1 A nd Saul was assenting to his death, and there came in that day a great persecution upon the assembly in Jerusalem, all also were scattered abroad in the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles;

Saul îşi dăduse consimţământul la uciderea lui Ştefan. Chiar în ziua aceea a izbucnit o mare persecuţie împotriva bisericii din Ierusalim şi toţi, în afară de apostoli, s-au împrăştiat prin regiunile Iudeii şi ale Samariei.

2 a nd devout men carried away Stephen, and made great lamentation over him;

Nişte oameni evlavioşi l-au îngropat pe Ştefan şi l-au jelit mult.

3 a nd Saul was making havoc of the assembly, into every house entering, and haling men and women, was giving them up to prison;

Saul însă făcea prăpăd în biserică, intrând prin case, luând cu forţa bărbaţi şi femei şi aruncându-i în închisoare.

4 t hey then indeed, having been scattered, went abroad proclaiming good news -- the word.

Cei ce fuseseră împrăştiaţi vesteau Cuvântul pe oriunde treceau.

5 A nd Philip having gone down to a city of Samaria, was preaching to them the Christ,

Filip s-a coborât într-o cetate a Samariei şi le-a predicat pe Cristos.

6 t he multitudes also were giving heed to the things spoken by Philip, with one accord, in their hearing and seeing the signs that he was doing,

Mulţimile luau aminte în acelaşi gând la cele spuse de Filip, când au auzit şi au văzut semnele pe care le făcea.

7 f or unclean spirits came forth from many who were possessed, crying with a loud voice, and many who have been paralytic and lame were healed,

Căci din mulţi demoniaci ieşeau duhuri rele, scoţând strigăte puternice, şi mulţi paralitici şi şchiopi erau vindecaţi.

8 a nd there was great joy in that city.

Astfel, a fost o mare bucurie în cetatea aceea.

9 A nd a certain man, by name Simon, was before in the city using magic, and amazing the nation of Samaria, saying himself to be a certain great one,

În cetate era un om pe nume Simon, care practica vrăjitoria şi uimea neamul Samariei, pretinzând că ar fi cineva important.

10 t o whom they were all giving heed, from small unto great, saying, `This one is the great power of God;'

Şi toţi, de la cel mai mic până la cel mai mare, luau aminte la el şi spuneau: „El este puterea lui Dumnezeu, cea numită «mare»!“

11 a nd they were giving heed to him, because of his having for a long time amazed them with deeds of magic.

Îl ascultau cu luare-aminte pentru că de mult timp îi uimise cu vrăjitoriile lui.

12 A nd when they believed Philip, proclaiming good news, the things concerning the reign of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women;

Dar când au crezut pe Filip, care vestea Evanghelia despre Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu şi despre Numele lui Isus Cristos, au fost botezaţi atât bărbaţi, cât şi femei.

13 a nd Simon also himself did believe, and, having been baptized, he was continuing with Philip, beholding also signs and mighty acts being done, he was amazed.

Chiar şi Simon însuşi a crezut şi, după ce a fost botezat, stătea tot timpul cu Filip şi se mira văzând semnele şi minunile mari care se făceau.

14 A nd the apostles in Jerusalem having heard that Samaria hath received the word of God, did send unto them Peter and John,

Apostolii care erau în Ierusalim, când au auzit că Samaria primise Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu, i-au trimis la ei pe Petru şi pe Ioan.

15 w ho having come down did pray concerning them, that they may receive the Holy Spirit, --

Când au ajuns, s-au rugat pentru ei ca să primească Duhul Sfânt.

16 f or as yet he was fallen upon none of them, and only they have been baptized -- to the name of the Lord Jesus;

Căci Duhul Sfânt nu Se coborâse încă peste nici unul dintre ei, ci fuseseră doar botezaţi în Numele Domnului Isus.

17 t hen were they laying hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Atunci şi-au pus mâinile peste ei, iar aceia au primit Duhul Sfânt.

18 A nd Simon, having beheld that through the laying on of the hands of the apostles, the Holy Spirit is given, brought before them money,

Când a văzut Simon că Duhul era dat prin punerea mâinilor apostolilor, le-a oferit bani,

19 s aying, `Give also to me this authority, that on whomsoever I may lay the hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.'

spunând: – Daţi-mi şi mie autoritatea aceasta, ca oricine peste care-mi pun eu mâinile să primească Duhul Sfânt!

20 A nd Peter said unto him, `Thy silver with thee -- may it be to destruction! because the gift of God thou didst think to possess through money;

Petru însă i-a zis: – Banii tăi să piară împreună cu tine, pentru că ai crezut că darul lui Dumnezeu s-ar putea obţine cu bani!

21 t hou hast neither part nor lot in this thing, for thy heart is not right before God;

Tu n-ai nici parte, nici sorţ în lucrarea aceasta, pentru că inima ta nu este cinstită înaintea lui Dumnezeu!

