1 A nd the Canaanite -- king Arad -- dwelling in the south, heareth that Israel hath come the way of the Atharim, and he fighteth against Israel, and taketh of them captive.

وَسَمِعَ عَرادُ، المَلِكُ الكَنعانِيُّ الَّذِي كانَ يَسكُنُ فِي النَّقَبِ أنَّ إسْرائِيلَ كانَ آتِياً فِي طَرِيقِ أتارِيمَ، فَحارَبَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ وَسَبَى بَعضاً مِنْهُمْ.

2 A nd Israel voweth a vow to Jehovah, and saith, `If Thou dost certainly give this people into my hand, then I have devoted their cities;'

فَنَذَرَ إسْرائِيلُ نَذراً خاصّاً للهِ ، فَقالَ: «إنْ ساعَدْتَنا فِي هَزِيمَةِ هَذا الشَّعبِ، فَسَنُدَمِّرُ مُدُنَهُمْ تَماماً.»

3 a nd Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Israel, and giveth up the Canaanite, and he devoteth them and their cities, and calleth the name of the place Hormah.

وَسَمِعَ اللهُ لِصَوتِ إسْرائِيلَ وَساعَدَهُمْ فِي هَزِيمَةِ الكَنعانِيِّينَ، فَقَضَوْا عَلَيهِمْ وَدَمَّرُوا مُدُنَهُمْ بِالكامِلِ. وَلِذا دَعُوا اسْمَ المَكانِ حُرْمَةَ. الحَيَّةُ البُرونْزِيَّة

4 A nd they journey from mount Hor, the way of the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom, and the soul of the people is short in the way,

ثُمَّ تَرَكُوا جَبَلَ هُورَ فِي الطَّرِيقِ إلَى البَحرِ الأحمَرِ لِيَدُورُوا حَولَ أرْضِ أدُومَ. فَتَضايَقَ الشَّعبُ جِدّاً فِي الطَّرِيقِ،

5 a nd the people speak against God, and against Moses, `Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to die in a wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water, and our soul hath been weary of this light bread.'

وَبَدَأوا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ ضِدَّ اللهِ وَمُوسَى: «لِماذا جَعَلْتُمانا نَترُكُ مِصرَ لِنَمُوتَ فِي الصَّحْراءِ؟ فَلَيسَ هُناكَ خُبزٌ أوْ ماءٌ فِي هَذا المَكانِ، وَقَدْ مَلَلْنا هَذا الطَّعامَ السَّخِيفَ.»

6 A nd Jehovah sendeth among the people the burning serpents, and they bite the people, and much people of Israel die;

فَأرسَلَ اللهُ حَيّاتٍ سامَّةً إلَى الشَّعبِ، فَلَدَغَتْهُمْ. وَماتَ كَثِيرُونَ مِنْ بَني إسْرائِيلَ.

7 a nd the people come in unto Moses and say, `We have sinned, for we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, and He doth turn aside from us the serpent;' and Moses prayeth in behalf of the people.

وَلِذا أتَى الشَّعبُ إلَى مُوسَى وَقالُوا: «لَقَدْ أخطَأْنا بِتَكَلّمِنا ضِدَّ اللهِ وَضِدَّكَ. صَلِّ إلَى اللهِ أنْ يَأخُذَ الحَيّاتِ بَعِيداً عَنّا.» فَصَلَّى مُوسَى لأجلِ الشَّعبِ.

8 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Make for thee a burning, and set it on an ensign; and it hath been, every one who is bitten and hath seen it -- he hath lived.

فَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «اصنَعْ حَيَّةً نُحاسِيَّةً وَضَعْها عَلَى عَمُودٍ. وَحِينَ يَنظُرُ إلَيها أيُّ شَخصٍ لَدَغَتْهُ حَيَّةٌ فَإنَّهُ سَيُشفَى.»

9 A nd Moses maketh a serpent of brass, and setteth it on the ensign, and it hath been, if the serpent hath bitten any man, and he hath looked expectingly unto the serpent of brass -- he hath lived.

فَصَنَعَ مُوسَى حَيَّةً نُحاسِيَّةً وَعَلَّقَها عَلَى سارِيَةٍ خَشَبِيَّةٍ. فَكانَ كُلُّ مَنْ لَدَغَتْهُ حَيَّةٌ، وَنَظَرَ إلَى الحَيَّةِ البُرونْزِيَّةِ، يُشفَى. الرِّحلَةُ إلَى مُوآب

10 A nd the sons of Israel journey, and encamp in Oboth.

ثُمَّ تَرَكَ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ ذَلِكَ المَكانَ وَخَيَّمُوا فِي أُوبُوتَ.

11 A nd they journey from Oboth, and encamp in Ije-Abarim, in the wilderness that on the front of Moab, at the rising of the sun.

ثُمَّ تَرَكُوا أُوبُوتَ وَخَيَّمُوا فِي عَيِّي عَبارِيمَ فِي الصَّحْراءِ عَلَى حَدِّ مُوآبَ إلَى الشَّرقِ مِنها.

