1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the days of the judging of the judges, that there is a famine in the land, and there goeth a man from Beth-Lehem-Judah to sojourn in the fields of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.

Aconteció que en los días en que gobernaban los jueces, en Israel hubo hambre en el país. Y un hombre de Belén de Judá fue a residir en los campos de Moab con su mujer y sus dos hijos.

2 A nd the name of the man Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Beth-Lehem-Judah; and they come into the fields of Moab, and are there.

Aquel hombre se llamaba Elimelec, y su mujer se llamaba Noemí. Los nombres de sus dos hijos eran Mahlón y Quelión, Efrateos de Belén de Judá. Y llegaron a los campos de Moab y allí se quedaron.

3 A nd Elimelech husband of Naomi dieth, and she is left, she and her two sons;

Y murió Elimelec, marido de Noemí, y quedó ella con sus dos hijos.

4 a nd they take to them wives, Moabitesses: the name of the one Orpah, and the name of the second Ruth; and they dwell there about ten years.

Ellos se casaron con mujeres Moabitas; el nombre de una era Orfa y el nombre de la otra Rut. Y vivieron allí unos diez años.

5 A nd they die also, both of them -- Mahlon and Chilion -- and the woman is left of her two children and of her husband.

Murieron también los dos, Mahlón y Quelión, y la mujer quedó privada de sus dos hijos y de su marido.

6 A nd she riseth, she and her daughters-in-law, and turneth back from the fields of Moab, for she hath heard in the fields of Moab that God hath looked after His people, -- to give to them bread.

Entonces se levantó con sus nueras para regresar de la tierra de Moab, porque ella había oído en la tierra de Moab que el Señor había visitado a Su pueblo dándole alimento.

7 A nd she goeth out from the place where she hath been, and her two daughters-in-law with her, and they go in the way to turn back unto the land of Judah.

Salió, pues, del lugar donde estaba, y sus dos nueras con ella, y se pusieron en camino para volver a la tierra de Judá.

8 A nd Naomi saith to her two daughters-in-law, `Go, turn back, each to the house of her mother; Jehovah doth with you kindness as ye have done with the dead, and with me;

Y Noemí dijo a sus dos nueras: “Vayan, regrese cada una a la casa de su madre. Que el Señor tenga misericordia de ustedes como ustedes la han tenido con los que murieron y conmigo.

9 J ehovah doth grant to you, and find ye rest each in the house of her husband;' and she kisseth them, and they lift up their voice and weep.

Que el Señor les conceda que hallen descanso, cada una en la casa de su marido.” Entonces las besó, y ellas alzaron sus voces y lloraron,

10 A nd they say to her, `Surely with thee we go back to thy people.'

y le dijeron: “ No, sino que ciertamente volveremos contigo a tu pueblo.”

11 A nd Naomi saith, `Turn back, my daughters; why do ye go with me? are there yet to me sons in my bowels that they have been to you for husbands?

Pero Noemí dijo: “Vuélvanse, hijas mías. ¿Por qué quieren ir conmigo? ¿Acaso tengo aún hijos en mis entrañas para que sean sus maridos ?

12 T urn back, my daughters, go, for I am too aged to be to a husband; though I had said, There is for me hope, also, I have been to-night to a husband, and also I have borne sons:

Vuélvanse, hijas mías. Váyanse, porque soy demasiado vieja para tener marido. Si dijera que tengo esperanza, y si aun tuviera un marido esta noche y también diera a luz hijos,

13 f or them do ye wait till that they grow up? for them do ye shut yourselves up, not to be to a husband? nay, my daughters, for more bitter to me than to you, for the hand of Jehovah hath gone out against me.'

¿esperarían por eso hasta que fueran mayores? ¿Dejarían ustedes de casarse por eso? No, hijas mías, porque eso es más difícil para mí que para ustedes, pues la mano del Señor se ha levantado contra mí.”

14 A nd they lift up their voice, and weep again, and Orpah kisseth her mother-in-law, and Ruth hath cleaved to her.

Y ellas alzaron sus voces y lloraron otra vez; y Orfa besó a su suegra, pero Rut se quedó con ella.

15 A nd she saith, `Lo, thy sister-in-law hath turned back unto her people, and unto her god, turn thou back after thy sister-in-law.'

Entonces Noemí dijo: “Mira, tu cuñada ha regresado a su pueblo y a sus dioses; vuelve tras tu cuñada.”

16 A nd Ruth saith, `Urge me not to leave thee -- to turn back from after thee; for whither thou goest I go, and where thou lodgest I lodge; thy people my people, and thy God my God.

Pero Rut le respondió: “No insistas en que te deje o que deje de seguirte; porque adonde tú vayas, yo iré, y donde tú mores, moraré. Tu pueblo será mi pueblo, y tu Dios mi Dios.

17 W here thou diest I die, and there I am buried; thus doth Jehovah to me, and thus doth He add -- for death itself doth part between me and thee.'

Donde tú mueras, allí moriré, y allí seré sepultada. Así haga el Señor conmigo, y aún peor, si algo, excepto la muerte, nos separa.”

18 A nd she seeth that she is strengthening herself to go with her, and she ceaseth to speak unto her;

Al ver Noemí que Rut estaba decidida a ir con ella, no le insistió más.

19 a nd they go both of them till their coming in to Beth-Lehem; and it cometh to pass at their coming in to Beth-Lehem, that all the city is moved at them, and they say, `Is this Naomi?'

Caminaron, pues, las dos hasta que llegaron a Belén. Cuando llegaron a Belén (Casa del Pan), toda la ciudad se conmovió a causa de ellas, y las mujeres decían: “¿ No es ésta Noemí?”

20 A nd she saith unto them, `Call me not Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly to me,

Ella les dijo: “No me llamen Noemí (Placentera), llámenme Mara (Amarga), porque el trato del Todopoderoso (Shaddai) me ha llenado de amargura.

21 I went out full, and empty hath Jehovah brought me back, why do ye call me Naomi, and Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath done evil to me?'

Llena me fui, pero vacía me ha hecho volver el Señor. ¿Por qué me llaman Noemí, ya que el Señor ha dado testimonio contra mí y el Todopoderoso (Shaddai) me ha afligido?”

22 A nd Naomi turneth back, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who hath turned back from the fields of Moab, and they have come in to Beth-Lehem at the commencement of barley-harvest.

Y volvió Noemí, y con ella su nuera Rut la Moabita, regresando así de los campos de Moab. Llegaron a Belén al comienzo de la siega de la cebada.
