1 A nd the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, `Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'

Спустя долгое время, на третьем году засухи, к Илии было слово Господа: – Иди и предстань перед Ахавом, и Я пошлю на землю дождь.

2 a nd Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,

И Илия пошел, чтобы предстать перед Ахавом. В Самарии был страшный голод,

3 a nd Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who over the house -- and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,

и Ахав призвал Авдия, распорядителя его дворца. (Авдий был верным почитателем Господа.

4 a nd it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water --

Когда Иезавель истребляла Господних пророков, Авдий взял сто пророков и спрятал их в двух пещерах, по пятьдесят в каждой, и снабжал их пищей и водой.)

5 a nd Ahab saith unto Obadiah, `Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'

Ахав сказал Авдию: – Иди по стране ко всем источникам воды и рекам. Может быть, мы сможем найти траву, чтобы прокормить лошадей и мулов, и нам не придется их убивать.

6 A nd they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;

Они поделили между собой землю, которую собирались обойти, и Ахав пошел в одну сторону, а Авдий – в другую.

7 a nd Obadiah in the way, and lo, Elijah -- to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, `Art thou he -- my lord Elijah?'

Когда Авдий был в пути, ему повстречался Илия. Авдий узнал его, поклонился до земли и сказал: – Ты ли это, мой господин Илия?

8 A nd he saith to him, `I; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'

– Я, – ответил он. – Иди, скажи хозяину: «Илия здесь».

9 A nd he saith, `What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab -- to put me to death?

– Чем я согрешил, – спросил Авдий, – что ты отдаешь твоего слугу в руки Ахава на казнь?

10 J ehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;

Верно, как и то, что жив Господь, твой Бог: нет ни такого народа, ни царства, куда мой господин не посылал бы искать тебя. И всякий раз, когда в том царстве или в народе говорили, что тебя там нет, он брал с них клятву, что они не смогли тебя отыскать.

11 a nd now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;

А теперь ты говоришь: «Пойди, скажи хозяину, что Илия здесь.

12 a nd it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.

Я уйду от тебя, а Дух Господень унесет тебя, не знаю куда. Я приду и скажу Ахаву, он тебя не найдет и убьет меня. А я, твой слуга, чту Господа с юности.

13 ` Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?

Разве моему господину не рассказывали, что я сделал, когда Иезавель убивала пророков Господа? Я спрятал сто пророков Господа в двух пещерах, по пятьдесят в каждой, и снабжал их пищей и водой.

14 a nd now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah -- and he hath slain me!'

А теперь ты говоришь мне пойти к моему хозяину и сказать: «Илия здесь». Да он меня убьет!

15 A nd Elijah saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'

Илия сказал: – Верно, как и то, что жив Господь Сил, я непременно предстану сегодня перед Ахавом. Илия и пророки Баала на горе Кармил

16 A nd Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,

Авдий отправился навстречу Ахаву и все рассказал ему. Тогда Ахав пошел навстречу Илии.

17 a nd it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, `Art thou he -- the troubler of Israel?'

Увидев Илию, он сказал ему: – Это ты навел беду на Израиль?

18 A nd he saith, `I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;

– Не я навел беду на Израиль, – ответил Илия, – а ты и дом твоего отца. Вы оставили повеления Господа и пошли за Баалами.

19 a nd now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred -- eating at the table of Jezebel.'

Пошли же людей и собери народ со всего Израиля ко мне на гору Кармил. Приведи четыреста пятьдесят пророков Баала и четыреста пророков Ашеры, которые едят со стола Иезавели.

20 A nd Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;

Ахав послал известить всех израильтян и собрал пророков на гору Кармил.

21 a nd Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, `Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? -- if Jehovah God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.

Илия вышел к народу и сказал: – Сколько еще вы будете пытаться усидеть на двух стульях? Если Господь – это Бог, идите за Ним, а если Баал, то идите за ним. Народ не отвечал ему ни слова.

22 A nd Elijah saith unto the people, `I -- I have been left a prophet of Jehovah -- by myself; and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty men;

Тогда Илия сказал им: – Из Господних пророков остался я один, а у Баала пророков четыреста пятьдесят человек.

23 a nd let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place on the wood, and place no fire; and I -- I prepare the other bullock, and have put on the wood, and fire I do not place; --

Пусть нам приведут двух быков. Затем пусть они выберут себе одного, разрежут его на куски и положат на дрова, но не поджигают их. Я подготовлю другого быка, положу его на дрова, но не подожгу их.

24 a nd ye have called in the name of your god, and I -- I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire -- He the God.' And all the people answer and say, `Good the word.'

