1 A nd there is a certain man of Ramathaim-Zophim, of the hill-country of Ephraim, and his name Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, and Ephrathite,

Había un hombre de Ramataim de Zofim, de la región montañosa de Efraín, que se llamaba Elcana, hijo de Jeroham, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Tohu, hijo de Zuf, el Efrateo.

2 a nd he hath two wives, the name of the one Hannah, and the name of the second Peninnah, and Peninnah hath children, and Hannah hath no children.

Elcana tenía dos mujeres: el nombre de una era Ana y el de la otra Penina. Penina tenía hijos, pero Ana no los tenía.

3 A nd that man hath gone up out of his city from time to time, to bow himself, and to sacrifice, before Jehovah of Hosts, in Shiloh, and there two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Jehovah.

Todos los años aquel hombre subía de su ciudad para adorar y ofrecer sacrificio al Señor de los ejércitos en Silo. Allí los dos hijos de Elí, Ofni y Finees, eran sacerdotes del Señor.

4 A nd the day cometh, and Elkanah sacrificeth, and he hath given to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions,

Cuando llegaba el día en que Elcana ofrecía sacrificio, daba porciones a Penina su mujer y a todos sus hijos e hijas;

5 a nd to Hannah he giveth a certain portion -- double, for he hath loved Hannah, and Jehovah hath shut her womb;

pero a Ana le daba una doble porción, pues él amaba a Ana, aunque el Señor no le había dado hijos.

6 a nd her adversity hath also provoked her greatly, so as to make her tremble, for Jehovah hath shut up her womb.

Su rival, Penina, la provocaba amargamente para irritarla, porque el Señor no le había dado hijos.

7 A nd so he doth year by year, from the time of her going up into the house of Jehovah, so it provoketh her, and she weepeth, and doth not eat.

Esto sucedía año tras año; siempre que ella subía a la casa del Señor, Penina la provocaba, por lo que Ana lloraba y no comía.

8 A nd Elkanah her husband saith to her, `Hannah, why weepest thou? and why dost thou not eat? and why is thy heart afflicted? am I not better to thee than ten sons?'

Entonces Elcana su marido le dijo: “Ana, ¿por qué lloras y no comes? ¿Por qué está triste tu corazón? ¿No soy yo para ti mejor que diez hijos ?”

9 A nd Hannah riseth after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking, and Eli the priest is sitting on the throne by the side-post of the temple of Jehovah.

Pero Ana se levantó después de haber comido y bebido estando en Silo, y mientras el sacerdote Elí estaba sentado en la silla junto al poste de la puerta del templo del Señor,

10 A nd she is bitter in soul, and prayeth unto Jehovah, and weepeth greatly,

ella, muy angustiada, oraba al Señor y lloraba amargamente.

11 a nd voweth a vow, and saith, `Jehovah of Hosts, if Thou dost certainly look on the affliction of Thy handmaid, and hast remembered me, and dost not forget Thy handmaid, and hast given to Thy handmaid seed of men -- then I have given him to Jehovah all days of his life, and a razor doth not go up upon his head.'

Entonces hizo voto y dijo: “Oh Señor de los ejércitos, si Te dignas mirar la aflicción de Tu sierva, Te acuerdas de mí y no Te olvidas de Tu sierva, sino que das un hijo a Tu sierva, yo lo dedicaré al Señor por todos los días de su vida y nunca pasará navaja sobre su cabeza.”

12 A nd it hath been, when she multiplied praying before Jehovah, that Eli is watching her mouth,

Mientras ella continuaba en oración delante del Señor, Elí le estaba observando la boca.

13 a nd Hannah, she is speaking to her heart, only her lips are moving, and her voice is not heard, and Eli reckoneth her to be drunken.

Pero Ana hablaba en su corazón, sólo sus labios se movían y su voz no se oía. Elí, pues, pensó que estaba ebria.

14 A nd Eli saith unto her, `Until when are thou drunken? turn aside thy wine from thee.'

Entonces Elí le dijo: “¿Hasta cuándo estarás embriagada ? Echa de ti tu vino.”

