarenta dias e quarenta noites; não comi pão, nem bebi água.

10 a nd Jehovah giveth unto me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God, and on them according to all the words which Jehovah hath spoken with you in the mount, out of the midst of the fire, in the day of the assembly.

E o Senhor me deu as duas tábuas de pedra, escritas com o dedo de Deus; e nelas estavam escritas todas aquelas palavras que o Senhor tinha falado convosco no monte, do meio do fogo, no dia da assembléia.

11 ` And it cometh to pass, at the end of forty days and forty nights, Jehovah hath given unto me the two tables of stone -- tables of the covenant,

Sucedeu, pois, que ao fim dos quarenta dias e quarenta naites, o Senhor me deu as duas tábuas de pedra, as tábuas do pacto.

12 a nd Jehovah saith unto me, Rise, go down, hasten from this, for thy people hath done corruptly, whom thou hast brought out of Egypt; they have turned aside hastily out of the way which I have commanded them -- they have made to themselves a molten thing!

E o Senhor me disse: Levanta-te, desce logo daqui, porque o teu povo, que tiraste do Egito, já se corrompeu; cedo se desviaram do caminho que eu lhes ordenei; fizeram para si uma imagem de fundição.

13 ` And Jehovah speaketh unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and lo, a people stiff of neck it;

Disse-me ainda o Senhor: Atentei para este povo, e eis que ele é povo de dura cerviz;

14 d esist from Me, and I destroy them, and blot out their name from under the heavens, and I make thee become a nation more mighty and numerous than it.

deixa-me que o destrua, e apague o seu nome de debaixo do céu; e farei de ti nação mais poderosa e mais numerosa do que esta.

15 ` And I turn, and come down from the mount, and the mount is burning with fire, and the two tables of the covenant on my two hands,

Então me virei, e desci do monte, o qual ardia em fogo; e as duas tábuas do pacto estavam nas minhas duas mãos.

16 a nd I see, and lo, ye have sinned against Jehovah your God; ye have made to yourselves a molten calf; ye have turned aside hastily out of the way which Jehovah hath commanded you.

Olhei, e eis que havíeis pecado contra o Senhor vosso Deus; tínheis feito para vós um bezerro de fundição; depressa vos tínheis desviado do caminho que o Senhor vos ordenara.

17 ` And I lay hold on the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and break them before your eyes,

Peguei então das duas tábuas e, arrojando-as das minhas mãos, quebrei-as diante dos vossos olhos.

18 a nd I throw myself before Jehovah, as at first, forty days and forty nights; bread I have not eaten, and water I have not drunk, because of all your sins which ye have sinned, by doing the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to make Him angry.

Prostrei-me perante o Senhor, como antes, quarenta dias e quarenta noites; não comi pão, nem bebi água, por causa de todo o vosso pecado que havíeis cometido, fazendo o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, para o provocar a ira.

19 ` For I have been afraid because of the anger and the fury with which Jehovah hath been wroth against you, to destroy you; and Jehovah doth hearken unto me also at this time.

Porque temi por causa da ira e do furor com que o Senhor estava irado contra vós para vos destruir; porém ainda essa vez o Senhor me ouviu.

20 ` And with Aaron hath Jehovah shewed himself very angry, to destroy him, and I pray also for Aaron at that time;

O Senhor se irou muito contra Arão para o destruir; mas também orei a favor de Arão ao mesmo tempo.

21 a nd your sin, which ye have made -- the calf -- I have taken, and I burn it with fire, and beat it, grinding well till that it small as dust, and I cast its dust unto the brook which is going down out of the mount.

Então eu tomei o vosso pecado, o bezerro que tínheis feito, e o queimei a fogo e o pisei, moendo-o bem, até que se desfez em pó; e o seu pó lancei no ribeiro que descia do monte.

22 ` And in Taberah, and in Massah, and in Kibroth-Hattaavah, ye have been making Jehovah wroth:

Igualmente em Tabera, e em Massá, e em Quibrote-Hataavá provocastes ã ira o Senhor.

23 a nd in Jehovah's sending you from Kadesh-Barnea, saying, Go up, and possess the land which I have given to you, then ye provoke the mouth of Jehovah your God, and have not given credence to Him, nor hearkened to His voice;

Quando também o Senhor vos enviou de Cades-Barnéia, dizendo: Subi, e possuí a terra que vos dei; vós vos rebelastes contra o mandado do Senhor vosso Deus, e não o crestes, e não obedecestes ã sua voz.

24 r ebels ye have been with Jehovah from the day of my knowing you.

Tendes sido rebeldes contra o Senhor desde o dia em que vos conheci.

25 ` And I throw myself before Jehovah, the forty days and the forty nights, as I had thrown myself, for Jehovah hath said -- to destroy you;

Assim me prostrei perante o Senhor; quarenta dias e quarenta noites estive prostrado, porquanto o Senhor ameaçara destruir-vos.

26 a nd I pray unto Jehovah, and say, Lord Jehovah, destroy not Thy people, and Thine inheritance, whom Thou hast ransomed in Thy greatness; whom Thou hast brought out of Egypt with a strong hand;

Orei ao Senhor, dizendo: ç Senhor Jeová, não destruas o teu povo, a tua herança, que resgataste com a tua grandeza, que tiraste do Egito com mão forte.

27 b e mindful of Thy servants, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, turn not unto the stiffness of this people, and unto its wickedness, and unto its sin;

Lembra-te dos teus servos, Abraão, Isaque e Jacó; não atentes para a dureza deste povo, nem para a sua iniqüidade, nem para o seu pecado;

28 l est the land say from which Thou hast brought us out, Because of Jehovah's want of ability to bring them in unto the land of which He hath spoken to them, and because of His hating them, He brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness;

para que o povo da terra de onde nos tiraste não diga: Porquanto o Senhor não pôde introduzi-los na terra que lhes prometera, passou a odiá-los, e os tirou para os matar no deserto.

29 a nd they Thy people, and Thine inheritance, whom Thou hast brought out by Thy great power, and by Thy stretched-out arm!

Todavia são eles o teu povo, a sua herança, que tiraste com a sua grande força e com o teu braço estendido.
