1 A nd the Canaanite -- king Arad -- dwelling in the south, heareth that Israel hath come the way of the Atharim, and he fighteth against Israel, and taketh of them captive.

Cuando el Cananeo, el rey de Arad, que habitaba en el Neguev (región del sur), oyó que Israel subía por el camino de Atarim, peleó contra Israel y le tomó algunos prisioneros.

2 A nd Israel voweth a vow to Jehovah, and saith, `If Thou dost certainly give this people into my hand, then I have devoted their cities;'

Entonces Israel hizo un voto al Señor y dijo: “Si en verdad entregas a este pueblo en mis manos, yo destruiré por completo sus ciudades.”

3 a nd Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Israel, and giveth up the Canaanite, and he devoteth them and their cities, and calleth the name of the place Hormah.

Y oyó el Señor la voz de Israel y les entregó a los Cananeos; e Israel los destruyó por completo, a ellos y a sus ciudades. Por eso se llamó a aquél lugar Horma (Destrucción). La Serpiente de Bronce

4 A nd they journey from mount Hor, the way of the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom, and the soul of the people is short in the way,

Partieron del Monte Hor, por el camino del Mar Rojo, para rodear la tierra de Edom, y el pueblo se impacientó por causa del viaje.

5 a nd the people speak against God, and against Moses, `Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to die in a wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water, and our soul hath been weary of this light bread.'

Y el pueblo habló contra Dios y Moisés: “¿Por qué nos han sacado de Egipto para morir en el desierto ? Pues no hay comida (pan) ni agua, y detestamos este alimento tan miserable.”

6 A nd Jehovah sendeth among the people the burning serpents, and they bite the people, and much people of Israel die;

Y el Señor envió serpientes abrasadoras entre el pueblo, y mordieron al pueblo, y mucha gente de Israel murió.

7 a nd the people come in unto Moses and say, `We have sinned, for we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, and He doth turn aside from us the serpent;' and Moses prayeth in behalf of the people.

Entonces el pueblo vino a Moisés y dijo: “Hemos pecado, porque hemos hablado contra el Señor y contra ti; intercede con el Señor para que quite las serpientes de entre nosotros.” Y Moisés intercedió por el pueblo.

8 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Make for thee a burning, and set it on an ensign; and it hath been, every one who is bitten and hath seen it -- he hath lived.

El Señor dijo a Moisés: “Hazte una serpiente abrasadora y ponla sobre un asta; y acontecerá que cuando todo el que sea mordido la mire, vivirá.”

9 A nd Moses maketh a serpent of brass, and setteth it on the ensign, and it hath been, if the serpent hath bitten any man, and he hath looked expectingly unto the serpent of brass -- he hath lived.

Y Moisés hizo una serpiente de bronce y la puso sobre el asta; y sucedía que cuando una serpiente mordía a alguien, y éste miraba a la serpiente de bronce, vivía.

10 A nd the sons of Israel journey, and encamp in Oboth.

Después los Israelitas salieron y acamparon en Obot.

11 A nd they journey from Oboth, and encamp in Ije-Abarim, in the wilderness that on the front of Moab, at the rising of the sun.

Y salieron de Obot y acamparon en Ije Abarim, en el desierto que está frente a Moab, al oriente.

12 F rom thence they have journeyed, and encamp in the valley of Zared.

De allí salieron y acamparon en el Valle de Zered.

13 F rom thence they have journeyed, and encamp beyond Arnon, which in the wilderness which is coming out of the border of the Amorite, for Arnon the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorite;

De allí salieron y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón, que está en el desierto y que sale del territorio de los Amorreos, pues el Arnón es la frontera de Moab, entre Moab y los Amorreos.

14 t herefore it is said in a book, `The wars of Jehovah,' -- `Waheb in Suphah, And the brooks of Arnon;

Por tanto se dice en el Libro de las Guerras del Señor: “Vaheb que está en Sufa Y los arroyos del Arnón,

15 A nd the spring of the brooks, Which turned aside to the dwelling of Ar, And hath leaned to the border of Moab.'

Y la ladera de los arroyos Que llega hasta el sitio de Ar Y descansa en la frontera de Moab.”

16 A nd from thence to Beer; it the well which Jehovah said to Moses, `Gather the people, and I give to them -- water.'

Y de allí continuaron hasta Beer; éste es el pozo donde el Señor le dijo a Moisés: “Reúne al pueblo y les daré agua.”

17 T hen singeth Israel this song, concerning the well -- they have answered to it:

Entonces cantó Israel este cántico: “¡Salta, oh pozo! A él canten.

