1 A nd these words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the remnant of the elders of the removal, and unto the priests, and unto the prophets, and unto all the people -- whom Nebuchadnezzar removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Acestea sunt cuvintele scrisorii pe care profetul Ieremia a trimis-o din Ierusalim rămăşiţei bătrânilor din exil, preoţilor, profeţilor şi întregului popor pe care Nebucadneţar îl dusese în captivitate din Ierusalim în Babilon,

2 A fter the going forth of Jeconiah the king, and the mistress, and the officers, heads of Judah and Jerusalem, and the artificer, and the smith, from Jerusalem --

după ce regele Iehoiachin, regina mamă, eunucii dregători, conducătorii lui Iuda şi ai Ierusalimului, tâmplarii şi fierarii au părăsit Ierusalimul.

3 B y the hand of Eleasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkijah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon -- to Babylon, saying,

Le-a trimis-o prin mâna lui Elasa, fiul lui Şafan, şi prin Ghemaria, fiul lui Hilchia, pe care Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, îi trimisese la Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului. Scrisoarea cuprindea următoarele:

4 ` Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, to all the removal that I removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, către toţi exilaţii pe care i-am dus în captivitate din Ierusalim în Babilon:

5 B uild ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit;

«Zidiţi case şi locuiţi-le! Plantaţi grădini şi mâncaţi-le roadele!

6 T ake ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take for your sons wives, and your daughters give to husbands, and they bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and ye are not few;

Luaţi-vă soţii şi faceţi fii şi fiice! Găsiţi soţii pentru fiii voştri şi daţi-vă fetele în căsătorie ca şi ele să poată avea fii şi fiice! Înmulţiţi-vă în locul unde sunteţi şi nu vă împuţinaţi!

7 A nd seek the peace of the city whither I have removed you, and pray for it unto Jehovah, for in its peace ye have peace.

Căutaţi pacea pentru cetatea în care v-am dus în captivitate şi rugaţi-vă Domnului pentru ea, căci de bunăstarea ei depinde şi bunăstarea voastră!»

8 ` For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Let not your prophets who in your midst, and your diviners, lift you up, nor hearken ye unto their dreams, thay ye are causing to dream;

Căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Să nu vă lăsaţi înşelaţi de profeţii care sunt în mijlocul vostru şi de ghicitorii voştri şi să nu ascultaţi de visele pe care voi îi încurajaţi să le viseze.

9 F or with falsehood they are prophesying to you in My name; I have not sent them, an affirmation of Jehovah.

Ei vă profeţesc minciuni în Numele Meu. Nu Eu i-am trimis, zice Domnul.»

10 ` For thus said Jehovah, Surely at the fulness of Babylon -- seventy years -- I inspect you, and have established towards you My good word, to bring you back unto this place.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Când se vor împlini şaptezeci de ani ai Babilonului, voi veni la voi şi Îmi voi împlini faţă de voi promisiunea Mea cea bună, aducându-vă înapoi în locul acesta.

11 F or I have known the thoughts that I am thinking towards you -- an affirmation of Jehovah; thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give to you posterity and hope.

Căci Eu cunosc planurile pe care le am cu privire la voi, zice Domnul, planuri de pace şi nu de nenorocire, ca să vă dau un viitor şi o nădejde.

12 ` And ye have called Me, and have gone, and have prayed unto Me, and I have hearkened unto you,

Mă veţi chema şi veţi veni să vă rugaţi Mie, iar Eu vă voi asculta.

13 A nd ye have sought Me, and have found, for ye seek Me with all your heart;

Mă veţi căuta şi Mă veţi găsi, dacă Mă veţi căuta din toată inima.

14 A nd I have been found of you -- an affirmation of Jehovah; and I have turned back your captivity, and have gathered you out of all the nations, and out of all the places whither I have driven you -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and I have brought you back unto the place whence I removed you.

Mă voi lăsa găsit de voi, zice Domnul, şi-i voi aduce înapoi pe captivii voştri. Vă voi aduna din toate neamurile şi din toate locurile în care v-am izgonit, zice Domnul, şi vă voi aduce înapoi în locul de unde v-am dus în captivitate.»

15 ` Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised up to us prophets in Babylon,

Pentru că ziceţi: « Domnul ne-a ridicat profeţi în Babilon! »,

16 S urely thus said Jehovah concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that is dwelling in this city, your brethren who went not forth with you in the removal;

aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre regele care stă pe tronul lui David, despre tot poporul care locuieşte în cetatea aceasta, despre fraţii voştri care nu au mers cu voi în exil.

