1 A nd the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and moveth David about them, saying, `Go, number Israel and Judah.'

De nuevo la ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y provocó a David contra ellos y dijo: “Ve, haz un censo de Israel y de Judá.”

2 A nd the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that with him, `Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people -- and I have known the number of the people.'

Y el rey dijo a Joab, comandante del ejército, que estaba con él: “Recorre todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, y haz un censo del pueblo para que yo sepa el número de la gente.”

3 A nd Joab saith unto the king, `Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?'

Pero Joab respondió al rey: “Que el Señor su Dios añada al pueblo cien veces más de lo que son, mientras todavía vean los ojos de mi señor el rey; pero, ¿por qué se complace mi señor el rey en esto?”

4 A nd the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;

Sin embargo, la palabra del rey prevaleció contra Joab y contra los jefes del ejército. Salieron, pues, Joab y los jefes del ejército de la presencia del rey para hacer el censo del pueblo de Israel.

5 a nd they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,

Pasaron el Jordán y acamparon en Aroer, a la derecha de la ciudad que está en medio del Valle de Gad, y en dirección a Jazer.

6 a nd they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,

7 a nd they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.

8 A nd they go to and fro through all the land, and come in at the end of nine months and twenty days to Jerusalem,

Habiendo recorrido todo el país, volvieron a Jerusalén después de nueve meses y veinte días.

9 a nd Joab giveth the account of the inspection of the people unto the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.

Joab dio al rey la cifra del censo del pueblo: había en Israel 800, 000 hombres valientes que sacaban espada, y los de Judá eran 500, 000 hombres.

10 A nd the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

Después que David contó el pueblo le pesó en su corazón. Y David dijo al Señor: “He pecado en gran manera por lo que he hecho. Pero ahora, oh Señor, Te ruego que quites la iniquidad de Tu siervo, porque he obrado muy neciamente.”

11 A nd David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,

Cuando David se levantó por la mañana, la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:

12 ` Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three -- I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do to thee.'

“Ve y dile a David: ‘Así dice el Señor: “Te ofrezco tres cosas; escoge para ti una de ellas, para que Yo la haga.”’”

13 A nd Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, `Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary -- and he pursuing thee? or are three days' pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.'

Así que Gad fue a David y se lo hizo saber, diciéndo le: “¿ Quieres que te vengan siete años de hambre en tu tierra, o que huyas por tres meses delante de tus enemigos mientras te persiguen, o que haya tres días de pestilencia en tu tierra? Considera ahora, y mira qué respuesta he de dar al que me envió.”

14 A nd David saith unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

David respondió a Gad: “Estoy muy angustiado. Te ruego que nos dejes caer en manos del Señor porque grandes son Sus misericordias, pero no caiga yo en manos de hombre.”

15 A nd Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,

Y el Señor envió pestilencia sobre Israel desde la mañana hasta el tiempo señalado; y desde Dan hasta Beerseba murieron 70, 000 hombres del pueblo.

16 a nd the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, `Enough, now, cease thy hand;' and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

Cuando el ángel extendió su mano hacia Jerusalén para destruirla, el Señor se arrepintió del mal, y dijo al ángel que destruía al pueblo: “¡Basta! ¡Detén ahora tu mano!” Y el ángel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Arauna el Jebuseo.

17 A nd David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, `Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these -- the flock -- what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.'

Entonces David habló al Señor, cuando vio al ángel que hería al pueblo, y dijo: “Yo soy el que ha pecado, y yo soy el que ha hecho mal; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho ? Te ruego que Tu mano caiga sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre.”

18 A nd Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, `Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;'

Y Gad vino a David aquel día y le dijo: “Sube, edifica un altar al Señor en la era de Arauna el Jebuseo.”

19 a nd David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

David subió conforme a la palabra de Gad, tal como el Señor había ordenado.

20 A nd Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king -- his face to the earth.

Y Arauna miró y vio al rey y a sus siervos que venían hacia él; y saliendo Arauna, se postró rostro en tierra delante del rey.

21 A nd Araunah saith, `Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?' and David saith, `To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

Entonces Arauna dijo: “¿Por qué ha venido mi señor el rey a su siervo?” Y David respondió: “A comprarte la era para edificar un altar al Señor a fin de detener la plaga del pueblo.”

22 A nd Araunah saith unto David, `Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;'

Y Arauna dijo a David: “Tome y ofrezca mi señor el rey lo que parezca bien a sus ojos. Mire, los bueyes para el holocausto, y los trillos y los yugos de los bueyes para la leña.

23 t he whole hath Araunah given, a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, `Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.'

Todo, oh rey, Arauna lo da al rey.” “Que el Señor su Dios le sea propicio,” dijo Arauna al rey.

24 A nd the king saith unto Araunah, `Nay, for I do surely buy from thee for a price, and I do not cause to ascend to Jehovah my God burnt-offerings for nought;' and David buyeth the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,

Pero el rey dijo a Arauna: “No, sino que ciertamente por precio te lo compraré, pues no ofreceré al Señor mi Dios holocausto que no me cueste nada.” Y David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos (570 gramos) de plata.

25 a nd David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Jehovah is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.

Y allí edificó David un altar al Señor, y ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz. El Señor escuchó la súplica por la tierra y la plaga fue detenida en Israel.
