1 A nd the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, `Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'

Después de muchos días, la palabra del Señor vino a Elías en el tercer año, diciéndole: “Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y enviaré lluvia sobre la superficie de la tierra.”

2 a nd Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,

Y Elías fue a mostrarse a Acab. Y el hambre era intensa en Samaria.

3 a nd Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who over the house -- and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,

Y Acab llamó a Abdías que era mayordomo de la casa. (Y Abdías temía (reverenciaba) en gran manera al Señor;

4 a nd it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water --

pues cuando Jezabel destruyó a los profetas del Señor, Abdías tomó a cien profetas y los escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta en una cueva, y los sustentó con pan y agua.)

5 a nd Ahab saith unto Obadiah, `Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'

Entonces Acab dijo a Abdías: “Ve por la tierra a todas las fuentes de agua y a todos los valles; quizá hallaremos hierba y conservaremos con vida los caballos y los mulos, y no tendremos que matar parte del ganado.”

6 A nd they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;

Y dividieron la tierra entre ellos para recorrerla; Acab se fue solo por un camino, y Abdías se fue solo por otro.

7 a nd Obadiah in the way, and lo, Elijah -- to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, `Art thou he -- my lord Elijah?'

Abdías estaba en el camino cuando Elías le salió al encuentro, y Abdías lo reconoció y cayó sobre su rostro, y le dijo: “¿Es usted Elías, mi señor?”

8 A nd he saith to him, `I; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'

El le respondió: “Yo soy. Ve, dile a tu señor: ‘Aquí está Elías.’”

9 A nd he saith, `What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab -- to put me to death?

Y él dijo: “¿Qué pecado he cometido, que entrega a su siervo en manos de Acab para que me mate?

10 J ehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;

Vive el Señor su Dios, que no hay nación ni reino adonde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarlo; y cuando decían: ‘No está aquí,’ hacía jurar al reino o a la nación que no lo habían hallado.

11 a nd now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;

Y ahora dices: ‘Ve, dile a tu señor: “Aquí está Elías.”’

12 a nd it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.

Y sucederá que cuando lo deje, el Espíritu del Señor lo llevará adonde yo no sepa; así que cuando yo vaya y se lo diga a Acab y él no pueda encontrarlo, me matará, aunque yo su siervo he temido (reverenciado) al Señor desde mi juventud.

13 ` Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?

¿No le han contado a mi señor lo que hice cuando Jezabel mató a los profetas del Señor, que escondí a cien de los profetas del Señor de cincuenta en cincuenta en una cueva, y los sustenté con pan y agua ?

14 a nd now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah -- and he hath slain me!'

Y ahora usted me dice: ‘Ve, dile a tu señor: “Aquí está Elías”’; entonces me matará.”

15 A nd Elijah saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'

Elías le dijo: “Vive el Señor de los ejércitos, delante de quien estoy, que hoy ciertamente me mostraré a él.”

16 A nd Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,

Abdías fue al encuentro de Acab, y le dio aviso; y Acab fue al encuentro de Elías.

17 a nd it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, `Art thou he -- the troubler of Israel?'

Cuando Acab vio a Elías, Acab le dijo: “¿Eres tú, perturbador de Israel?”

18 A nd he saith, `I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;

Y él respondió: “Yo no he perturbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, porque ustedes han abandonado los mandamientos del Señor y han seguido a los baales.

19 a nd now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred -- eating at the table of Jezebel.'

Ahora pues, envía a reunir conmigo a todo Israel en el Monte Carmelo, junto con 450 profetas de Baal y 400 profetas de la Asera que comen a la mesa de Jezabel.” Elías y los Profetas de Baal

20 A nd Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;

Acab envió mensaje a todos los Israelitas y reunió a los profetas en el Monte Carmelo.

21 a nd Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, `Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? -- if Jehovah God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.

Elías se acercó a todo el pueblo y dijo: “¿Hasta cuándo vacilarán entre dos opiniones ? Si el Señor es Dios, síganlo; y si Baal, síganlo a él.” Pero el pueblo no le respondió ni una palabra.

22 A nd Elijah saith unto the people, `I -- I have been left a prophet of Jehovah -- by myself; and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty men;

Entonces Elías dijo al pueblo: “Solo yo he quedado como profeta del Señor, pero los profetas de Baal son 450 hombres.

23 a nd let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place on the wood, and place no fire; and I -- I prepare the other bullock, and have put on the wood, and fire I do not place; --

Que nos den, pues, dos novillos. Que escojan un novillo para ellos y lo despedacen, y lo coloquen sobre la leña, pero que no le pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro novillo y lo colocaré sobre la leña, y no le pondré fuego.

24 a nd ye have called in the name of your god, and I -- I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire -- He the God.' And all the people answer and say, `Good the word.'

