1 A nd I, Paul, myself, do call upon you -- through the meekness and gentleness of the Christ -- who in presence, indeed humble among you, and being absent, have courage toward you,

Yo mismo, Pablo, les ruego por la mansedumbre y la benignidad de Cristo, yo, que soy humilde cuando estoy delante de ustedes, pero osado para con ustedes cuando estoy ausente,

2 a nd I beseech, that, being present, I may not have courage, with the confidence with which I reckon to be bold against certain reckoning us as walking according to the flesh;

ruego, pues, que cuando esté presente, no tenga que ser osado con la confianza con que me propongo proceder resueltamente (ser valiente) contra algunos que nos consideran como si anduviéramos según la carne.

3 f or walking in the flesh, not according to the flesh do we war,

Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no luchamos según la carne.

4 f or the weapons of our warfare not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds,

Porque las armas de nuestra contienda no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;

5 r easonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ,

destruyendo especulaciones y todo razonamiento altivo que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y poniendo todo pensamiento en cautiverio a la obediencia de Cristo,

6 a nd being in readiness to avenge every disobedience, whenever your obedience may be fulfilled.

y estando preparados para castigar toda desobediencia cuando la obediencia de ustedes sea completa.

7 T he things in presence do ye see? if any one hath trusted in himself to be Christ's, this let him reckon again from himself, that according as he is Christ's, so also we Christ's;

Ustedes ven las cosas según la apariencia exterior. Si alguien tiene confianza en sí mismo de que es de Cristo, considere esto dentro de sí otra vez: que así como él es de Cristo, también lo somos nosotros.

8 f or even if also anything more abundantly I shall boast concerning our authority, that the Lord gave us for building up, and not for casting you down, I shall not be ashamed;

Pues aunque yo me gloríe más todavía respecto de nuestra autoridad, que el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para la destrucción de ustedes, no me avergonzaré,

9 t hat I may not seem as if I would terrify you through the letters,

para que no parezca como que deseo asustarlos con mis cartas.

10 ` because the letters indeed -- saith one -- weighty and strong, and the bodily presence weak, and the speech despicable.'

Porque ellos dicen: “Sus cartas son severas (pesadas) y duras, pero la presencia física es poco impresionante, y la manera de hablar despreciable.”

11 T his one -- let him reckon thus: that such as we are in word, through letters, being absent, such also, being present, in deed.

Esto tenga en cuenta tal persona: que lo que somos en palabra por carta, estando ausentes, lo somos también en hechos, estando presentes.

12 F or we do not make bold to rank or to compare ourselves with certain of those commending themselves, but they, among themselves measuring themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are not wise,

Porque no nos atrevemos a contarnos ni a compararnos con algunos que se alaban a sí mismos. Pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos y comparándose consigo mismos, carecen de entendimiento.

13 a nd we in regard to the unmeasured things will not boast ourselves, but after the measure of the line that the God of measure did appoint to us -- to reach even unto you;

Pero nosotros no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente, sino dentro de la medida de la esfera que Dios nos señaló como límite (medida) para llegar también hasta ustedes.

14 f or not as not reaching to you do we stretch ourselves overmuch, for even unto you did we come in the good news of the Christ,

Pues no nos excedemos a nosotros mismos, como si no los hubiéramos alcanzado, ya que nosotros fuimos los primeros en llegar hasta ustedes con el evangelio de Cristo.

15 n ot boasting of the things not measured, in other men's labours, and having hope -- your faith increasing -- in you to be enlarged, according to our line -- into abundance,

No nos gloriamos desmedidamente, esto es, en los trabajos de otros, sino tenemos la esperanza de que conforme la fe de ustedes crezca, nosotros seremos, dentro de nuestra esfera, engrandecidos aún más por ustedes,

16 i n the beyond you to proclaim good news, not in another's line in regard to the things made ready, to boast;

para predicar el evangelio (anunciar las buenas nuevas) aun a las regiones que están más allá de ustedes, y para no gloriarnos en lo que ya se ha hecho en la esfera de otro.

17 a nd he who is boasting -- in the Lord let him boast;

Pero el que se gloria, que se glorie en el Señor.

18 f or not he who is commending himself is approved, but he whom the Lord doth commend.

Porque no es aprobado el que se alaba a sí mismo, sino aquél a quien el Señor alaba.
