1 A nd all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

وَسافَرَ جَمِيعُ بَني إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ صَحْراءِ سِينَ عَلَى مَراحِلَ، كَما قالَ اللهُ لَهُمْ. وَخَيَّمُوا فِي مَنْطِقَةِ رَفِيدِيمَ، لَكِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ ماءٌ لِيَشرَبُوا.

2 a nd the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

فَتَجادَلَ الشَّعبُ مَعَ مُوسَى، وَقالُوا لَهُ: «أعطِنا ماءً لِنَشرَبَ.» فَقالَ مُوسَى لَهُمْ: «لِماذا تُخاصِمُونَنِي؟ لِماذا تُجَرِّبُونَ صَبرَ اللهِ ؟»

3 a nd the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

لَكِنَّهُمْ عَطِشُوا وَتَذَمَّرُوا عَلَى مُوسَى وَقالُوا: «لِماذا أخرَجْتَنا مِنْ مِصرَ، لِتَقتُلَنا نَحنُ وَأولادَنا وَماشِيَتَنا بِالعَطَشِ؟»

4 A nd Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

فَصَرَخَ مُوسَى إلَى اللهِ وَقالَ: «ماذا أفعَلُ بِهَذا الشَّعبِ؟ إنَّهُمْ يَكادُونَ يَرجُمُونَنِي.»

5 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

وَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «مُرَّ مِنْ أمامِ الشَّعبِ، وَخُذْ مَعكَ بَعضَ شُيُوخِ إسْرائِيلَ. وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ عَصاكَ الَّتِي ضَرَبْتَ بِها نَهْرَ النِّيلَ، وَاذْهَبْ.

6 L o, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

سَأقِفُ أمامَكَ هُناكَ عَلَى صَخرَةِ حُورِيبَ. فَحِينَ تَضرِبُ الصَّخرَةَ، سَيَخرُجُ مِنها ماءٌ لِيَشرَبَ الشَّعبُ.» فَفَعَلَ مُوسَى ذَلِكَ أمامَ شُيُوخِ إسْرائِيلَ.

7 a nd he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

وَدَعا المَكانَ بِاسْمِ «مَسَّةَ وَمَرِيبَةَ» بِسَبَبِ مُخاصَمَةِ بَني إسْرائِيلَ للهِ وَبِسَبَبِ تَجرِبَتِهِمْ لِصَبرِهِ، إذْ قالُوا: «لِنَرَ إنْ كانَ يهوه فِي وَسَطِنا أمْ لا؟» الحربُ مَعَ عمالِيق

8 A nd Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

وَأتَتْ قَبِيلَةُ عَمالِيقَ لِمُحارَبَةِ إسْرائِيلَ فِي رَفِيدِيمَ.

9 a nd Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

فَقالَ مُوسَى لِيَشُوعَ: «اختَرْ رِجالاً، وَاخرُجْ حارِبْ قَبِيلَةَ عَمالِيقَ. وَسَأقِفُ أنا غَداً عَلَى قِمَّةِ التَّلَّةِ وَعَصا اللهِ فِي يَدِي.»

10 A nd Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

فَعَمِلَ يَشُوعُ كَما قالَ مُوسَى لَهُ، فَحارَبَ قَبِيلَةَ عَمالِيقَ. وَصَعِدَ مُوسَى وَهارُونُ وَحُورُ إلَى قِمَّةِ التَّلَّةِ.

11 a nd it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

وَحِينَ كانَ مُوسَى يَرفَعُ يَدَيهِ، كانَ إسْرائِيلُ يَنتَصِرُ. وَحِينَ كانَ يُنزِلُ يَدَيهِ، كانَ عَمالِيقُ يَنتَصِرُ.

12 A nd the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

وَحِينَ تَعِبَتْ يَدا مُوسَى، أخَذَ هارُونُ وَحُورُ حَجَراً وَوَضَعاهُ تَحْتَهُ. فَجَلَسَ مُوسَى عَلَى الحَجَرِ. وَأسْنَدَ هارُونُ وَحُورُ يَدَيهِ، كُلُّ واحِدٍ مِنْ جِهَةٍ. فَظَلَّتْ يَداهُ ثابِتَتَينِ إلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمسِ.

13 a nd Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

وَهَزَمَ يَشُوعُ عَمالِيقَ وَشَعبَهُ بِحَدِّ السَّيفِ.

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

وَقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «اكتُبْ هَذا لِلذِّكرَى فِي كِتابٍ، وَقُلْ عَلَى مَسمَعِ يَشُوعَ: ‹سَأُلاشِي كُلَّ أثَرٍ لِقَبِيلَةِ عَمالِيقَ مِنْ تَحْتِ السَّماءِ.›»

15 a nd Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

وَبَنَى مُوسَى مَذبَحاً، وَدَعاهُ «يهوه رايَتِي.»

16 a nd saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'

وَقالَ: «أرفَعُ يَدَيَّ نَحوَ عَرشِ اللهِ وَأُقسِمُ: سَيُحارِبُ اللهُ قَبِيلَةَ عَمالِيقَ إلَى الأبَدِ.»
