1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, come up hath Sennacherib king of Asshur against all the fenced cities of Judah, and seizeth them.

Aconteció en el año catorce del rey Ezequías, que Senaquerib rey de Asiria subió contra todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y las tomó.

2 A nd the king of Asshur sendeth Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, unto the king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, and he standeth by the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller's field,

Y el rey de Asiria envió al Rabsacés con un gran ejército desde Laquís a Jerusalén contra el rey Ezequías; y acampó junto al acueducto del estanque de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del Batanero.

3 a nd go forth unto him doth Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer.

Y salió a él Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, el mayordomo, y Sebná, el escriba, y Joá hijo de Asaf, el canciller,

4 A nd Rabshakeh saith unto them, `Say ye, I pray you, unto Hezekiah, `Thus said the great king, the king of Asshur, What this confidence in which thou hast confided?

a los cuales dijo el Rabsacés: Decid ahora a Ezequías: El gran rey, el rey de Asiria, dice así: ¿Qué confianza es ésta en que te apoyas?

5 I have said: Only, a word of the lips! counsel and might for battle: now, on whom hast thou trusted, that thou hast rebelled against me?

Yo digo que el consejo y el poderío son para la guerra; lo que tú hablas no son más que palabras vacías. Ahora bien, ¿en quién confías para que te rebeles contra mí?

6 ` Lo, thou hast trusted on the staff of this broken reed -- on Egypt -- which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it -- so Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

He aquí que confías en este bastón de caña frágil, en Egipto, en el cual, si alguien se apoya, se le entrará por la mano, y la atravesará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto para con todos los que en él confían.

7 ` And dost thou say unto me, Unto Jehovah our God we have trusted? is it not He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath turned aside, and saith to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar ye do bow yourselves?

Y si me decís: En Jehová nuestro Dios confiamos; ¿no es éste aquel cuyos lugares altos y cuyos altares hizo quitar Ezequías, y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis?

8 ` And now, negotiate, I pray thee, with my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to thee two thousand horses, if thou art able to put for thee riders on them.

Ahora, pues, yo te ruego que canjees garantías con el rey de Asiria mi señor; yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes dar jinetes que cabalguen sobre ellos.

9 A nd how dost thou turn back the face of one captain of the least of the servants of my lord, and dost trust for thee on Egypt, for chariot and for horsemen?

¿Cómo, pues, podrás resistir a un capitán, aun al menor de los siervos de mi señor? No obstante, tú estás confiado en Egipto con sus carros y su gente de a caballo.

10 A nd now, without Jehovah have I come up against this land to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up unto this land, and thou hast destroyed it.'

¿Acaso vine yo ahora a esta tierra para destruirla sin permiso de Jehová? Jehová me dijo: Sube a esta tierra y destrúyela.

11 A nd Eliakim saith -- and Shebna and Joah -- unto Rabshakeh, `Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants Aramaean, for we are understanding; and do not speak unto us Jewish, in the ears of the people who on the wall.'

Entonces dijeron Eliaquim, Sebná y Joá al Rabsacés: Te rogamos que hables a tus siervos en arameo, porque nosotros lo entendemos; y no hables con nosotros en lengua de Judá, a los oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.

12 A nd Rabshakeh saith, `Unto thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men -- those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water with you?'

Y dijo el Rabsacés: ¿Acaso me envió mi señor a que dijese estas palabras sólo a ti y a tu señor, y no a los hombres que están sobre el muro, condenados a comer su estiércol y beber su orina con vosotros?

13 A nd Rabshakeh standeth and calleth with a great voice Jewish, and saith, `Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Asshur:

Entonces el Rabsacés se puso en pie y gritó a gran voz en lengua de Judá, diciendo: Oíd las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

14 T hus said the king, Let not Hezekiah lift you up, for he is not able to deliver you;

El rey dice así: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar.

15 a nd let not Hezekiah make you trust unto Jehovah, saying, Jehovah doth certainly deliver us, this city is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

Ni os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente Jehová nos librará; no será entregada esta ciudad en manos del rey de Asiria.

16 ` Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make ye with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat ye each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink ye each the waters of his own well,

No escuchéis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced las paces conmigo, y salid a mí; y coma cada uno de su viña, y cada uno de su higuera, y beba cada cual las aguas de su propia cisterna,

17 t ill my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards;

hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas.

18 l est Hezekiah doth persuade you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us. `Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?

Mirad que no os engañe Ezequías diciendo: Jehová nos librará. ¿Acaso libraron los dioses de las naciones, cada uno a su tierra, de la mano del rey de Asiria?

19 W here the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where the gods of Sepharvaim, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand?

¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde están los dioses de Sefarváyim? ¿Libraron a Samaria de mi mano?

20 W ho among all the gods of these lands they who have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah doth deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'

¿Qué dios hay entre los dioses de estas tierras que haya librado a su tierra de mi mano, para que Jehová libre de mi mano a Jerusalén?

21 A nd they keep silent, and have not answered him a word, for a command of the king is, saying, `Do not answer him.'

Pero ellos callaron, y no le respondieron palabra; porque el rey así lo había mandado, diciendo: No le respondáis.

22 A nd Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of Rabshakeh.

Entonces Eliaquim hijo de Hilcías, el mayordomo, y Sebná el escriba, y Joá hijo de Asaf, el canciller, vinieron a Ezequías, rasgados sus vestidos, y le contaron las palabras del Rabsacés.
