1 I n the year of the coming in of Tartan to Ashdod, when Sargon king of Asshur sendeth him, and he fighteth against Ashdod, and captureth it,

În anul în care conducătorul oştirii, trimis de împăratul Sargon al Asiriei, a venit la Aşdod, l-a asediat şi l-a cucerit,

2 a t that time spake Jehovah by the hand of Isaiah son of Amoz, saying, `Go, and thou hast loosed the sackcloth from off thy loins, and thy sandal thou dost draw from off thy foot,' and he doth so, going naked and barefoot.

Domnul i-a vorbit lui Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, astfel: „Du-te, dă-ţi jos sacul de pe tine şi scoate-ţi sandalele din picioare!“ El a făcut întocmai, umblând gol şi desculţ.

3 A nd Jehovah saith, `As My servant Isaiah hath gone naked and barefoot three years, a sign and a wonder for Egypt and for Cush,

Domnul a zis: „Aşa cum robul Meu Isaia a umblat gol şi desculţ timp de trei ani, ca un semn şi ca o prevestire împotriva Egiptului şi a lui Cuş,

4 s o doth the king of Asshur lead the captivity of Egypt, and the removal of Cush, young and old, naked and barefoot, with seat uncovered -- the nakedness of Egypt;

tot aşa împăratul Asiriei îi va duce pe egipteni în captivitate, iar pe cuşiţi în exil, atât pe tineri, cât şi pe bătrâni, goi şi desculţi, cu dosul descoperit, spre ruşinea Egiptului.

5 a nd they have been affrighted and ashamed of Cush their confidence, and of Egypt their beauty,

Cei ce şi-au pus nădejdea în Cuş şi s-au mândrit cu Egiptul vor fi înspăimântaţi şi ruşinaţi.

6 a nd the inhabitant of this isle hath said in that day -- Lo, thus our trust, Whither we have fled for help, To be delivered from the king of Asshur, And how do we escape -- we?'

În ziua aceea locuitorii de pe ţărmul acesta vor zice: «Iată ce li s-a întâmplat celor în care ne-am pus nădejdea şi la care am fugit după ajutor şi izbăvire dinaintea împăratului Asiriei! Oare cine ne va mai izbăvi acum?»“
