1 A s many as are servants under a yoke, their own masters worthy of all honour let them reckon, that the name of God and the teaching may not be evil spoken of;

Todos los que están bajo el yugo como esclavos, tengan a sus propios amos por dignos de todo honor, para que no sea blasfemado el nombre de Dios y la doctrina.

2 a nd those having believing masters, let them not slight, because they are brethren, but rather let them serve, because they are stedfast and beloved, who of the benefit are partaking. These things be teaching and exhorting;

Y los que tienen amos creyentes, no los tengan en menos por ser hermanos, sino sírvanles mejor, por cuanto son creyentes y amados los que se benefician de su buen servicio. Esto enseña y exhorta. Contra la vanidad y la avaricia

3 i f any one be teaching otherwise, and do not consent to sound words -- those of our Lord Jesus Christ -- and to the teaching according to piety,

Si alguno enseña otra cosa, y no se conforma a las sanas palabras, las de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y a la doctrina que es conforme a la piedad,

4 h e is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and word-striving, out of which doth come envy, strife, evil-speakings, evil-surmisings,

está envanecido, nada entiende, y delira acerca de cuestiones y contiendas de palabras, de las cuales nacen envidias, pleitos, blasfemias, malas sospechas,

5 w ranglings of men wholly corrupted in mind, and destitute of the truth, supposing the piety to be gain; depart from such;

y constantes rencillas de hombres corruptos de entendimiento y privados de la verdad, que suponen que la piedad es una fuente de ganancia; apártate de los tales.

6 b ut it is great gain -- the piety with contentment;

Pero gran fuente de ganancia es la piedad acompañada de contentamiento;

7 f or nothing did we bring into the world -- manifest that we are able to carry nothing out;

porque nada hemos traído a este mundo, y sin duda nada podremos sacar.

8 b ut having food and raiment -- with these we shall suffice ourselves;

Así que, teniendo sustento y abrigo, estemos contentos con esto.

9 a nd those wishing to be rich, do fall into temptation and a snare, and many desires, foolish and hurtful, that sink men into ruin and destruction,

Porque los que quieren enriquecerse caen en tentación y lazo, y en muchas codicias necias y dañosas, que hunden a los hombres en ruina y perdición;

10 f or a root of all the evils is the love of money, which certain longing for did go astray from the faith, and themselves did pierce through with many sorrows;

porque raíz de todos los males es el amor al dinero, el cual codiciando algunos, se extraviaron de la fe, y se traspasaron a sí mismos con muchos dolores. La buena batalla de la fe

11 a nd thou, O man of God, these things flee, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness;

Mas tú, oh hombre de Dios, huye de estas cosas, y sigue la justicia, la piedad, la fe, el amor, la paciencia, la mansedumbre.

12 b e striving the good strife of the faith, be laying hold on the life age-during, to which also thou wast called, and didst profess the right profession before many witnesses.

Pelea la buena batalla de la fe, echa mano de la vida eterna, a la cual asimismo fuiste llamado, y de la que hiciste buena profesión delante de muchos testigos.

13 I charge thee, before God, who is making all things alive, and of Christ Jesus, who did testify before Pontius Pilate the right profession,

Te mando delante de Dios, que da vida a todas las cosas, y de Jesucristo, que dio testimonio de la buena profesión delante de Poncio Pilato,

14 t hat thou keep the command unspotted, unblameable, till the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

que guardes el mandamiento sin mácula ni reprensión, hasta la aparición de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

15 w hich in His own times He shall shew -- the blessed and only potentate, the King of the kings and Lord of the lords,

la cual a su debido tiempo mostrará el bienaventurado y único Soberano, Rey de reyes, y Señor de los que gobiernan,

16 w ho only is having immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable, whom no one of men did see, nor is able to see, to whom honour and might age-during! Amen.

el único que posee inmortalidad, que habita en luz inaccesible; a quien ninguno de los hombres ha visto ni puede ver, al cual sea la honra y el dominio sempiterno. Amén.

17 T hose rich in the present age charge thou not to be high-minded, nor to hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, who is giving to us all things richly for enjoyment; --

A los ricos de este siglo manda que no sean altivos, ni pongan la esperanza en la incertidumbre de las riquezas, sino en el Dios vivo, que nos ofrece todas las cosas en abundancia para que las disfrutemos.

18 t o do good, to be rich in good works, to be ready to impart, willing to communicate,

Que hagan el bien, que sean ricos en buenas obras, dadivosos, prontos a compartir;

19 t reasuring up to themselves a right foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on the life age-during.

atesorando para sí buen fundamento para lo por venir, que echen mano de la que realmente es vida eterna. Encargo final de Pablo a Timoteo

20 O Timotheus, the thing entrusted guard thou, avoiding the profane vain-words and opposition of the falsely-named knowledge,

Oh Timoteo, guarda lo que se te ha encomendado, evitando las profanas pláticas sobre cosas vanas, y los argumentos de la falsamente llamada ciencia,

21 w hich certain professing -- concerning the faith did swerve; the grace with you. Amen.

la cual profesando algunos, se desviaron de la fe. La gracia sea contigo. Amén.
