1 W isdom hath builded her house, She hath hewn out her pillars -- seven.

A sabedoria já edificou a sua casa, já lavrou as suas sete colunas;

2 S he hath slaughtered her slaughter, She hath mingled her wine, Yea, she hath arranged her table.

já imolou as suas vítimas, misturou o seu vinho, e preparou a sua mesa.

3 S he hath sent forth her damsels, She crieth on the tops of the high places of the city:

Já enviou as suas criadas a clamar sobre as alturas da cidade, dizendo:

4 ` Who simple? let him turn aside hither.' Whoso lacketh heart: she hath said to him,

Quem é simples, volte-se para cá. Aos faltos de entendimento diz:

5 ` Come, eat of my bread, And drink of the wine I have mingled.

Vinde, comei do meu pão, e bebei do vinho que tenho misturado.

6 F orsake ye, the simple, and live, And be happy in the way of understanding.

Deixai a insensatez, e vivei; e andai pelo caminho do entendimento.

7 T he instructor of a scorner Is receiving for it -- shame, And a reprover of the wicked -- his blemish.

O que repreende ao escarnecedor, traz afronta sobre si; e o que censura ao ímpio, recebe a sua mancha.

8 R eprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee, Give reproof to the wise, and he loveth thee.

Não repreendas ao escarnecedor, para que não te odeie; repreende ao sábio, e amar-te-á.

9 G ive to the wise, and he is wiser still, Make known to the righteous, And he increaseth learning.

Instrui ao sábio, e ele se fará mais, sábio; ensina ao justo, e ele crescerá em entendimento.

10 T he commencement of wisdom the fear of Jehovah, And a knowledge of the Holy Ones understanding.

O temor do Senhor é o princípio sabedoria; e o conhecimento do Santo é o entendimento.

11 F or by me do thy days multiply, And added to thee are years of life.

Porque por mim se multiplicam os teus dias, e anos de vida se te acrescentarão.

12 I f thou hast been wise, thou hast been wise for thyself, And thou hast scorned -- thyself bearest.

Se fores sábio, para ti mesmo o serás; e, se fores escarnecedor, tu só o suportarás.

13 A foolish woman noisy, Simple, and hath not known what.

A mulher tola é alvoroçadora; é insensata, e não conhece o pudor.

14 A nd she hath sat at the opening of her house, On a throne -- the high places of the city,

Senta-se ã porta da sua casa ou numa cadeira, nas alturas da cidade,

15 T o call to those passing by the way, Who are going straight their paths.

chamando aos que passam e seguem direitos o seu caminho:

16 ` Who simple? let him turn aside hither.' And whoso lacketh heart -- she said to him,

Quem é simples, volte-se para cá! E aos faltos de entendimento diz:

17 ` Stolen waters are sweet, And hidden bread is pleasant.'

As águas roubadas são doces, e o pão comido

18 A nd he hath not known that Rephaim there, In deep places of Sheol her invited ones!

Mas ele não sabe que ali estão os mortos; que os seus convidados estão nas profundezas do Seol.
