1 A nd all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

Întreaga adunare a israeliţilor a plecat din pustia Sin, călătorind din loc în loc, după cum le-a poruncit Domnul. Ei şi-au aşezat tabăra la Refidim; acolo nu era apă de băut pentru popor.

2 a nd the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

Poporul s-a certat cu Moise şi i-a zis: – Dă-ne apă să bem! Moise le-a răspuns: – De ce vă certaţi cu mine? De ce Îl ispitiţi pe Domnul ?

3 a nd the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

Poporul stătea acolo însetat şi cârtea împotriva lui Moise, zicându-i: – De ce ne-ai scos din Egipt? Ca să ne faci să murim aici de sete cu tot cu copii şi cu vite?

4 A nd Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

Moise a strigat către Domnul, zicându-I: – Ce să fac cu acest popor? Sunt gata să mă omoare cu pietre!

5 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

Domnul i-a răspuns lui Moise: – Du-te înaintea poporului şi ia cu tine pe câţiva din sfatul bătrânilor lui Israel; ia în mână toiagul cu care ai lovit Nilul şi du-te.

6 L o, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

Eu voi sta acolo, înaintea ta, la stâncă, în Horeb. Loveşte stânca şi din ea va ieşi apă; astfel, poporul va putea să bea. Moise a făcut întocmai înaintea sfatului bătrânilor lui Israel.

7 a nd he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

El a numit locul acela „Masa şi Meriba“, pentru că acolo israeliţii s-au certat şi L­au testat pe Domnul, zicând: „Este oare Domnul cu noi sau nu?“

8 A nd Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

După aceea a venit Amalek şi s-a luptat cu Israel la Refidim.

9 a nd Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

Moise i-a zis lui Iosua: „Alege câţiva oameni dintre noi şi du-te să te lupţi cu Amalek. Mâine voi sta pe vârful dealului cu toiagul lui Dumnezeu în mână.“

10 A nd Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

Iosua a făcut precum i-a zis Moise şi s-a luptat cu Amalek, în timp ce Moise, Aaron şi Hur s-au urcat pe vârful dealului.

11 a nd it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

Când Moise îşi ţinea mâinile sus, Israel era mai tare; când el îşi lăsa mâinile jos, era mai tare Amalek.

12 A nd the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

La un moment dat mâinile lui Moise au obosit; atunci Aaron şi Hur au luat o piatră, l­au aşezat pe ea, după care au început să-i sprijine mâinile, unul de-o parte, iar altul de cealaltă parte. Mâinile lui au rămas întinse până la apusul soarelui.

13 a nd Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

Şi Iosua l-a biruit cu ajutorul sabiei pe Amalek şi pe poporul acestuia.

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

Atunci Domnul i-a zis lui Moise: „Scrie lucrul acesta într-un sul ca o aducere-aminte şi citeşte-l în auzul lui Iosua: «Voi şterge pomenirea lui Amalek de sub ceruri.»“

15 a nd Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

Moise a zidit un altar şi l-a numit „ Domnul este steagul meu“,

16 a nd saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'

zicând: „Pentru că o mână s-a ridicat spre tronul Domnului, Domnul va purta război împotriva lui Amalek din generaţie în generaţie.“
