1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

2 ` Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Give for you cities of refuge, as I have spoken unto you by the hand of Moses,

“Diles a los Israelitas: ‘ Designen las ciudades de refugio de las cuales les hablé por medio de Moisés,

3 f or the fleeing thither of a man-slayer smiting life inadvertently, without knowledge; and they have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer of blood.

para que huya allí el que haya matado a cualquier persona sin intención y sin premeditación. Ellas les servirán a ustedes de refugio contra el vengador de la sangre.

4 ` When hath fled unto one of these cities, and hath stood the opening of the gate of the city, and hath spoken in the ears of the elders of that city his matter, then they have gathered him into the city unto them, and have given to him a place, and he hath dwelt with them.

El que busca refugio huirá a una de estas ciudades, se presentará a la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad y expondrá su caso a oídos de los ancianos de la ciudad. Estos lo llevarán con ellos dentro de la ciudad y le darán un lugar para que habite en medio de ellos.

5 ` And when the redeemer of blood doth pursue after him, then they do not shut up the man-slayer into his hand, for without knowledge he hath smitten his neighbour, and is not hating him hitherto;

Y si el vengador de la sangre lo persigue, ellos no entregarán al acusado en su mano, porque hirió a su prójimo sin premeditación y sin odiarlo de antemano.

6 a nd he hath dwelt in that city till his standing before the company for judgment, till the death of the chief priest who is in those days -- then doth the man-slayer turn back and hath come unto his city, and unto his house, unto the city whence he fled.'

Habitará en esa ciudad hasta que comparezca en juicio delante de la congregación, y hasta la muerte del que sea sumo sacerdote en aquellos días. Entonces el refugiado volverá a su ciudad y a su casa, a la ciudad de donde huyó.’”

7 A nd they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;

Entonces ellos separaron a Cedes en Galilea, en la región montañosa de Neftalí, y a Siquem en la región montañosa de Efraín, y a Quiriat Arba, es decir, Hebrón, en la región montañosa de Judá.

8 a nd beyond the Jordan, Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Y más allá del Jordán, al oriente de Jericó, designaron a Beser en el desierto, en la llanura de la tribu de Rubén, a Ramot en Galaad, de la tribu de Gad, y a Golán en Basán, de la tribu de Manasés.

9 T hese have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting life inadvertently, and he doth not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood till his standing before the company.

Estas fueron las ciudades designadas para todos los Israelitas y para el extranjero que resida entre ellos, para que cualquiera que hubiera matado a cualquier persona sin intención, pudiera huir allí, y no muriera a mano del vengador de la sangre hasta que hubiera comparecido ante la congregación.
