1 A nd Jehoram son of Ahab hath reigned over Israel, in Samaria, in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigneth twelve years,

Joram, hijo de Acab, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel en Samaria en el año dieciocho de Josafat, rey de Judá; y reinó doce años.

2 a nd doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, only not like his father, and like his mother, and he turneth aside the standing-pillar of Baal that his father made;

Hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no como su padre y su madre, pues quitó el pilar sagrado de Baal que su padre había hecho.

3 o nly to the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat that he caused Israel to sin he hath cleaved, he hath not turned aside from it.

Sin embargo, se aferró a los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, con los que hizo pecar a Israel, y no se apartó de ellos.

4 A nd Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master, and he rendered to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs, and a hundred thousand rams, wool,

Y Mesa, rey de Moab, era criador de ovejas, y pagaba al rey de Israel 100, 000 corderos y la lana de 100, 000 carneros.

5 a nd it cometh to pass at the death of Ahab, that the king of Moab transgresseth against the king of Israel.

Pero cuando Acab murió, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.

6 A nd king Jehoram goeth out in that day from Samaria, and inspecteth all Israel,

Y aquel mismo día el rey Joram salió de Samaria y alistó a todo Israel.

7 a nd goeth and sendeth unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, `The king of Moab hath transgressed against me; dost thou go with me unto Moab for battle?' and he saith, `I go up, as I, so thou; as my people, so thy people; as my horses, so thy horses.

Y fue y envió palabra a Josafat, rey de Judá, diciendo: “El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí. ¿Irás conmigo a pelear contra Moab?” Y él respondió: “Subiré. Yo soy como tú, mi pueblo como tu pueblo, mis caballos como tus caballos.”

8 A nd he saith, `Where this -- the way we go up?' and he saith, `The way of the wilderness of Edom.'

Y le preguntó: “¿Por qué camino subiremos?” Y Joram respondió: “Por el camino del desierto de Edom.”

9 A nd the king of Israel goeth, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom, and they turn round the way seven days, and there hath been no water for the camp, and for the cattle that at their feet,

Entonces el rey de Israel fue con el rey de Judá y el rey de Edom; y después de dar un rodeo de siete días de camino, no había agua para el ejército ni para los animales que los seguían.

10 a nd the king of Israel saith, `Alas, for Jehovah hath called for these three kings, to give them into the hand of Moab.'

Así que el rey de Israel dijo: “¡Ah! Porque el Señor ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de Moab.”

11 A nd Jehoshaphat saith, `Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah, and we seek Jehovah by him?' And one of the servants of the king of Israel answereth and saith, `Here Elisha son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.'

Pero Josafat dijo: “¿No hay aquí un profeta del Señor para que consultemos al Señor por medio de él ?” Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió: “Aquí está Eliseo, hijo de Safat, el que vertía agua en las manos de Elías.”

12 A nd Jehoshaphat saith, `The word of Jehovah is with him;' and go down unto him do the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom.

Y Josafat dijo: “La palabra del Señor está con él.” Así que el rey de Israel y Josafat y el rey de Edom fueron adonde estaba Eliseo.

13 A nd Elisha saith unto the king of Israel, `What -- to me and to thee? go unto the prophets of thy father, and unto the prophets of thy mother;' and the king of Israel saith to him, `Nay, for Jehovah hath called for these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.'

Entonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: “¿Qué tengo que ver con usted? Vaya a los profetas de su padre y a los profetas de su madre.” Y el rey de Israel le dijo: “No, porque el Señor ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en mano de Moab.”

14 A nd Elisha saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood; for unless the face of Jehoshaphat king of Judah I am lifting up, I do not look unto thee, nor see thee;

Y Eliseo dijo: “Vive el Señor de los ejércitos, ante quien estoy, que si no fuera por respeto a la presencia de Josafat, rey de Judá, no lo miraría ni lo atendería.

