1 I say, then, Did God cast away His people? let it not be! for I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin:

Digo, pues: ¿Acaso ha desechado Dios a su pueblo? ¡En ninguna manera! Porque también yo soy israelita, de la descendencia de Abraham, de la tribu de Benjamín.

2 G od did not cast away His people whom He knew before; have ye not known -- in Elijah -- what the Writing saith? how he doth plead with God concerning Israel, saying,

Dios no ha desechado a su pueblo, al cual conoció de antemano. ¿O no sabéis qué dice de Elías la Escritura, cómo invoca a Dios contra Israel, diciendo:

3 ` Lord, Thy prophets they did kill, and Thy altars they dug down, and I was left alone, and they seek my life;'

Señor, han dado muerte a tus profetas, y han derribado tus altares; y sólo yo he quedado, y procuran matarme?

4 b ut what saith the divine answer to him? `I left to Myself seven thousand men, who did not bow a knee to Baal.'

Pero ¿qué le dice la respuesta divina? Me he reservado siete mil hombres, que no han doblado la rodilla ante Baal.

5 S o then also in the present time a remnant according to the choice of grace there hath been;

Pues bien, del mismo modo, también en este tiempo ha quedado un remanente conforme a la elección de la gracia.

6 a nd if by grace, no more of works, otherwise the grace becometh no more grace; and if of works, it is no more grace, otherwise the work is no more work.

Y si por gracia, ya no es a base de obras; de otra manera, la gracia ya no es gracia. Y si por obras, ya no es gracia; de otra manera, la obra ya no es obra.

7 W hat then? What Israel doth seek after, this it did not obtain, and the chosen did obtain, and the rest were hardened,

¿Qué, pues? Lo que buscaba Israel, no lo ha alcanzado; pero los escogidos sí lo han alcanzado, y los demás fueron endurecidos;

8 a ccording as it hath been written, `God gave to them a spirit of deep sleep, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear,' -- unto this very day,

como está escrito: Dios les dio espíritu de sopor, ojos con que no vean y oídos con que no oigan, hasta el día de hoy.

9 a nd David saith, `Let their table become for a snare, and for a trap, and for a stumbling-block, and for a recompense to them;

Y David dice: Conviértase su mesa en trampa y en red, En tropezadero y en retribución;

10 l et their eyes be darkened -- not to behold, and their back do Thou always bow down.'

Sean oscurecidos sus ojos para que no vean, Y agóbieles la espalda para siempre. La salvación de los gentiles

11 I say, then, Did they stumble that they might fall? let it not be! but by their fall the salvation to the nations, to arouse them to jealousy;

Digo, entonces: ¿Acaso han tropezado los de Israel para quedar caídos? ¡En ninguna manera! Pero con su caída vino la salvación a los gentiles, para provocarles a celos.

12 a nd if the fall of them the riches of a world, and the diminution of them the riches of nations, how much more the fulness of them?

Y si su caída es la riqueza del mundo, y su fracaso la riqueza de los gentiles, ¿cuánto más su plena restauración?

13 F or to you I speak -- to the nations -- inasmuch as I am indeed an apostle of nations, my ministration I do glorify;

Porque a vosotros os digo, gentiles: Por cuanto yo soy apóstol de los gentiles, honro mi ministerio,

14 i f by any means I shall arouse to jealousy mine own flesh, and shall save some of them,

por si en alguna manera pueda provocar a celos a los de mi sangre, y hacer salvos a algunos de ellos.

15 f or if the casting away of them a reconciliation of the world, what the reception -- if not life out of the dead?

Porque si su exclusión es la reconciliación del mundo, ¿qué será su admisión, sino vida de entre los muertos?

16 a nd if the first-fruit holy, the lump also; and if the root holy, the branches also.

Si las primicias son santas, también lo es la masa restante; y si la raíz es santa, también lo son las ramas.

17 A nd if certain of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wast graffed in among them, and a fellow-partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree didst become --

Pero si algunas de las ramas fueron desgajadas, y tú, siendo olivo silvestre, has sido injertado entre ellas, y has sido hecho participante con ellas de la raíz y de la rica savia del olivo,

18 d o not boast against the branches; and if thou dost boast, thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee!

no te jactes contra las ramas; y si te jactas, sabe que no sustentas tú a la raíz, sino la raíz a ti.

