1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, come up hath Sennacherib king of Asshur against all the fenced cities of Judah, and seizeth them.

Y aconteció que en el año catorce del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y las tomó.

2 A nd the king of Asshur sendeth Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, unto the king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, and he standeth by the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller's field,

El rey de Asiria envió desde Laquis a Jerusalén, al Rabsaces con un gran ejército, contra el rey Ezequías. Y se colocó junto al acueducto del estanque superior que está en la calzada del campo del Batanero (del Lavandero).

3 a nd go forth unto him doth Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer.

Entonces Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo de la casa real, el escriba Sebna y el cronista Joa, hijo de Asaf, salieron a recibirlo.

4 A nd Rabshakeh saith unto them, `Say ye, I pray you, unto Hezekiah, `Thus said the great king, the king of Asshur, What this confidence in which thou hast confided?

Y el Rabsaces les dijo: “Digan ahora a Ezequías: ‘Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: “¿Qué confianza es ésta que tú tienes ?

5 I have said: Only, a word of the lips! counsel and might for battle: now, on whom hast thou trusted, that thou hast rebelled against me?

Yo digo: ‘ Tu consejo y poderío para la guerra sólo son palabras vacías.’ Ahora pues, ¿en quién confías que te has rebelado contra mí ?

6 ` Lo, thou hast trusted on the staff of this broken reed -- on Egypt -- which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it -- so Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

Yo sé que tú confías en el báculo de esta caña quebrada, es decir, en Egipto, en el cual, si un hombre se apoya, penetrará en su mano y la traspasará. Así es Faraón, rey de Egipto, para todos los que confían en él.

7 ` And dost thou say unto me, Unto Jehovah our God we have trusted? is it not He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath turned aside, and saith to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar ye do bow yourselves?

Pero si me dicen: ‘Nosotros confiamos en el Señor nuestro Dios,’ ¿no es El aquél cuyos lugares altos y cuyos altares Ezequías ha quitado y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: ‘Adoren delante de este altar’?

8 ` And now, negotiate, I pray thee, with my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to thee two thousand horses, if thou art able to put for thee riders on them.

Ahora pues, te ruego que llegues a un acuerdo con mi señor el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré 2, 000 caballos, si por tu parte puedes poner jinetes sobre ellos.

9 A nd how dost thou turn back the face of one captain of the least of the servants of my lord, and dost trust for thee on Egypt, for chariot and for horsemen?

¿Cómo, pues, puedes rechazar a un oficial de los menores de los siervos de mi señor, y confiar en Egipto para tener carros y hombres de a caballo ?

10 A nd now, without Jehovah have I come up against this land to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up unto this land, and thou hast destroyed it.'

¿He subido ahora sin el consentimiento del Señor contra esta tierra para destruirla? El Señor me dijo: ‘Sube contra esta tierra y destrúyela.’”’”

11 A nd Eliakim saith -- and Shebna and Joah -- unto Rabshakeh, `Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants Aramaean, for we are understanding; and do not speak unto us Jewish, in the ears of the people who on the wall.'

Entonces Eliaquim, Sebna y Joa dijeron al Rabsaces: “Le rogamos que usted hable a sus siervos en Arameo porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no nos hable en la lengua de Judá (Hebreo) a oídos del pueblo que está sobre la muralla.”

12 A nd Rabshakeh saith, `Unto thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men -- those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water with you?'

Pero el Rabsaces dijo: “¿Acaso me ha enviado mi señor para hablar estas palabras sólo a tu señor y a ti, y no a los hombres que están sentados en la muralla, condenados a comer sus propios excrementos y a beber su propia orina con ustedes?”

13 A nd Rabshakeh standeth and calleth with a great voice Jewish, and saith, `Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Asshur:

El Rabsaces se puso en pie, gritó a gran voz en la lengua de Judá: “Escuchen las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

14 T hus said the king, Let not Hezekiah lift you up, for he is not able to deliver you;

Así dice el rey: ‘Que no los engañe Ezequías, porque él no los podrá librar.

15 a nd let not Hezekiah make you trust unto Jehovah, saying, Jehovah doth certainly deliver us, this city is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

Que tampoco Ezequías los haga confiar en el Señor, diciendo: “Ciertamente el Señor nos librará, y esta ciudad no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.’”

16 ` Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make ye with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat ye each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink ye each the waters of his own well,

‘No escuchen a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: “Hagan la paz conmigo y salgan a mí, y coma cada uno de su vid y cada uno de su higuera, y beba cada cual de las aguas de su cisterna,

17 t ill my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards;

hasta que yo venga y los lleve a una tierra como su tierra, tierra de grano y de vino nuevo, tierra de pan y de viñas.’

18 l est Hezekiah doth persuade you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us. `Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?

Cuidado, no sea que Ezequías los engañe, diciendo: “El Señor nos librará.” ¿Acaso alguno de los dioses de las naciones ha librado su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

19 W here the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where the gods of Sepharvaim, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad ? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarvaim ? ¿Cuándo han librado ellos a Samaria de mi mano?

20 W ho among all the gods of these lands they who have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah doth deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'

¿Quiénes de entre todos los dioses de estas tierras han librado su tierra de mi mano, para que el Señor libre a Jerusalén de mi mano?’”

21 A nd they keep silent, and have not answered him a word, for a command of the king is, saying, `Do not answer him.'

Pero ellos se quedaron callados y no le respondieron palabra alguna; porque el rey había dado un mandato al pueblo diciéndole: “No le respondan.”

22 A nd Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of Rabshakeh.

Entonces Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, mayordomo de la casa real, el escriba Sebna y el cronista Joa, hijo de Asaf, fueron a Ezequías con sus vestidos rasgados, y le relataron las palabras del Rabsaces.
