1 A nd it cometh to pass, at king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

Când regele Ezechia a auzit lucrul acesta, şi-a sfâşiat hainele, s-a acoperit cu un sac şi s-a dus la Casa Domnului.

2 a nd sendeth Eliakim, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,

I-a trimis la profetul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, pe Eliachim, cel ce răspundea de palat, pe scribul Şebna şi pe cei bătrâni dintre preoţi, acoperiţi toţi cu saci.

3 a nd they say unto him, `Thus said Hezekiah -- A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth.

Ei i-au zis: – Aşa vorbeşte Ezechia: „Aceasta este o zi de necaz, de pedeapsă şi de ruşine, căci copiii sunt gata să se nască, dar nu mai este nici o putere pentru a le da naştere.

4 ` It may be Jehovah thy God doth hear all the words of the chief of the butlers with which the king of Asshur his lord hath sent him to reproach the living God, and hath decided concerning the words that Jehovah thy God hath heard, and thou hast lifted up prayer for the remnant that is found.'

Poate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, a auzit toate cuvintele lui Rab-Şache, care a fost trimis de stăpânul său, împăratul Asiriei, pentru a-L batjocori pe Dumnezeul cel Viu şi poate că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, îl va mustra pentru cuvintele pe care le-a auzit. De aceea înalţă o rugăciune pentru cei care au mai rămas!“

5 A nd the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

Când slujitorii regelui Ezechia au venit la Isaia,

6 a nd Isaiah saith to them, `Thus do ye say unto your lord: Thus said Jehovah, Be not afraid because of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Asshur have reviled Me.

acesta le-a zis: – Să-i spuneţi stăpânului vostru că aşa vorbeşte Domnul: „Nu te speria de cuvintele pe care le-ai auzit şi cu care slujitorii împăratului Asiriei M-au blasfemiat.

7 L o, I am giving in him a spirit, and he hath heard a report, and hath turned back to his land, and I have caused him to fall by the sword in his land.'

Iată, voi pune în el un duh şi astfel, la auzirea unui zvon, se va întoarce în ţara lui; şi voi face să cadă ucis de sabie chiar în ţara lui.“

8 A nd the chief of the butlers turneth back and findeth the king of Asshur fighting against Libnah, for he hath heard that he hath journeyed from Lachish.

Când Rab-Şache a auzit că împăratul Asiriei plecase din Lachiş, s-a întors şi l-a găsit pe acesta luptând împotriva Libnei.

9 A nd he heareth concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he hath come out to fight with thee;' and he turneth and sendeth messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

După aceea, când împăratul Asiriei a auzit că Tirhaka, regele din Cuş, a pornit la luptă împotriva lui, a trimis din nou soli la Ezechia, zicând:

10 ` Thus do ye speak unto Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God lift thee up in whom thou art trusting, saying, Jerusalem is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

„Aşa să-i vorbiţi lui Ezechia, regele lui Iuda: «Nu-l lăsa pe Dumnezeul tău, în care te încrezi, să te amăgească zicându-ţi că Ierusalimul nu va fi dat în mâna împăratului Asiriei.

11 L o, thou hast heard that which the kings of Asshur have done to all the lands -- to devote them; and thou art delivered!

Cu siguranţă ai auzit ce au făcut împăraţii Asiriei tuturor ţărilor cucerite, distrugându-le în întregime! Şi tu să fii oare salvat?

12 d id the gods of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed -- Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who in Thelassar?

Şi-au salvat, oare, zeii neamurile pe care părinţii mei le-au distrus: pe Gozan, pe Haran, pe Reţef şi pe fiii lui Eden, care erau în Tel-Asar?

13 W here the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?'

Unde este regele Hamatului, regele Arpadului şi regele cetăţii Sefarvayim, al cetăţii Hena sau al cetăţii Iva?»“ Rugăciunea lui Ezechia

14 A nd Hezekiah taketh the letters out of the hand of the messengers, and readeth them, and goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and Hezekiah spreadeth it before Jehovah.