15 A nd Hannah answereth and saith, `No, my lord, A woman sharply pained in spirit I, and wine and strong drink I have not drunk, and I pour out my soul before Jehovah;

Pero Ana respondió: “No, señor mío, soy una mujer angustiada en espíritu. No he bebido vino ni licor, sino que he derramado mi alma delante del Señor.

16 p ut not thy handmaid before a daughter of worthlessness, for from the abundance of my meditation, and of my provocation, I have spoken hitherto.'

No tenga a su sierva por mujer indigna. Hasta ahora he estado orando a causa de mi gran congoja y aflicción.”

17 A nd Eli answereth and saith, `Go in peace, and the God of Israel doth give thy petition which thou hast asked of Him.'

“Ve en paz,” le respondió Elí; “y que el Dios de Israel te conceda la petición que Le has hecho.”

18 A nd she saith, `Let thy handmaid find grace in thine eyes;' and the woman goeth on her way, and eateth, and her countenance hath not been for it any more.

“Halle su sierva gracia ante sus ojos,” le dijo ella. Entonces la mujer se puso en camino, comió y ya no estaba triste su semblante. Nacimiento y Dedicación de Samuel

19 A nd they rise early in the morning, and bow themselves before Jehovah, and turn back, and come in unto their house in Ramah, and Elkanah knoweth Hannah his wife, and Jehovah remembereth her;

A la mañana siguiente se levantaron bien temprano, adoraron delante del Señor y regresaron de nuevo a su casa en Ramá. Y Elcana se llegó a Ana su mujer, y el Señor se acordó de ella.

20 a nd it cometh to pass, at the revolution of the days, that Hannah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Samuel, `for, from Jehovah I have asked him.'

Y a su debido tiempo, después de haber concebido, Ana dio a luz un hijo, y le puso por nombre Samuel (Oído por Dios), diciendo: “Porque se lo he pedido al Señor.”

21 A nd the man Elkanah goeth up, and all his house, to sacrifice to Jehovah the sacrifice of the days, and his vow.

Subió el varón Elcana con toda su casa a ofrecer al Señor el sacrificio anual y a pagar su voto.

22 A nd Hannah hath not gone up, for she said to her husband, `Till the youth is weaned -- then I have brought him in, and he hath appeared before the face of Jehovah, and dwelt there -- unto the age.'

Pero Ana no subió, pues dijo a su marido: “ No subiré hasta que el niño sea destetado. Entonces lo llevaré para que se presente delante del Señor y se quede allí para siempre.”

23 A nd Elkanah her husband saith to her, `Do that which is good in thine eyes; abide till thy weaning him; only, Jehovah establish His word;' and the woman abideth and suckleth her son till she hath weaned him,

Elcana su marido le dijo: “Haz lo que mejor te parezca. Quédate hasta que lo hayas destetado; solamente confirme el Señor Su palabra.” Ana se quedó y crió a su hijo hasta que lo destetó.

24 a nd she causeth him to go up with her when she hath weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she bringeth him into the house of Jehovah at Shiloh, and the youth a youth.

Después de haberlo destetado, llevó consigo al niño, y lo trajo a la casa del Señor en Silo, aunque el niño era pequeño. También llevó un novillo de tres años, un efa (22 litros) de harina y un odre de vino.

25 A nd they slaughter the bullock, and bring in the youth unto Eli,

Entonces sacrificaron el novillo, y trajeron el niño a Elí.

26 a nd she saith, `O, my lord, thy soul liveth! my lord, I the woman who stood with thee in this, to pray unto Jehovah;

“¡Oh señor mío!” dijo Ana. “Vive su alma, señor mío. Yo soy la mujer que estuvo aquí junto a usted orando al Señor.

27 f or this youth I prayed, and Jehovah doth give to me my petition which I asked of Him;

Por este niño oraba, y el Señor me ha concedido la petición que le hice.

28 a nd also I have caused him to be asked for Jehovah, all the days that he hath lived -- he is asked for Jehovah;' and he boweth himself there before Jehovah.

Por lo cual yo también lo he dedicado al Señor. Todos los días de su vida estará dedicado al Señor.” Y adoró allí al Señor.
