1 A nd prophesied have the prophets, (Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah son of Iddo) unto the Jews who in Judah and in Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel -- unto them.

Cuando los profetas Hageo y Zacarías, hijo de Iddo, profetizaron a los Judíos que estaban en Judá y en Jerusalén, en el nombre del Dios de Israel que estaba sobre ellos,

2 T hen have Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua son of Jozadak, risen, and begun to build the house of God, that in Jerusalem, and with them are the prophets of God supporting them.

Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, se levantaron entonces y comenzaron a reedificar la casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y los profetas de Dios estaban con ellos apoyándolos.

3 A t that time come to them hath Tatnai, governor beyond the river, and Shethar-Boznai, and their companions, and thus they are saying to them, `Who hath made for you a decree this house to build, and this wall to finish?'

En aquel tiempo Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del Río (Eufrates), y Setar Boznai y sus compañeros vinieron a ellos y les hablaron así: “¿Quién les dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio ?”

4 T hen thus we have said to them, `What the names of the men who are building this building?'

También les dijeron así: “¿Cuáles son los nombres de los hombres que están reedificando este edificio?”

5 A nd the eye of their God hath been upon the elders of the Jews, and they have not caused them to cease till the matter goeth to Darius, and then they send back a letter concerning this thing.

Pero el ojo de su Dios velaba sobre los ancianos de los Judíos, y no les detuvieron la obra hasta que un informe llegara a Darío, y volviera una respuesta escrita tocante al asunto.

6 T he copy of a letter that Tatnai, governor beyond the river, hath sent, and Shethar-Boznai and his companions, the Apharsachites who beyond the river, unto Darius the king.

Esta es la copia de la carta que Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del río, y Setar Boznai y sus compañeros los oficiales que estaban al otro lado del río, enviaron al rey Darío.

7 A letter they have sent unto him, and thus is it written in it:

Le enviaron un informe que estaba escrito así: “Al rey Darío, toda paz.

8 ` To Darius the king, all peace! be it known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the great house of God, and it is built rolled stones, and wood is placed in the walls, and this work is done speedily, and prospering in their hand.

Sepa el rey que hemos ido a la provincia de Judá, a la casa del gran Dios, que está siendo edificada con piedras enormes y vigas empotradas en las paredes; y esta obra se adelanta con gran esmero y prospera en sus manos.

9 T hen we have asked of these elders, thus we have said to them, Who hath made for you a decree this house to build, and this wall to finish?

Entonces preguntamos a aquellos ancianos, y les dijimos así: ‘¿Quién les dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio?’

10 A nd also their names we have asked of them, to let thee know, that we might write the names of the men who at their head.

También les preguntamos sus nombres para informarle, y para dar por escrito los nombres de los hombres que eran sus jefes.

11 ` And thus they have returned us word, saying, We servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are building the house that was built many years before this, that a great king of Israel built and finished:

Y así nos respondieron: ‘Somos los siervos del Dios del cielo y de la tierra, y estamos reedificando el templo que fue construido hace muchos años, el cual un gran rey de Israel edificó y terminó.

12 b ut after that our fathers made the God of heaven angry, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon the Chaldean, and this house he destroyed, and the people he removed to Babylon;

Pero como nuestros padres provocaron a ira al Dios del cielo, El los entregó en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, el Caldeo, quien destruyó este templo, y llevó cautivo al pueblo a Babilonia.

13 b ut in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God,

Sin embargo, en el año primero de Ciro, rey de Babilonia, el rey Ciro proclamó un decreto de que se reedificara esta casa de Dios.

14 a nd also, the vessels of the house of God, of gold and silver, that Nebuchadnezzar had taken forth out of the temple that in Jerusalem, and brought them to the temple of Babylon, them hath Cyrus the king brought forth out of the temple of Babylon, and they have been given to, Sheshbazzar his name, whom he made governor,

También los utensilios de oro y de plata de la casa de Dios, que Nabucodonosor había sacado del templo que estaba en Jerusalén y llevado al templo de Babilonia, los sacó el rey Ciro del templo de Babilonia, y fueron entregados a Sesbasar, a quien había puesto por gobernador.

15 a nd said to him, These vessels lift up, go, put them down in the temple that in Jerusalem, and the house of God is builded on its place.

Y le dijo: “Toma estos utensilios, ve y colócalos en el templo que está en Jerusalén, y sea la casa de Dios reedificada en su lugar.”

16 T hen hath this Sheshbazzar come -- he hath laid the foundations of the house of God that in Jerusalem, and from thence even till now it hath been building, and is not finished.

Entonces aquel Sesbasar vino y puso los cimientos de la casa de Dios que está en Jerusalén; y desde entonces hasta ahora se sigue construyendo, pero aún no está terminada.’

17 ` And now, if to the king it be good, let search be made in the treasure-house of the king, that there in Babylon, whether it be that of Cyrus the king there was made a decree to build this house of God in Jerusalem, and the will of the king concerning this thing he doth send unto us.'

“Ahora, si al rey le parece bien, que se busque en la casa del tesoro del rey que está allí en Babilonia, a ver si es que fue proclamado un decreto de parte del rey Ciro para reedificar esta casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y que se nos envíe la decisión del rey en cuanto a este asunto.”