12 F rom thence they have journeyed, and encamp in the valley of Zared.

وَتَرَكُوا ذَلِكَ المَكانَ وَخَيَّمُوا فِي وادِي زارَدَ.

13 F rom thence they have journeyed, and encamp beyond Arnon, which in the wilderness which is coming out of the border of the Amorite, for Arnon the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorite;

وَتَرَكُوا ذَلِكَ المَكانَ وَخَيَّمُوا عَلَى ضِفَّةِ نَهرِ أرنُونَ فِي الصَّحْراءِ المُمتَدَّةِ مِنْ أرْضِ الأمُورِيِّينَ – فَنَهرُ أرْنُونَ هُوَ الحَدُّ الفاصِلُ بَينَ مُوآبَ وَأرْضِ الأمُورِيِّينَ.

14 t herefore it is said in a book, `The wars of Jehovah,' -- `Waheb in Suphah, And the brooks of Arnon;

وَيُوصَفُ هَذا فِي كِتابِ حُرُوبِ اللهِ كَما يَلِي: «… وَاهِبٌ فِي سُوفَةَ وَأودِيَةِ أرنُونَ،

15 A nd the spring of the brooks, Which turned aside to the dwelling of Ar, And hath leaned to the border of Moab.'

وَمُنحَدَراتُ أودِيَتِهِ تُؤَدِّي إلَى مَساكِنِ عارَ وَتَقَعُ عَلَى حُدُودِ مُوآبَ.»

16 A nd from thence to Beer; it the well which Jehovah said to Moses, `Gather the people, and I give to them -- water.'

وَمِنْ هُناكَ ذَهَبُوا إلَى مِنْطَقَةِ بِيْرَ، حَيْثُ البِئْرُ الَّتِي قالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى عَنْها: «اجمَعِ الشَّعبَ هُناكَ، وَأنا سَأُعطِيهِمْ ماءً.»

17 T hen singeth Israel this song, concerning the well -- they have answered to it:

ثُمَّ رَنَّمَ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ هَذِهِ التَّرنِيمَةَ: «تَدَفَّقِي بِالماءِ أيَّتُها البِئْرُ. رَنِّمُوا لَها.

18 ` A well -- digged it have princes, Prepared it have nobles of the people, With the lawgiver, with their staves.' And from the wilderness to Mattanah,

البِئْرُ الَّتِي حَفَرَها عُظَماءُ الشَّعبِ، الَّتِي بَدَأ قادَةُ الشَّعبِ بِحَفرِها، بِصَولَجاناتِهِمْ وَعِصِيِّهِمْ.» ثُمَّ تَرَكُوا تِلْكَ الصَّحْراءَ وَأتَوا إلَى مَتّانَةَ.

19 a nd from Mattanah to Nahaliel, and from Nahaliel to Bamoth,

وَمِنْ مَتّانَةَ أتَوا إلَى نَحلِيئِيلَ. وَمِنْ نَحلِيئِيلَ أتَوا إلَى بامُوتَ.

20 a nd from Bamoth in the valley which in the field of Moab the top of Pisgah, which hath looked on the front of the wilderness.

وَمِنْ بامُوتَ أتَوا إلَى الوادِي الَّذِيِ فِي مِنْطَقَةِ مُوآبَ عَلَى قِمَّةِ جَبَلِ الفِسْجَةِ الَّذِي يُشرِفُ عَلَى الصَّحْراءِ. سِيحُونُ وَعُوج

21 A nd Israel sendeth messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorite, saying,

وَأرسَلَ إسْرائِيلُ رُسُلاً إلَى المَلِكِ سِيحُونَ مَلِكِ الأمُورِيِّينَ فَقالَ:

22 ` Let me pass through thy land, we do not turn aside into a field, or into a vineyard, we do not drink waters of a well; in the king's way we go, till that we pass over thy border.'

«اسْمَحْ لَنا بِالمُرُورِ فِي بَلَدِكَ. وَنَحنُ نَعِدُ بِأنَّنا لَنْ نَمِيلَ إلَى حُقُولِكَ أوْ كُرُومِكَ، وَلَنْ نَشرَبَ ماءً مِنْ بِئرِكَ. سَنَسِيرُ فِي ‹طَرِيقِ المَلِكِ› حَتَّى نَتَجاوَزَ أرْضَكَ.»

23 A nd Sihon hath not suffered Israel to pass through his border, and Sihon gathereth all his people, and cometh out to meet Israel into the wilderness, and cometh in to Jahaz, and fighteth against Israel.

لَكِنَّ سِيحُونَ لَمْ يَسمَحْ لإسْرائِيلَ بِالمُرُورِ فِي أرْضِهِ، بَلْ جَمَعَ كُلَّ شَعبِهِ وَخَرَجَ لِيَلتَقِيَ إسْرائِيلَ فِي الصَّحْراءِ، فَجاءَ إلَى ياهَصَ وَهاجَمَ إسْرائِيلَ.

24 A nd Israel smiteth him by the mouth of the sword, and possesseth his land from Arnon unto Jabbok -- unto the sons of Ammon; for the border of the sons of Ammon strong.