Ezechia a luat scrisoarea din mâna solilor şi a citit-o. Apoi s-a dus la Casa Domnului şi a întins-o înaintea Domnului.

15 A nd Hezekiah prayeth before Jehovah, and saith, `O Jehovah, God of Israel, inhabiting the cherubs, Thou God Himself -- Thyself alone -- to all the kingdoms of the earth: Thou hast made the heavens and the earth.

Ezechia s-a rugat Domnului şi a zis: „O, Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Israel, Tu, Care tronezi deasupra heruvimilor! Tu eşti singurul Dumnezeu al tuturor regatelor pământului! Tu ai făcut cerurile şi pământul!

16 I ncline, O Jehovah, Thine ear, and hear; open, O Jehovah, Thine eyes, and see; and hear Thou the words of Sennacherib with which he hath sent him to reproach the living God.

Doamne, pleacă-Ţi urechea şi ascultă! Doamne, deschide-Ţi ochii şi priveşte! Auzi cuvintele pe care Sanherib le-a trimis ca să-L batjocorească pe Dumnezeul cel Viu!

17 ` Truly, O Jehovah, kings of Asshur have laid waste the nations, and their land,

Doamne, este adevărat că împăraţii Asiriei au pustiit aceste neamuri şi ţările lor

18 a nd have put their gods into fire, for they no gods, but work of the hands of man, wood and stone, and destroy them.

şi că le-au aruncat zeii în foc, însă ei i-au distrus pentru că nu erau Dumnezeu, ci lucrări făcute de mâna omului; erau doar lemn şi piatră.

19 A nd now, O Jehovah our God, save us, we pray Thee, out of his hand, and know do all kingdoms of the earth that Thou Jehovah God -- Thyself alone.'

Acum, Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, Te rugăm, scapă-ne din mâna lui, ca să ştie toate regatele pământului că Tu, Doamne, eşti singurul Dumnezeu!“ Profeţia lui Isaia împotriva lui Sanherib

20 A nd Isaiah son of Amoz sendeth unto Hezekiah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed unto Me concerning Sennacherib king of Asshur I have heard:

Atunci Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, a trimis la Ezechia să i se spună: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Ţi-am auzit rugăciunea pe care Mi-ai făcut-o cu privire la Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei.

21 t his the word that Jehovah spake concerning him: `Trampled on thee -- laughed at thee, Hath the virgin daughter of Zion Behind thee shaken the head -- Hath the daughter of Jerusalem?

Iată care este cuvântul pe care l-a rostit Domnul împotriva acestuia: Fecioara, fiica Sionului, te dispreţuieşte şi îşi bate joc de tine! Fiica Ierusalimului dă din cap în timp ce fugi!

22 W hom hast thou reproached and reviled? And against whom lifted up a voice? Yea, thou dost lift up on high thine eyes -- Against the Holy One of Israel!

Ştii pe Cine ai batjocorit şi ai blasfemiat tu? Ştii împotriva Cui ţi-ai ridicat glasul? Ştii împotriva Cui ţi-ai înălţat mândru privirea? Împotriva Sfântului lui Israel!

23 B y the hand of thy messengers Thou hast reproached the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains -- The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

Prin solii tăi L-ai batjocorit pe Domnul şi ai zis: ‘Cu mulţimea carelor mele am urcat înălţimile munţilor până la cele mai înalte piscuri ale Libanului! I-am tăiat cei mai înalţi cedri şi cei mai aleşi chiparoşi. Am ajuns la cele mai îndepărtate locuri şi la pădurea cea mai deasă.

24 I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

Am săpat fântâni şi am băut ape străine şi cu tălpile picioarelor mele am secat toate pâraiele Egiptului.’

25 H ast thou not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps fenced cities,

N-ai auzit? Eu le-am întocmit cu mult timp în urmă, din zile străvechi, le-am plănuit; acum însă le-am îngăduit să se împlinească, anume ca tu să prefaci cetăţile fortificate în mormane de dărâmături.