Entonces invoquen el nombre de su dios, y yo invocaré el nombre del Señor; y el Dios que responda por fuego, ése es Dios.” Y todo el pueblo respondió: “La idea es buena.”

25 A nd Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, `Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'

Y Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: “Escojan un novillo para ustedes y prepárenlo primero, pues son los más, e invoquen el nombre de su dios, pero no le pongan fuego.”

26 A nd they take the bullock that gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.

Entonces tomaron el novillo que les dieron y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: “Oh Baal, respóndenos.” Pero no hubo voz ni nadie respondió. Y danzaban alrededor del altar que habían hecho.

27 A nd it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, `Call with a loud voice, for he a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'

Como al mediodía, Elías se burlaba de ellos y decía: “Clamen en voz alta, pues es un dios; tal vez estará meditando o se habrá desviado, o estará de viaje, quizá esté dormido y habrá que despertarlo.”

28 A nd they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood on them;

Y gritaban a grandes voces y se sajaban, según su costumbre, con espadas y lanzas hasta que la sangre chorreaba sobre ellos.

29 a nd it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.

Pasado el mediodía, se pusieron a gritar frenéticamente hasta la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio de la tarde; pero no hubo voz, ni nadie respondió ni nadie hizo caso.

30 A nd Elijah saith to all the people, `Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;

Entonces Elías dijo a todo el pueblo: “Acérquense a mí.” Y todo el pueblo se acercó a Elías. Entonces él reparó el altar del Señor que había sido derribado.

31 a nd Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, `Israel is thy name;'

Elías tomó doce piedras conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, a quien había venido la palabra del Señor, diciendo: “Israel será tu nombre.”

32 a nd he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.

Con las piedras edificó un altar en el nombre del Señor, e hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, suficientemente grande para contener dos medidas (14. 6 litros) de semilla.

33 A nd he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth on the wood, and saith, `Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;

Dispuso después la leña, cortó el novillo en pedazos y lo colocó sobre la leña.

34 a nd he saith, `Do a second time;' and they do a second time; and he saith, `Do a third time;' and they do a third time;

Y dijo: “Llenen cuatro cántaros de agua y derrámen la sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña.” Después dijo: “Háganlo por segunda vez; y lo hicieron por segunda vez.” Y añadió: “Háganlo por tercera vez;” y lo hicieron por tercera vez.

35 a nd the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.

El agua corría alrededor del altar, y también llenó la zanja de agua.

36 A nd it cometh to pass, at the going up of the present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, `Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;

Y a la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio de la tarde, el profeta Elías se acercó y dijo: “Oh Señor, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, que se sepa hoy que Tú eres Dios en Israel, que yo soy Tu siervo y que he hecho todas estas cosas por palabra Tuya.

37 a nswer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'

Respóndeme, oh Señor, respóndeme, para que este pueblo sepa que Tú, oh Señor, eres Dios, y que has hecho volver sus corazones.”

38 A nd there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that in the trench it hath licked up.

Entonces cayó el fuego del Señor, y consumió el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el polvo, y secó el agua de la zanja.

39 A nd all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Jehovah, He the God, Jehovah, He the God.'

Cuando todo el pueblo lo vio, se postraron sobre su rostro y dijeron: “El Señor, El es Dios; el Señor, El es Dios.”

40 A nd Elijah saith to them, `Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.

Entonces Elías les dijo: “Prendan a los profetas de Baal, que no se escape ninguno de ellos.” Los prendieron, y Elías los hizo bajar al torrente Cisón y allí los degolló. Fin de la Sequía

41 A nd Elijah saith to Ahab, `Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'

Y Elías dijo a Acab: “Sube, come y bebe; porque se oye el estruendo de mucha lluvia.”

42 A nd Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,

Acab subió a comer y a beber, pero Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo; y allí se agachó en tierra y puso su rostro entre las rodillas.

43 a nd saith unto his young man, `Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, `There is nothing;' and he saith, `Turn back,' seven times.

Y dijo a su criado: “Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar.” Y él subió, miró y dijo: “No hay nada.” Y Elías dijo siete veces: “Vuelve a mirar.”

44 A nd it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind -- and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'

Y sucedió que a la séptima vez, él dijo: “Veo una nube tan pequeña como la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar.” Y Elías le dijo: “Sube, y dile a Acab: ‘Prepara tu carro y desciende, para que la fuerte lluvia no te detenga.’”

45 A nd it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black -- thick clouds and wind -- and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,

Al poco tiempo, el cielo se oscureció con nubes y viento, y hubo gran lluvia. Y Acab montó en su carro y fue a Jezreel.

46 a nd the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.

Y la mano del Señor estaba sobre Elías, quien ajustándose el cinturón corrió delante de Acab hasta Jezreel.