لَكِنَّ إسْرائِيلَ قَتَلُوهُ وَأخَذُوا أرْضَهُ مِنْ نَهرِ أرنُونَ إلَى نَهرِ يَبُّوقَ، وَإلَى حُدُودِ أرْضِ العَمُّونِيِّينَ، لأنَّ حُدُودَ العَمُّونِيِّينَ كانَتْ قَوِيَّةً.

25 A nd Israel taketh all these cities, and Israel dwelleth in all the cities of the Amorite, in Heshbon, and in all its villages;

فَأخَذَ إسْرائِيلُ كُلَّ هَذِهِ المُدُنِ وَسَكَنُوا كُلَّ مُدُنِ الأمُورِيِّينَ تِلكَ، فِي حَشبُونَ وَالمُدُنِ المُحِيطَةِ بِها.

26 f or Heshbon is a city of Sihon king of the Amorite, and he hath fought against the former king of Moab, and taketh all his land out of his hand, unto Arnon;

كانَتْ أدُومُ مَدِينَةَ المَلِكِ الأمُورِيِّ سِيحُونَ. وَكانَ سِيحُونُ قَدْ حارَبَ مَلِكَ مُوآبَ السّابِقَ، وَأخَذَ كُلَّ أرْضِهِ مِنهُ إلَى نَهرِ أرنُونَ.

27 t herefore those using similes say -- `Enter ye Heshbon, Let the city of Sihon be built and ready,

وَلِهَذا يَقُولُ المُغَنُّونَ: «تَعالَوا إلَى حَشبُونَ، فَلْيُعَدْ بِناؤُها. فَلْيُعَدْ بِناءُ مَدِينَةِ حَشْبُونَ.

28 F or fire hath gone out from Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon, It hath consumed Ar of Moab, Owners of the high places of Arnon.

لأنَّ ناراً خَرَجَتْ مِنْ مَدِينَةِ سِيحُونَ، وَلَهِيباً مِنْ مَدِينَةِ سِيحُونَ. أكَلَتِ النّارُ عارَ فِي مُوآبَ، وَالتَهَمَتِ التِّلالَ الَّتِي فَوقَ أرنُونَ.

29 W o to thee, O Moab, Thou hast perished, O people of Chemosh, He hath given his sons who escape -- Also his daughters -- Into captivity, to a king of the Amorite -- Sihon!

وَيلٌ لَكَ يا مُوآبُ. قَدْ تَحَطَّمْتُمْ يا شَعبَ كَمُوشَ. جَعَلَ كَمُوشُ أبْناءَكَ يَهرُبُونَ، وَبَناتِكَ أسِيراتٍ لِسِيحُونَ مَلِكِ الأمُورِيِّينَ.

30 A nd we shoot them, Perished hath Heshbon unto Dibon, And we make desolate unto Nophah, Which unto Medeba.'

وَلَكِنَّنا هَزَمْنا هَؤُلاءِ الأمُورِيِّينَ. دَمَّرْنا مُدُنَهُمْ مِنْ حَشْبُونَ إلَى دِيبُونَ، مِنْ نَشِيمَ إلَى نُوفَحَ، القَرِيبَةِ مِنْ مِيدَبا.»

31 A nd Israel dwelleth in the land of the Amorite,

وَسَكَنَ إسْرائِيلُ فِي أرْضِ الأمُورِيِّينَ.

32 a nd Moses sendeth to spy out Jaazer, and they capture its villages, and dispossess the Amorite who there,

وَأرسَلَ مُوسَى رِجالاً لِيَستَكشِفُوا يَعزِيرَ، فَأخَذُوا المُدُنَ المُحِيطَةَ بِها وَأجبَرُوا الأمُورِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ كانُوا هُناكَ عَلَى تَركِ المِنطَقَةِ.

33 a nd turn and go up the way of Bashan, and Og king of Bashan cometh out to meet them, he and all his people, to battle, Edrei.

ثُمَّ دارَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ وَسارُوا فِي الطَّرِيقِ إلَى باشانَ. فَخَرَجَ عُوجُ مَلِكُ باشانَ إلَى إذرَعِي مَعَ كُلِّ شَعبِهِ لِيُحارِبَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ.

34 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Fear him not, for into thy hand I have given him, and all his people, and his land, and thou hast done to him as thou hast done to Sihon king of the Amorite, who is dwelling in Heshbon.'

وَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «لا تَخَفْ مِنهُ، لأنِّي سَأُسَلِّمُهُ هُوَ وَكُلَّ شَعبِهِ وَكُلَّ أرْضِهِ إلَيكَ. فَافْعَلْ بِهِ كَما فَعَلْتَ بِسِيحُونَ مَلِكِ الأمُورِيِّينَ الَّذِي كانَ يَحْكُمُ فِي حَشبُونَ.»

35 A nd they smite him, and his sons, and all his people, until he hath not left to him a remnant, and they possess his land.

فَقَتَلَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ عُوجَ وَأبناءَهُ وَكُلَّ شَعبِهِ، حَتَّى لَمْ يَبقَ هُناكَ ناجٍ واحِدٌ. ثُمَّ أخَذُوا أرْضَهُ.