19 T hou wilt say, then, `The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in;' right!

Dirás entonces: Las ramas fueron desgajadas para que yo fuese injertado.

20 b y unbelief they were broken off, and thou hast stood by faith; be not high-minded, but be fearing;

Bien; por su incredulidad fueron desgajadas, pero tú por la fe estás en pie. No te ensoberbezcas, sino teme.

21 f or if God the natural branches did not spare -- lest perhaps He also shall not spare thee.

Porque si Dios no perdonó a las ramas naturales, a ti tampoco te eximirá.

22 L o, then, goodness and severity of God -- upon those indeed who fell, severity; and upon thee, goodness, if thou mayest remain in the goodness, otherwise, thou also shalt be cut off.

Mira, pues, la benignidad y la severidad de Dios; la severidad ciertamente para con los que cayeron, pero la benignidad para contigo, si permaneces en esa benignidad; pues de otra manera, tú también serás cortado.

23 A nd those also, if they may not remain in unbelief, shall be graffed in, for God is able again to graff them in;

Y aun ellos, si no permanecen en incredulidad, serán injertados, pues poderoso es Dios para volverlos a injertar.

24 f or if thou, out of the olive tree, wild by nature, wast cut out, and, contrary to nature, wast graffed into a good olive tree, how much rather shall they, who according to nature, be graffed into their own olive tree?

Porque si tú fuiste cortado del que por naturaleza es olivo silvestre, y contra naturaleza fuiste injertado en el buen olivo, ¿cuánto más éstos, que son las ramas naturales, serán injertados en su propio olivo? La salvación de Israel al final de los tiempos

25 F or I do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of this secret -- that ye may not be wise in your own conceits -- that hardness in part to Israel hath happened till the fulness of the nations may come in;

Porque no quiero, hermanos, que ignoréis este misterio, para que no os tengáis por sensatos en vuestra propia opinión: que ha acontecido a Israel endurecimiento en parte, hasta que haya entrado la plenitud de los gentiles;

26 a nd so all Israel shall be saved, according as it hath been written, `There shall come forth out of Sion he who is delivering, and he shall turn away impiety from Jacob,

y así todo Israel será salvo, como está escrito: Vendrá de Sión el Libertador, Que apartará de Jacob la impiedad.

27 a nd this to them the covenant from Me, when I may take away their sins.'

Y éste será mi pacto con ellos, Cuando yo quite sus pecados.

28 A s regards, indeed, the good tidings, enemies on your account; and as regards the choice -- beloved on account of the fathers;

Por lo que atañe al evangelio, son enemigos por causa de vosotros; pero en cuanto a la elección, son amados por causa de los padres.

29 f or unrepented of the gifts and the calling of God;

Porque los dones y el llamamiento de Dios son irrevocables.

30 f or as ye also once did not believe in God, and now did find kindness by the unbelief of these:

Pues como vosotros también en otro tiempo erais desobedientes a Dios, pero ahora habéis alcanzado misericordia por la desobediencia de ellos,

31 s o also these now did not believe, that in your kindness they also may find kindness;

así también éstos ahora han sido desobedientes, para que por la misericordia concedida a vosotros, ellos también alcancen misericordia.

32 f or God did shut up together the whole to unbelief, that to the whole He might do kindness.

Porque Dios encerró a todos en desobediencia, para tener misericordia de todos.

33 O depth of riches, and wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable His judgments, and untraceable His ways!

¡Oh profundidad de las riquezas de la sabiduría y del conocimiento de Dios! ¡Cuán inescrutables son sus juicios, e insondables sus caminos!

34 f or who did know the mind of the Lord? or who did become His counsellor?

Porque ¿quién penetró en el pensamiento del Señor? ¿O quién fue su consejero?

35 o r who did first give to Him, and it shall be given back to him again?

¿O quién le dio a él primero, para que le fuese recompensado?

36 b ecause of Him, and through Him, and to Him the all things; to Him the glory -- to the ages. Amen.

Porque de él, y por él, y para él, son todas las cosas. A él sea la gloria por los siglos. Amén.