15 a nd now, bring to me a minstrel; and it hath been, at the playing of the minstrel, that the hand of Jehovah is on him,

Pero tráiganme ahora un músico. Y sucedió que mientras el músico tocaba, la mano del Señor vino sobre Eliseo,

16 a nd he saith, `Thus said Jehovah, Make this valley ditches -- ditches;

y él dijo: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Hagan en este valle muchas zanjas.’

17 f or thus said Jehovah, Ye do not see wind, nor do ye see rain, and that valley is full of water, and ye have drunk -- ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

Pues así dice el Señor: ‘No verán viento, ni verán lluvias; sin embargo ese valle se llenará de agua, y beberán ustedes y sus ganados y sus bestias.’

18 ` And this hath been light in the eyes of Jehovah, and he hath given Moab into your hand,

Aun esto es poco ante los ojos del Señor; también entregará en manos de ustedes a los Moabitas.

19 a nd ye have smitten every fenced city, and every choice city, and every good tree ye cause to fall, and all fountains of waters ye stop, and every good portion ye mar with stones.'

Ustedes destruirán toda ciudad fortificada y toda ciudad principal, talarán todo árbol bueno, cegarán todas las fuentes de agua y dañarán con piedras todo terreno fértil.’”

20 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, at the ascending of the -present, that lo, waters are coming in from the way of Edom, and the land is filled with the waters,

Y aconteció que por la mañana, a la hora de ofrecer el sacrificio, el agua vino por el camino de Edom, y la tierra se llenó de agua.

21 a nd all Moab have heard that the kings have come up to fight against them, and they are called together, from every one girding on a girdle and upward, and they stand by the border.

Y todos los Moabitas oyeron que los reyes habían subido a pelear contra ellos. Y convocaron a todos, desde los que podían ponerse armadura en adelante, y se colocaron en la frontera.

22 A nd they rise early in the morning, and the sun hath shone on the waters, and the Moabites see, from over-against, the waters red as blood,

Se levantaron muy de mañana, y cuando el sol brilló sobre el agua, los Moabitas vieron el agua frente a ellos tan roja como la sangre.

23 a nd say, `Blood this; the kings have been surely destroyed, and they smite each his neighbour; and now for spoil, Moab!'

Entonces dijeron: “Esto es sangre; sin duda los reyes han peleado entre sí, y se han matado unos a otros. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, al despojo!”

24 A nd they come in unto the camp of Israel, and the Israelites rise, and smite the Moabites, and they flee from their face; and they enter into Moab, so as to smite Moab,

Pero cuando llegaron al campamento de Israel, los Israelitas se levantaron e hirieron a los Moabitas, y éstos huyeron delante de ellos; y los Israelitas invadieron el país matando a los Moabitas.

25 a nd the cities they break down, and every good portion they cast each his stone, and have filled it, and every fountain of water they stop, and every good tree they cause to fall -- till one had left its stones in Kir-Haraseth, and the slingers go round and smite it.

Destruyeron las ciudades, y cada uno arrojó su piedra en toda parcela de tierra buena, y las llenaron. Cegaron todas las fuentes de agua y talaron todos los árboles buenos, hasta dejar en Kir Hareset sólo sus piedras; no obstante, los honderos la rodearon y la destruyeron.

26 A nd the king of Moab seeth that the battle has been too strong for him, and he taketh with him seven hundred men, drawing sword, to cleave through unto the king of Edom, and they have not been able,

Al ver el rey de Moab que la batalla arreciaba contra él, tomó consigo 700 hombres que sacaban espada, para abrir brecha hacia el rey de Edom, pero no pudieron.

27 a nd he taketh his son, the first-born who reigneth in his stead, and causeth him to ascend -- a burnt-offering on the wall, and there is great wrath against Israel, and they journey from off him, and turn back to the land.

Entonces tomó a su hijo primogénito que había de reinar en su lugar, y lo ofreció en holocausto sobre la muralla. Y hubo gran ira contra los Israelitas, quienes se apartaron de allí y regresaron a su tierra.
