1 A nd Pashhur son of Immer the priest -- who also overseer, leader in the house of Jehovah -- heareth Jeremiah prophesying these things,

2 a nd Pashhur smiteth Jeremiah the prophet, and putteth him unto the stocks, that by the high gate of Benjamin, that by the house of Jehovah.

он велел избить пророка Иеремию и посадить его в колодки у Верхних вениаминовых ворот Господнего дома.

3 a nd it cometh to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur bringeth out Jeremiah from the stocks, and Jeremiah saith unto him, `Not Pashhur hath Jehovah called thy name, but -- Magor-Missabib.

На следующий день, когда Пашхур выпустил его из колодок, Иеремия сказал ему: – Господь назвал тебя не Пашхуром, а Магор-Миссавивом!

4 F or thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am making thee for a fear to thyself, And to all loving thee, And they have fallen by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes are beholding, And all Judah I give into the hand of the king of Babylon, And he hath removed them to Babylon, And he hath smitten them with the sword.

Ведь так говорит Господь: «Я сделаю тебя ужасом самому себе и всем твоим друзьям; ты своими глазами увидишь, как они падут от мечей врагов. Я отдам всю Иудею в руки царя Вавилона, который угонит их в Вавилон или предаст мечу.

5 A nd I have given all the strength of this city, And all its labour, and all its precious things, Yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah I do give into the hand of their enemies, And they have spoiled them, and taken them, And have brought them into Babylon.

Я отдам врагам все достояние этого города: все его доходы, все драгоценности, все сокровища царей Иудеи, и они разграбят их и унесут в Вавилон.

6 A nd thou, Pashhur, and all dwelling in thy house, Do go into captivity. and Babylon thou dost enter, And there thou diest, and there thou art buried, Thou and all loving thee, To whom thou hast prophesied falsely.'

А ты, Пашхур, вместе со всеми, кто живет в твоем доме, отправишься в плен в Вавилон. Там ты умрешь, там тебя и похоронят – и тебя, и всех твоих друзей, которым ты пророчествовал ложь». Отчаяние Иеремии

7 T hou hast persuaded me, O Jehovah, and I am persuaded; Thou hast hardened me, and dost prevail, I have been for a laughter all the day, Every one is mocking at me,

Господи, Ты уговаривал меня, и я уговорен; Ты сильнее и одолел меня. Надо мною смеются весь день; всякий меня высмеивает.

8 B ecause from the time I speak I cry out, `Violence and destruction,' I cry, For the word of Jehovah hath been to me For reproach and for derision all the day.

Лишь начну говорить, – кричу, возвещая зверства и разрушения. Принесло мне слово Господне ежедневные издевательства и насмешки.

9 A nd I said, `I do not mention Him, Nor do I speak any more in His name,' And it hath been in my heart As a burning fire shut up in my bones, And I have been weary of containing, And I am not able.

И сказал я: «Не стану о Нем вспоминать и не буду впредь говорить во Имя Его», – но Его слово, как огонь, жжет мне сердце, как огонь, заключенный в моих костях. Я устал его сдерживать, не могу.

10 F or I have heard the evil report of many, Fear round about: `Declare, and we declare it,' All mine allies are watching my halting, `Perhaps he is enticed, and we prevail over him, And we take our vengeance out of him.'

Слышу, как многие шепчут: «Ужас со всех сторон! Заявите же на него! Давайте же заявим на него!» Все друзья мои ждут, чтобы я оступился: «Может, поддастся он на обман, и мы его одолеем и отомстим ему».

11 A nd Jehovah with me, as a terrible mighty one, Therefore my persecutors stumble and prevail not, They have been exceedingly ashamed, For they have not acted wisely, Confusion age-during is not forgotten.

Но со мною Господь, словно грозный воин, и мои гонители споткнутся и не одолеют меня. Опозорятся они смертельно, не добившись успеха, никогда не забудется их унижение.

12 A nd, O Jehovah of Hosts, trier of the righteous, Beholder of reins and heart, I do see Thy vengeance out of them, For unto Thee I have revealed my cause.

Господь Сил, испытывающий праведных, и видящий сердце и разум, дай мне увидеть, как Ты отомстишь им, ведь я доверил свое дело Тебе.

13 S ing ye to Jehovah, praise Jehovah, For He hath delivered the soul of the needy From the hand of evil doers.

Пойте Господу! Славьте Господа! Он спасает жизнь бедняка от рук нечестивцев.

14 C ursed the day in which I was born, The day that my mother bare me, Let it not be blessed!

Будь проклят день, когда я родился! День, когда мать родила меня, да не будет благословен!

15 C ursed the man who bore tidings my father, saying, `Born to thee hath been a child -- a male,' Making him very glad!

Будь проклят тот, кто известил отца: «У тебя родился сын!» – и привел его в ликование.

16 T hen hath that man been as the cities, That Jehovah overthrew, and repented not, And he hath heard a cry at morning, And a shout at time of noon.

Пусть уподобится тот человек городам, которые Господь разрушил без жалости. Пусть слышит он утром плач, а в полдень – боевой клич,

17 B ecause he hath not put me to death from the womb, And my mother is to me -- my grave, And her womb a pregnancy age-during.

за то, что во чреве меня не убил, чтобы стала мне мать могилой, чтобы чрево осталось беременным вовеки.

18 W hy this? from the womb I have come out, To see labour and sorrow, Yea, consumed in shame are my days!

Для чего я вышел из чрева? Смотреть на беду и муки и в позоре окончить дни?