17 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts, Lo, I am sending among them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and I have given them up as figs that vile, that are not eaten for badness.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: «Iată, voi trimite peste ei sabia, foametea şi molima, şi-i voi preface în nişte smochine stricate care, de rele ce sunt, nu pot fi mâncate.

18 A nd I have pursued after them with sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and have given them for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth, for a curse and for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for a reproach among all the nations whither I have driven them,

Îi voi urmări cu sabia, cu foametea şi cu molima şi îi voi face o pricină de groază pentru toate regatele pământului, o pricină de blestem, de pustiire, de batjocură şi de ruşine printre toate neamurile unde îi voi alunga,

19 B ecause that they have not hearkened unto My words -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- that I sent unto them by My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and ye hearkened not -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

pentru că nu au ascultat cuvintele Mele, zice Domnul, cuvinte pe care li le-am trimis iarăşi şi iarăşi prin slujitorii Mei, profeţii. Şi nici voi n-aţi ascultat, zice Domnul.

20 ` And ye, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Prin urmare, ascultaţi Cuvântul Domnului, voi, toţi exilaţii pe care v-am alungat din Ierusalim în Babilon!»

21 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning Ahab son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying to you in My name falsehood: Lo, I am giving them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath smitten them before your eyes,

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, despre Ahab, fiul lui Kolaia, şi despre Zedechia, fiul lui Maaseia, care vă profeţesc minciuni în Numele Meu: «Iată, îi dau în mâinile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, care îi va ucide sub ochii voştri.

22 A nd taken from them hath been a reviling by all the removed of Judah that in Babylon, saying, Jehovah doth set thee as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;

Din cauza lor, toţi exilaţii lui Iuda care sunt în Babilon, vor folosi următorul blestem: ‘Să-ţi facă Domnul ca lui Zedechia şi ca lui Ahab, pe care împăratul Babilonului i-a prăjit în foc!’,

23 B ecause that they have done folly in Israel, and commit adultery with the wives of their neighbours, and speak a word in My name falsely that I have not commanded them, and I He who knoweth and a witness -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

căci au făcut lucruri îngrozitoare în Israel: au comis adulter cu soţiile semenilor lor şi au spus minciuni în Numele Meu, când Eu nu le poruncisem nimic. Ştiu lucrul acesta şi sunt martor, zice Domnul.»“ Scrisoarea lui Şemaia

24 ` And unto Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou dost speak, saying,

„Spune-i nehelamitului Şemaia că

25 T hus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, saying, Because that thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people who in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests, saying,

aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Tu ai trimis scrisori în numele tău întregului popor din Ierusalim, preotului Ţefania, fiul lui Maaseia, şi tuturor celorlalţi preoţi şi le-ai zis:

26 J ehovah hath made thee priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of Jehovah, for every one mad and making himself a prophet, and thou hast put him unto the torture and unto the stocks.

‘ Domnul te-a pus preot în locul preotului Iehoiada, ca să supraveghezi în Casa Domnului pe orice nebun care se dă drept profet şi să-l arunci în butuci şi în fiare.

27 A nd now, why hast thou not pushed against Jeremiah of Anathoth, who is making himself a prophet to you?

Acum, de ce nu-l pedepseşti pe Ieremia din Anatot, care profeţeşte printre voi?

28 B ecause that he hath sent unto us to Babylon, saying, It long, build ye houses, and abide; and plant ye gardens, and eat their fruit.'

Ba încă a trimis aici, în Babilon, să ni se spună că vom sta mult în captivitate şi că este bine să ne zidim case ca să le locuim şi să ne plantăm grădini ca să le mâncăm roadele.’»“

29 A nd Zephaniah the priest readeth this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

Preotul Ţefania a citit această scrisoare în auzul profetului Ieremia.

30 A nd there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului i-a vorbit lui Ieremia astfel:

31 ` Send unto all the removal, saying, Thus said Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah prophesied to you, and I -- I have not sent him, and he doth cause you to trust on falsehood,

„Trimite să li spună tuturor celor exilaţi că aşa vorbeşte Domnul despre nehelamitul Şemaia: «Pentru că Şemaia vă profeţeşte fără ca Eu să-l fi trimis şi vă face să vă încredeţi într-o minciună,

32 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am seeing after Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and after his seed, he hath none dwelling in the midst of this people, nor doth he look on the good that I am doing to My people -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- for apostacy he hath spoken against Jehovah.'

iată ce zice Domnul: îi voi pedepsi pe nehelamitul Şemaia şi pe urmaşii lui. Nici unul dintre ai lui nu va mai locui în mijlocul acestui popor şi nu va mai vedea binele pe care-l voi face poporului Meu, zice Domnul, fiindcă a predicat răzvrătire împotriva Mea.»“
