1 A nd Jehovah saith unto me, `Take to thee a great tablet, and write upon it with a graving tool of man, To haste spoil, enjoy prey.'

Disse-me também o Senhor: Toma uma tábua grande e escreve nela em caracteres legíveis: Maer-Salal-Has-Baz;

2 A nd I cause faithful witnesses to testify to me, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

tomei pois, comigo fiéis testemunhas, a Urias sacerdote, e a Zacarias, filho de Jeberequias.

3 A nd I draw near unto the prophetess, and she conceiveth, and beareth a son; and Jehovah saith unto me, `Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

E fui ter com a profetisa; e ela concebeu, e deu ã luz um filho; e o Senhor me disse: Põe-lhe o nome de Maer-Salal-Has-Baz.

4 f or before the youth doth know to cry, My father, and My mother, one taketh away the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria, before the king of Asshur.'

Pois antes que o menino saiba dizer meu pai ou minha mãe, se levarão as riquezas de Damasco, e os despojos de Samária, diante do rei da Assíria.

5 A nd Jehovah addeth to speak unto me again, saying:

E continuou o Senhor a falar ainda comigo, dizendo:

6 ` Because that this people hath refused The waters of Shiloah that go softly, And is rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

Porquanto este povo rejeitou as águas de Siloa, que correm brandamente, e se alegrou com Rezim e com o filho de Remalias,

7 T herefore, lo, the Lord is bringing up on them, The waters of the river, the mighty and the great, (The king of Asshur, and all his glory,) And it hath gone up over all its streams, And hath gone on over all its banks.

eis que o Senhor fará vir sobre eles as águas do Rio, fortes e impetuosas, isto é, o rei da Assíria, com toda a sua glória; e subirá sobre todos os seus leitos, e transbordará por todas as suas ribanceiras;

8 A nd it hath passed on into Judah, It hath overflown and passed over, Unto the neck it cometh, And the stretching out of its wings Hath been the fulness of the breadth of thy land, O Emmanu-El!

e passará a Judá, inundando-o, e irá passando por ele e chegará até o pescoço; e a extensão de suas asas encherá a largura da tua terra, ó Emanuel.

9 B e friends, O nations, and be broken, And give ear, all ye far off ones of earth, Gird yourselves, and be broken, Gird yourselves, and be broken.

Exasperai-vos, ó povos, e sereis quebrantados; dai ouvidos, todos os que sois de terras longínquas; cingi-vos e sereis feitos em pedaços, cingi-vos e sereis feitos em pedaços;

10 T ake counsel, and it is broken, Speak a word, and it doth not stand, Because of Emmanu-El!'

Tomai juntamente conselho, e ele será frustrado; dizei uma palavra, e ela não subsistirá; porque Deus é conosco.

11 F or thus hath Jehovah spoken unto me with strength of hand, and instructeth me against walking in the way of this people, saying,

Pois assim o Senhor me falou, com sua forte mão deitada em mim, e me admoestou a que não andasse pelo caminho deste povo, dizendo:

12 ` Ye do not say, A confederacy, To all to whom this people saith, A confederacy, And its fear ye do not fear, Nor declare fearful.

Não chameis conspiração a tudo quanto este povo chama conspiração; e não temais aquilo que ele teme, nem por isso vos assombreis.

13 J ehovah of Hosts -- Him ye do sanctify, And He your Fear, and He your Dread,

Ao Senhor dos exércitos, a ele santificai; e seja ele o vosso temor e seja ele o vosso assombro.

14 A nd He hath been for a sanctuary, And for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of falling, To the two houses of Israel, For a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Então ele vos será por santuário; mas servirá de pedra de tropeço, e de rocha de escândalo,

15 A nd many among them have stumbled and fallen, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

E muitos dentre eles tropeçarão, e cairão, e serão quebrantados, e enlaçados, e presos.

16 B ind up the testimony, Seal the law among My disciples.

Ata o testemunho, sela a lei entre os meus discípulos.

17 A nd I have waited for Jehovah, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob, And I have looked for Him.

Esperarei no Senhor, que esconde o seu rosto da casa de Jacó, e a ele aguardarei.

18 L o, I, and the children whom Jehovah hath given to me, for signs and for wonders in Israel, From Jehovah of Hosts, who is dwelling in Mount Zion.

Eis-me aqui, com os filhos que me deu o Senhor; são como sinais e portentos em Israel da parte do Senhor dos exércitos, que habita no monte Sião.

19 A nd when they say unto you, `Seek unto those having familiar spirits, And unto wizards, who chatter and mutter, Doth not a people seek unto its God? -- For the living unto the dead!

Quando vos disserem: Consultai os que têm espíritos familiares e os feiticeiros, que chilreiam e murmuram, respondei: Acaso não consultará um povo a seu Deus? acaso a favor dos vivos consultará os mortos?

20 T o the law and to the testimony! If not, let them say after this manner, `That there is no dawn to it.'

A Lei e ao Testemunho! se eles não falarem segundo esta palavra, nunca lhes raiará a alva.

21 - - And it hath passed over into it, hardened and hungry, And it hath come to pass, That it is hungry, and hath been wroth, And made light of its king, and of its God, And hath looked upwards.

E passarão pela terra duramente oprimidos e famintos; e, tendo fome, se agastarão, e amaldiçoarão o seu rei e o seu Deus, olhando para o céu em cima;

22 A nd unto the land it looketh attentively, And lo, adversity and darkness! -- Dimness, distress, and thick darkness is driven away, But not the dimness for which she is in distress!

e para a terra em baixo, e eis aí angústia e escuridão, tristeza da aflição; e para as trevas serão empurrados.