22 r eform, therefore, from this thy wickedness, and beseech God, if then the purpose of thy heart may be forgiven thee,

Pocăieşte-te deci de această răutate a ta şi roagă-te Domnului ca, dacă este posibil, să-ţi ierte această intenţie a inimii tale,

23 f or in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness, I perceive thee being.'

căci văd că eşti plin de otravă amară şi în lanţul nedreptăţii!

24 A nd Simon answering, said, `Beseech ye for me unto the Lord, that nothing may come upon me of the things ye have spoken.'

Simon a răspuns: – Rugaţi-vă voi Domnului pentru mine, ca nimic din ceea ce aţi spus să nu vină peste mine!

25 T hey indeed, therefore, having testified fully, and spoken the word of the Lord, did turn back to Jerusalem; in many villages also of the Samaritans they did proclaim good news.

După ce au depus mărturie şi au vorbit despre Cuvântul Domnului, Petru şi Ioan s-au întors în Ierusalim, vestind Evanghelia în multe sate de-ale samaritenilor. Filip şi eunucul etiopian

26 A nd a messenger of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, `Arise, and go on toward the south, on the way that is going down from Jerusalem to Gaza,' -- this is desert.

Un înger al Domnului i-a vorbit lui Filip astfel: „Scoală-te şi du-te spre sud, pe drumul din pustie, care coboară din Ierusalim spre Gaza!“

27 A nd having arisen, he went on, and lo, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, a man of rank, of Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship to Jerusalem;

Filip s-a sculat şi s-a dus. Şi iată că un eunuc etiopian, înalt oficial al lui Candake, regina etiopienilor, şi responsabil peste toată vistieria ei, venise să se închine în Ierusalim,

28 h e was also returning, and is sitting on his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah.

iar acum se întorcea de acolo, stând în carul lui de călătorie şi citindu-l pe profetul Isaia.

29 A nd the Spirit said to Philip, `Go near, and be joined to this chariot;'

Duhul i-a zis lui Filip: „Du-te şi însoţeşte carul acela!“

30 a nd Philip having run near, heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, `Dost thou then know what thou dost read?'

Filip a alergat către el şi l-a auzit pe eunuc citindu-l pe profetul Isaia. El l-a întrebat: – Înţelegi ce citeşti?

31 a nd he said, `Why, how am I able, if some one may not guide me?' he called Philip also, having come up, to sit with him.

Acesta i-a răspuns: – Cum aş putea, dacă nu mă va îndruma cineva? Şi l-a rugat pe Filip să se suie în car şi să se aşeze lângă el.

32 A nd the contents of the Writing that he was reading was this: `As a sheep unto slaughter he was led, and as a lamb before his shearer dumb, so he doth not open his mouth;

Pasajul din Scriptură pe care-l citea era acesta: „Ca o oaie care este dusă la tăiere şi ca un miel care tace înaintea celui ce-l tunde, tot aşa nici El nu Şi-a deschis gura.

33 i n his humiliation his judgment was taken away, and his generation -- who shall declare? because taken from the earth is his life.'

În smerenia Lui, dreptatea I-a fost negată. Cine va putea vorbi despre generaţia Lui? Căci viaţa I-a fost luată de pe pământ!“

34 A nd the eunuch answering Philip said, `I pray thee, about whom doth the prophet say this? about himself, or about some other one?'

Eunucul l-a întrebat pe Filip: – Spune-mi, te rog, despre cine spune profetul aceste lucruri? Despre sine sau despre altcineva?

35 a nd Philip having opened his mouth, and having begun from this Writing, proclaimed good news to him -- Jesus.

Atunci Filip a luat cuvântul şi, începând de la Scriptura aceasta, i-a vestit Evanghelia despre Isus.

36 A nd as they were going on the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch said, `Lo, water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?'

În timp ce călătoreau de-a lungul drumului, au ajuns la o apă. Eunucul a zis: – Uite apă! Ce mă împiedică să fiu botezat?

37

(Filip a zis: – Dacă crezi din toată inima ta, poţi! El i-a răspuns: – Cred că Isus Cristos este Fiul lui Dumnezeu!)

38 a nd he commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him;

A poruncit să stea carul, au coborât amândoi în apă, atât Filip, cât şi eunucul, iar Filip l-a botezat.

39 a nd when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more, for he was going on his way rejoicing;

Când au ieşit din apă, Duhul Domnului l-a răpit pe Filip, astfel că eunucul nu l-a mai văzut şi şi-a continuat drumul bucuros.

40 a nd Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through, he was proclaiming good news to all the cities, till his coming to Cesarea.

Filip s-a pomenit în Azot şi, călătorind spre Cezareea, a vestit Evanghelia prin toate cetăţile, până când a ajuns acolo.
