1 T hus hath the Lord Jehovah shewed me, and, lo, a basket of summer-fruit.

Esto me ha mostrado el Señor Jehová: He aquí un canastillo de fruta madura.

2 A nd He saith, `What art thou seeing, Amos?' and I say, `A basket of summer-fruit.' And Jehovah saith unto me: `The end hath come unto My people Israel, I do not add any more to pass over to it.

Y dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Y respondí: Un canastillo de fruta madura. Y me dijo Jehová: Ha llegado el fin sobre mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré ya más.

3 A nd howled have songstresses of a palace in that day, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Many the carcases, into any place throw -- hush!

Y los cantos del templo se convertirán en aullidos en aquel día, dice el Señor Jehová; muchos serán los cadáveres; los echarán fuera en silencio, en cualquier lugar. Hambre de la Palabra de Dios

4 H ear this, ye who are swallowing up the needy, To cause to cease the poor of the land,

Oíd esto, los que explotáis a los menesterosos, y arruináis a los pobres de la tierra,

5 S aying, When doth the new moon pass, And we sell ground corn? And the sabbath, and we open out pure corn? To make little the ephah, And to make great the shekel, And to use perversely balances of deceit.

diciendo: ¿Cuándo pasará el mes, y venderemos el trigo; y la semana, y abriremos los graneros del pan, y achicaremos la medida, y subiremos el precio, y falsearemos con engaño la balanza,

6 T o purchase with money the poor, And the needy for a pair of sandals, Yea, the refuse of the pure corn we sell.

para comprar a los pobres por dinero, y a los necesitados por un par de sandalias, y venderemos los desechos del trigo?

7 S worn hath Jehovah by the excellency of Jacob: `I forget not for ever any of their works.

Jehová juró por la gloria de Jacob: No me olvidaré jamás de todas sus obras.

8 F or this doth not the land tremble, And mourned hath every dweller in it? And come up as a flood hath all of it. And it hath been cast out, and hath sunk, Like the flood of Egypt.

¿No se estremecerá la tierra sobre esto? ¿No hará duelo todo habitante de ella? Subirá toda, como un río, y crecerá y mermará como el río de Egipto.

9 A nd it hath come to pass in that day, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, I have caused the sun to go in at noon, And caused darkness on the land in a day of light,

Acontecerá en aquel día, dice Jehová el Señor, que haré que se ponga el sol a mediodía, y cubriré de tinieblas la tierra en el día claro.

10 A nd have turned your festivals to mourning, And all your songs to lamentation, And caused sackcloth to come up on all loins, And on every head -- baldness, And made it as a mourning an only one, And its latter end as a day of bitterness.

Y cambiaré vuestras fiestas en llanto, y todos vuestros cantares en lamentaciones; y haré poner cilicio sobre todo lomo, y que se rape toda cabeza; y la volveré como en duelo por el unigénito, y su postrimería será como día aciago.

11 L o, days are coming, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, And I have sent a famine into the land, Not a famine of bread, nor a thirst of water But of hearing the words of Jehovah.

He aquí que vienen días, dice el Señor Jehová, en los cuales enviaré hambre a la tierra, no hambre de pan, ni sed de agua, sino de oír la palabra de Jehová.

12 A nd they have wandered from sea unto sea, And from north even unto east, They go to and fro to seek the word of Jehovah, And they do not find.

E irán errantes de mar a mar; desde el norte hasta el oriente irán buscando palabra de Jehová, y no la hallarán.

13 I n that day faint do the fair virgins, And the young men, with thirst.

En aquel tiempo las doncellas hermosas y los jóvenes desmayarán de sed.

14 T hose swearing by the guilt of Samaria, And have said, Live doth thy god, O Dan, And, Live doth the way of Beer-Sheba, And they have fallen -- and rise not again!'

Los que juran por el pecado de Samaria, y dicen: Por tu Dios, oh Dan, y: Por el camino de Beerseba, caerán, y nunca más se levantarán.
