1 M y son! my law forget not, And my commands let thy heart keep,

Hijo mío, no te olvides de mi enseñanza, Y tu corazón guarde mis mandamientos;

2 F or length of days and years, Life and peace they do add to thee.

Porque te añadirán largura de días y años de vida y paz.

3 L et not kindness and truth forsake thee, Bind them on thy neck, Write them on the tablet of thy heart,

Nunca se aparten de ti la misericordia y la verdad; Átalas a tu cuello, Escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón;

4 A nd find grace and good understanding In the eyes of God and man.

Y hallarás gracia y buena opinión Ante los ojos de Dios y de los hombres.

5 T rust unto Jehovah with all thy heart, And unto thine own understanding lean not.

Fíate de Jehová con todo tu corazón, Y no te apoyes en tu propia prudencia.

6 I n all thy ways know thou Him, And He doth make straight thy paths.

Reconócele en todos tus caminos, Y él enderezará tus veredas.

7 B e not wise in thine own eyes, Fear Jehovah, and turn aside from evil.

No seas sabio en tu propia opinión; Teme a Jehová, y apártate del mal;

8 H ealing it is to thy navel, And moistening to thy bones.

Porque será medicina para tu cuerpo, Y refrigerio para tus huesos.

9 H onour Jehovah from thy substance, And from the beginning of all thine increase;

Honra a Jehová con tus bienes, Y con las primicias de todos tus frutos;

10 A nd filled are thy barns plenty, And new wine thy presses break forth.

Y serán llenos tus graneros con abundancia, Y tus lagares rebosarán de mosto.

11 C hastisement of Jehovah, my son, despise not, And be not vexed with His reproof,

No menosprecies, hijo mío, la reprensión de Jehová, Ni te fatigues de su corrección;

12 F or whom Jehovah loveth He reproveth, Even as a father the son He is pleased with.

Porque Jehová al que ama reprende, Como el padre al hijo a quien quiere.

13 O the happiness of a man hath found wisdom, And of a man bringeth forth understanding.

Dichoso el hombre que halla la sabiduría, Y que obtiene la inteligencia;

14 F or better her merchandise Than the merchandise of silver, And than gold -- her increase.

Porque su ganancia es mejor que la ganancia de la plata, Y sus rentas mayores que las del oro fino.

15 P recious she above rubies, And all thy pleasures are not comparable to her.

Más valiosa es que las piedras preciosas; Y todo lo que puedes desear, no se puede comparar a ella.

16 L ength of days in her right hand, In her left wealth and honour.

Largura de días hay en su mano derecha; En su izquierda, riquezas y honra.

17 H er ways ways of pleasantness, And all her paths peace.

Sus caminos son caminos deleitosos, Y todas sus veredas paz.

18 A tree of life she to those laying hold on her, And whoso is retaining her happy.

Ella es árbol de vida para los que de ella echan mano, Y son dichosos los que la retienen.

19 J ehovah by wisdom did found the earth, He prepared the heavens by understanding.

Jehová fundó la tierra con la sabiduría; Consolidó los cielos con inteligencia.

20 B y His knowledge depths have been rent, And clouds do drop dew.

Con su ciencia fueron abiertos los abismos, Y destilan rocío los cielos.

21 M y son! let them not turn from thine eyes, Keep thou wisdom and thoughtfulness,

Hijo mío, no se aparten estas cosas de tus ojos; Guarda la prudencia y la reflexión,

22 A nd they are life to thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

Y serán vida para tu alma, Y gracia para tu cuello.

23 T hen thou goest thy way confidently, And thy foot doth not stumble.

Entonces andarás por tu camino confiadamente, Y tu pie no tropezará.

24 I f thou liest down, thou art not afraid, Yea, thou hast lain down, And sweet hath been thy sleep.

Cuando te acuestes, no tendrás temor, Sino que te acostarás, y tu sueño será grato.

25 B e not afraid of sudden fear, And of the desolation of the wicked when it cometh.

No tendrás temor de pavor repentino, Ni de la ruina que sobreviene a los impíos.

26 F or Jehovah is at thy side, And He hath kept thy foot from capture.

Porque Jehová será tu confianza, Y él preservará tu pie de caer en la trampa.

27 W ithhold not good from its owners, When thy hand toward God to do.

No te niegues a hacer el bien a quien es debido, Cuando esté a tu alcance el hacerlo.

28 S ay not thou to thy friend, `Go, and return, and to-morrow I give,' And substance with thee.

No digas a tu prójimo: Anda, y vuelve, Y mañana te daré, Cuando tienes contigo qué darle.

29 D evise not against thy neighbour evil, And he sitting confidently with thee.

No intentes mal contra tu prójimo Mientras habita confiado junto a ti.

30 S trive not with a man without cause, If he have not done thee evil.

No tengas pleito con nadie sin motivo, Si no te han hecho agravio.

31 B e not envious of a man of violence, Nor fix thou on any of his ways.

No envidies al hombre injusto, Ni escojas ninguno de sus caminos.

32 F or an abomination to Jehovah the perverted, And with the upright His secret counsel.

Porque Jehová abomina al perverso; Pero tiene sus intimidades con los rectos.

33 T he curse of Jehovah in the house of the wicked. And the habitation of the righteous He blesseth.

La maldición de Jehová está sobre la casa del impío, Pero él bendice la morada de los justos.

34 I f the scorners He doth scorn, Yet to the humble He doth give grace.

Ciertamente él escarnece a los escarnecedores, Y a los humildes concede su favor.

35 H onour do the wise inherit, And fools are bearing away shame!

Los sabios heredarán honra, Mas los insensatos recibirán ignominia.
