1 A nd prophesied have the prophets, (Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo) unto the Jews who in Judah and in Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel -- unto them.

Ora, os profetas Ageu e Zacarias, filho de Ido, profetizaram aos judeus que estavam em Judá e em Jerusalém; em nome do Deus de Israel lhes profetizaram.

2 T hen have Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, risen, and begun to build the house of God, that in Jerusalem, and with them are the prophets of God supporting them.

Então se levantaram Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, e Jesuá, filho de Jozadaque, e começaram a edificar a casa de Deus, que está em Jerusalém; e com eles estavam os profetas de Deus, que os ajudavam.

3 A t that time come to them hath Tatnai, governor beyond the river, and Shethar-Boznai, and their companions, and thus they are saying to them, `Who hath made for you a decree this house to build, and this wall to finish?'

Naquele tempo vieram ter com eles Tatenai, o governador da província a oeste do Rio, e Setar-Bozenai, e os seus companheiros, e assim lhes perguntaram: Quem vos deu ordem para edificar esta casa, e completar este muro?

4 T hen thus we have said to them, `What the names of the men who are building this building?'

Ainda lhes perguntaram: Quais são os nomes dos homens que constroem este edifício?

5 A nd the eye of their God hath been upon the elders of the Jews, and they have not caused them to cease till the matter goeth to Darius, and then they send back a letter concerning this thing.

Os olhos do seu Deus, porém, estavam sobre os anciãos dos judeus, de modo que eles não os impediram, até que o negócio se comunicasse a Dario, e então chegasse resposta por carta sobre isso.

6 T he copy of a letter that Tatnai, governor beyond the river, hath sent, and Shethar-Boznai and his companions, the Apharsachites who beyond the river, unto Darius the king.

A cópia da carta que Tatenai, o governador da província a oeste do Rio, e Setar-Bozenai, e os seus companheiros, os governadores, que estavam deste lado do Rio, enviaram ao rei Dario;

7 A letter they have sent unto him, and thus is it written in it:

enviaram-lhe um relatório, no qual estava escrito: Ao rei Dario toda a paz.

8 ` To Darius the king, all peace! be it known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the great house of God, and it is built rolled stones, and wood is placed in the walls, and this work is done speedily, and prospering in their hand.

Saiba o rei que nós fomos ã província de Judá, ã casa do grande Deus, a qual se edifica com grandes pedras, e já a madeira está sendo posta nas paredes, e esta obra vai-se fazendo com diligência, e se adianta em suas mãos.

9 T hen we have asked of these elders, thus we have said to them, Who hath made for you a decree this house to build, and this wall to finish?

Então perguntamos

10 A nd also their names we have asked of them, to let thee know, that we might write the names of the men who at their head.

Além disso lhes perguntamos pelos seus nomes, para tos declararmos, isto é, para te escrevermos os nomes dos homens que entre eles são os chefes.

11 ` And thus they have returned us word, saying, We servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are building the house that was built many years before this, that a great king of Israel built and finished:

E esta é a resposta que nos deram: Nós somos servos do Deus do céu e da terra, e reedificamos a casa que há muitos anos foi edificada, a qual um grande rei de Israel edificou e acabou.

12 b ut after that our fathers made the God of heaven angry, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon the Chaldean, and this house he destroyed, and the people he removed to Babylon;

Mas depois que nossos pais provocaram ã ira o Deus do céu, ele os entregou na mão de Nabucodonozor, o caldeu, rei de Babilônia, o qual destruiu esta casa, e transportou o povo para Babilônia.

13 b ut in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God,

Porém, no primeiro ano de Ciro, rei de Babilônia, o rei Ciro baixou decreto para que esta casa de Deus fosse reedificada.

14 a nd also, the vessels of the house of God, of gold and silver, that Nebuchadnezzar had taken forth out of the temple that in Jerusalem, and brought them to the temple of Babylon, them hath Cyrus the king brought forth out of the temple of Babylon, and they have been given to, Sheshbazzar his name, whom he made governor,

E até os utensílios de ouro e de prata da casa de Deus, que Nabucodonozor tinha tomado do templo que estava em Jerusalém e levado para o templo de Babilônia, o rei Siro os tirou do templo de Babilônia, e eles foram entregues a um homem cujo nome era Sesbazar, a quem ele tinha constituído governador;

15 a nd said to him, These vessels lift up, go, put them down in the temple that in Jerusalem, and the house of God is builded on its place.

e disse-lhe: Toma estes utensílios, vai, e leva-os para o templo que está em Jerusalém, e reedifique-se a casa de Deus no seu lugar.

16 T hen hath this Sheshbazzar come -- he hath laid the foundations of the house of God that in Jerusalem, and from thence even till now it hath been building, and is not finished.

Então veio o dito Sesbazar, e lançou os fundamentos da casa de Deus, que está em Jerusalém; de então para cá ela vem sendo edificada, não estando ainda concluída.

17 ` And now, if to the king it be good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king, that there in Babylon, whether it be that of Cyrus the king there was made a decree to build this house of God in Jerusalem, and the will of the king concerning this thing he doth send unto us.'

Agora, pois, se parece bem ao rei, busque-se nos arquivos reais, ali em Babilônia, para ver se é verdade haver um decreto do rei Ciro para se reedificar esta casa de Deus em Jerusalém, e sobre isto nos faça o rei saber a sua vontade.