26 A nd their inhabitants feeble-handed, They were broken down, and are dried up, They have been the herb of the field, And the greenness of the tender grass, Grass of the roofs, And blasted corn -- before it hath risen up!

Locuitorii lor sunt neputincioşi, sunt uluiţi şi făcuţi de ruşine. Au ajuns ca iarba de pe câmp şi ca verdeaţa fragedă, ca iarba de pe acoperişuri, care se usucă înainte să crească.

27 A nd thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thine anger towards Me;

Dar Eu ştiu unde stai, când ieşi şi când intri şi cât eşti de furios pe Mine.

28 B ecause of thine anger towards Me, And thy noise -- it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And have caused thee to turn back, In the way in which thou camest.

Pentru că te-ai mâniat pe Mine şi pentru că trufia ta a ajuns la urechile Mele, voi pune veriga Mea în nasul tău şi zăbala Mea în gura ta şi te voi întoarce pe drumul pe care ai venit!

29 A nd this to thee the sign, Food of the year the spontaneous growth, And in the second year the self-produced, And in the third year sow ye, and reap, And plant vineyards, and eat their fruits.

Acesta va fi semnul pentru tine, Ezechia: anul acesta veţi mânca ce va creşte de la sine, iar în al doilea an – ce va răsări din ce a rămas. Dar în al treilea an veţi semăna şi veţi secera, veţi planta vii şi le veţi mânca roadele.

30 A nd it hath continued -- The escaped of the house of Judah That hath been left -- to take root beneath, And hath made fruit upward.

Supravieţuitorii Casei lui Iuda, cei rămaşi, vor prinde iarăşi rădăcini dedesubt şi vor da rod deasupra.

31 F or from Jerusalem goeth out a remnant, And an escape from mount Zion; The zeal of Jehovah doth this.

Căci din Ierusalim va ieşi o rămăşiţă şi din muntele Sion o ceată de supravieţuitori. Râvna Domnului Oştirilor va face lucrul acesta.»“

32 T herefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

„De aceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul cu privire la împăratul Asiriei: «Nu va intra în cetatea aceasta şi nu va trage nici o săgeată acolo; nu va veni în faţa ei cu vreun scut şi nu va ridica împotriva ei nici o rampă de asalt.

33 I n the way that he cometh in -- In it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, The affirmation of Jehovah --

Pe drumul pe care a venit, pe acela se va întoarce şi nu va intra în cetatea aceasta, zice Domnul.

34 A nd I have covered over this city, To save it, for Mine own sake, And for the sake of David My servant.'

Eu voi ocroti cetatea aceasta pentru a o izbăvi, de dragul Meu şi de dragul robului Meu David.»“

35 A nd it cometh to pass, in that night, that a messenger of Jehovah goeth out, and smiteth in the camp of Asshur a hundred eighty and five thousand, and they rise early in the morning, and lo, all of them dead corpses.

În acea noapte, îngerul Domnului a ieşit în tabăra asirienilor şi a ucis o sută optzeci şi cinci de mii de oameni. Când ceilalţi s-au trezit dis-de-dimineaţă, au văzut că toţi erau nişte trupuri moarte.

36 A nd Sennacherib king of Asshur journeyeth, and goeth, and turneth back, and dwelleth in Nineveh;

Atunci Sanherib, împăratul Asiriei, şi-a ridicat tabăra şi a plecat. El s-a întors la Ninive şi a locuit acolo.

37 a nd it cometh to pass, he is bowing himself in the house of Nisroch his god, and Adramelech and Sharezar have smitten him with the sword, and they have escaped to the land of Ararat, and Esar-Haddon his son reigneth in his stead.

În timp ce se închina în templul zeului său, Nisrok, fiii săi, Adra-Melek şi Sareţer, l-au ucis cu sabia şi au fugit în ţara Ararat. Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Esar-Hadon.