И тогда вы призовете имя вашего бога, а я призову Имя Господа. Бог, который ответит огнем, – и есть истинный Бог. И весь народ сказал: – То, что ты говоришь, хорошо.

25 A nd Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, `Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'

Илия сказал пророкам Баала: – Выберите одного из двух быков и приготовьте его первыми, раз вас так много. Призывайте имя своего бога, но не зажигайте огня.

26 A nd they take the bullock that gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.

Они взяли быка, которого им дали, и подготовили его. Они призывали имя Баала с утра до полудня. – Баал, ответь нам! – кричали они. Но отклика не было, никто не отвечал. Они скакали вокруг сделанного ими жертвенника.

27 A nd it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, `Call with a loud voice, for he a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'

В полдень Илия начал насмехаться над ними. – Кричите громче! – говорил он. – Он же бог! Наверное, он задумался, занят или путешествует. А может быть, он спит, и его нужно разбудить.

28 A nd they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood on them;

Они кричали громче и, по своему обычаю, резали себя мечами и копьями, пока не полилась кровь.

29 a nd it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.

Миновал полдень, а они продолжали неистовствовать до времени вечернего жертвоприношения. Но ни отклика, ни ответа, ни отзыва не было.

30 A nd Elijah saith to all the people, `Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;

Тогда Илия сказал народу: – Подойдите ко мне. Они подошли к нему, и он восстановил разрушенный жертвенник Господа.

31 a nd Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, `Israel is thy name;'

Илия взял двенадцать камней – по числу родов, произошедших от Иакова, к которому было обращено слово Господа: «Твое имя будет Израиль».

32 a nd he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.

Из этих камней он сложил жертвенник во Имя Господа и выкопал вокруг него ров в две сеи зерна.

33 A nd he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth on the wood, and saith, `Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;

Он разложил дрова, разрезал быка на части и положил его на дрова.

34 a nd he saith, `Do a second time;' and they do a second time; and he saith, `Do a third time;' and they do a third time;

Затем он сказал: – Наполните четыре больших кувшина водой и вылейте ее на жертву всесожжения и на дрова. – Повторите, – сказал он. И они повторили. – Сделайте это в третий раз, – сказал он. И они сделали это в третий раз.

35 a nd the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.

Вода лилась вокруг жертвенника и даже наполнила ров.

36 A nd it cometh to pass, at the going up of the present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, `Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;

Когда пришло время жертвоприношения, пророк Илия подошел и сказал: – Господи, Боже Авраама, Исаака и Израиля, пусть откроется сегодня, что Ты – Бог в Израиле, а я – Твой слуга и совершил все это по Твоему слову!

37 a nswer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'

Ответь мне, Господи, ответь мне, чтобы этот народ узнал, что Ты, Господи, Бог и что Ты вновь обращаешь их сердца.

38 A nd there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that in the trench it hath licked up.

Тогда сошел огонь Господень и пожрал жертву всесожжения, дрова, камни и почву и поглотил воду во рву.

39 A nd all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Jehovah, He the God, Jehovah, He the God.'

Увидев это, весь народ пал ниц и закричал: – Господь есть Бог! Господь есть Бог!

40 A nd Elijah saith to them, `Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.

А Илия приказал им: – Схватите пророков Баала! Смотрите, чтобы ни один не скрылся! Они схватили их, а Илия отвел их к реке Кишону и там перебил. Конец засухи

41 A nd Elijah saith to Ahab, `Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'

Илия сказал Ахаву: – Иди, ешь и пей, потому что вот он, шум ливня.

42 A nd Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,

И Ахав пошел есть и пить, а Илия поднялся на вершину Кармила, где склонился до земли и положил свое лицо между колен.

43 a nd saith unto his young man, `Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, `There is nothing;' and he saith, `Turn back,' seven times.

– Пойди, посмотри в сторону моря, – сказал он слуге. Тот пошел и посмотрел. – Ничего нет, – сказал он. Семь раз Илия говорил: «Иди снова».

44 A nd it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind -- and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'

На седьмой раз слуга сказал: – С моря поднимается облако, размером не больше ладони. Илия сказал: – Пойди и скажи Ахаву: «Запрягай колесницу и поезжай, чтобы тебя не застал дождь».

45 A nd it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black -- thick clouds and wind -- and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,

Тем временем небо потемнело от облаков, поднялся ветер, начался сильный ливень, и Ахав поехал в Изреель.

46 a nd the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.

А на Илию сошла Господня сила, и, заправив плащ под пояс, он бежал всю дорогу до Изрееля перед Ахавом.