18 ` A well -- digged it have princes, Prepared it have nobles of the people, With the lawgiver, with their staves.' And from the wilderness to Mattanah,

El pozo que cavaron los jefes, Que los nobles del pueblo hicieron Con el cetro y con sus báculos.” Y desde el desierto fueron a Mataná.

19 a nd from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth,

Y de Mataná a Nahaliel, y de Nahaliel a Bamot,

20 a nd from Bamoth in the valley which in the field of Moab the top of Pisgah, which hath looked on the front of the wilderness.

y de Bamot al valle que está en la tierra de Moab, en la cumbre del Pisga, que da al desierto.

21 A nd Israel sendeth messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorite, saying,

Entonces Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los Amorreos, diciéndole:

22 ` Let me pass through thy land, we do not turn aside into a field, or into a vineyard, we do not drink waters of a well; in the king's way we go, till that we pass over thy border.'

“Déjeme pasar por su tierra. No nos desviaremos, ni por campos ni por viñedos, ni beberemos agua de pozo. Iremos por el camino real hasta que hayamos cruzado sus fronteras.”

23 A nd Sihon hath not suffered Israel to pass through his border, and Sihon gathereth all his people, and cometh out to meet Israel into the wilderness, and cometh in to Jahaz, and fighteth against Israel.

Pero Sehón no permitió a Israel pasar por su territorio. Y reunió Sehón a todo su pueblo y salió al encuentro de Israel en el desierto, y llegó a Jahaza y peleó contra Israel.

24 A nd Israel smiteth him by the mouth of the sword, and possesseth his land from Arnon unto Jabbok -- unto the sons of Ammon; for the border of the sons of Ammon strong.

Pero Israel lo hirió a filo de espada y tomó posesión de su tierra desde el Arnón hasta el Jaboc, hasta la frontera con los Amonitas, porque Jazer era la frontera de los Amonitas.

25 A nd Israel taketh all these cities, and Israel dwelleth in all the cities of the Amorite, in Heshbon, and in all its villages;

Israel tomó todas estas ciudades, y habitó Israel en todas las ciudades de los Amorreos, en Hesbón y en todas sus aldeas.

26 f or Heshbon is a city of Sihon king of the Amorite, and he hath fought against the former king of Moab, and taketh all his land out of his hand, unto Arnon;

Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los Amorreos, quien había peleado contra el rey anterior de Moab y le había quitado de su mano toda su tierra, hasta el Arnón.

27 t herefore those using similes say -- `Enter ye Heshbon, Let the city of Sihon be built and ready,

Por eso dicen los que usan proverbios: “Vengan a Hesbón. Sea edificada. Sea establecida la ciudad de Sehón.

28 F or fire hath gone out from Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon, It hath consumed Ar of Moab, Owners of the high places of Arnon.

Porque fuego salió de Hesbón, Una llama del pueblo de Sehón; Devoró a Ar de Moab, A los señores de las alturas del Arnón.

29 W o to thee, O Moab, Thou hast perished, O people of Chemosh, He hath given his sons who escape -- Also his daughters -- Into captivity, to a king of the Amorite -- Sihon!

¡Ay de ti, Moab! ¡Destruido eres, oh pueblo de Quemos! Ha dado a sus hijos como fugitivos Y a sus hijas a la cautividad, A un rey Amorreo, Sehón.

30 A nd we shoot them, Perished hath Heshbon unto Dibon, And we make desolate unto Nophah, Which unto Medeba.'

Pero nosotros los hemos arrojado; Hesbón está destruido hasta Dibón; Después también asolamos hasta Nofa, La que llega hasta Medeba.”

31 A nd Israel dwelleth in the land of the Amorite,

Así habitó Israel en la tierra de los Amorreos.

32 a nd Moses sendeth to spy out Jaazer, and they capture its villages, and dispossess the Amorite who there,

Moisés envió a reconocer a Jazer, y tomaron sus villas y expulsaron a los Amorreos que vivían allí.

33 a nd turn and go up the way of Bashan, and Og king of Bashan cometh out to meet them, he and all his people, to battle, Edrei.

Después se volvieron y subieron por el camino de Basán; y Og, rey de Basán, salió con todo su pueblo para presentarles batalla en Edrei.

34 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Fear him not, for into thy hand I have given him, and all his people, and his land, and thou hast done to him as thou hast done to Sihon king of the Amorite, who is dwelling in Heshbon.'

Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés: “No le tengas miedo porque lo he entregado en tu mano, y a todo su pueblo y a su tierra. Harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los Amorreos, el que habitaba en Hesbón.”

35 A nd they smite him, and his sons, and all his people, until he hath not left to him a remnant, and they possess his land.

Así que lo mataron a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo, hasta que no le quedó remanente; y tomaron posesión de su tierra.
