1 A nd the Philistines are fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

Filistenii s-au luptat cu Israel, iar israeliţii au fugit dinaintea filistenilor şi au căzut răpuşi pe muntele Ghilboa.

2 a nd the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.

Filistenii i-au urmărit pe Saul şi pe fiii săi; i-au ucis pe Ionatan, pe Abinadab şi pe Malchi-Şua, fiii lui Saul.

3 A nd the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him -- men with bow -- and he is pained greatly by the archers;

Lupta devenise înverşunată în preajma lui Saul; arcaşii l-au ţintit şi l-au rănit foarte tare.

4 a nd Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come -- these uncircumcised -- and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;' and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.

Atunci Saul i-a zis celui ce-i ducea armele: „Scoate-ţi sabia şi străpunge-mă tu cu ea, ca nu cumva aceşti necircumcişi să ajungă la mine, să mă străpungă şi să mă batjocorească.“ Însă cel ce-i ducea armele n-a vrut să facă lucrul acesta pentru că îi era foarte frică. Atunci Saul şi-a luat sabia şi s-a aruncat în ea.

5 A nd the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and he falleth -- he also -- on his sword, and dieth with him;

Când cel ce-i ducea armele a văzut că Saul a murit, s-a aruncat şi el în sabia lui şi a murit împreună cu el.

6 a nd Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.

Astfel au murit împreună, în aceeaşi zi, Saul, cei trei fii ai săi, cel ce-i ducea armele şi toţi oamenii săi.

7 A nd they see -- the men of Israel, who beyond the valley, and who beyond the Jordan -- that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.

Când israeliţii care se aflau de cealaltă parte a văii şi cei care se aflau dincolo de Iordan au văzut că ceilalţi israeliţi au fugit şi că Saul şi fiii săi au murit, şi-au părăsit cetăţile şi au fugit şi ei. Atunci filistenii au venit şi au locuit în ele.

8 A nd it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and they find Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa,

Dimineaţa, când filistenii au venit să-i jefuiască pe cei ucişi, l-au găsit pe Saul şi pe cei trei fii ai săi căzuţi pe muntele Ghilboa.

9 a nd they cut off his head, and strip off his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim tidings the house of their idols, and the people;

I-au tăiat capul şi i-au luat armele după care au trimis mesageri pe tot cuprinsul ţării filistenilor ca să ducă vestea în templele idolilor lor şi poporului.

10 a nd they place his weapons the house of Ashtaroth, and his body they have fixed on the wall of Beth-Shan.

I-au pus armele în templul aştoretelor, iar trupul i l-au atârnat pe zidul Bet-Şanului.

11 A nd they hear regarding it -- the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead -- that which the Philistines have done to Saul,

Când au auzit ce i-au făcut filistenii lui Saul, locuitorii Iabeşului din Ghilad,

12 a nd all the men of valour arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there,

toţi războinicii, s-au sculat, au călătorit toată noaptea şi au luat trupul lui Saul şi trupurile fiilor săi de pe zidul cetăţii Bet-Şan. S-au întors apoi la Iabeş şi le-au ars acolo.

13 a nd they take their bones, and bury under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

Le-au luat oasele, le-au îngropat sub tamariscul din Iabeş şi au postit timp de şapte zile.
