1 A nd the passover and the unleavened food were after two days, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, by guile, having taken hold of him, they might kill him;

Peste două zile era Paştele şi Sărbătoarea Azimelor. Conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii căutau o modalitate prin care să-L aresteze pe Isus prin vicleşug şi să-L omoare.

2 a nd they said, `Not in the feast, lest there shall be a tumult of the people.'

Însă ei ziceau: „Nu în timpul sărbătorii, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în popor.“ Ungerea lui Isus la Betania

3 A nd he, being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, at his reclining (at meat), there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very precious, and having broken the alabaster box, did pour on his head;

În timp ce se afla în Betania, luând masa în casa lui Simon, leprosul, a venit o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru, plin cu parfum de nard pur, foarte scump. Ea a spart vasul de alabastru şi a turnat parfumul pe capul lui Isus.

4 a nd there were certain much displeased within themselves, and saying, `For what hath this waste of the ointment been made?

Unii au fost indignaţi şi au zis între ei: „Pentru ce s-a făcut risipa aceasta de parfum?

5 f or this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

Căci parfumul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde cu peste trei sute de denari, iar banii să fie daţi săracilor!“ Şi o mustrau pe femeie cu asprime.

6 A nd Jesus said, `Let her alone; why are ye giving her trouble? a good work she wrought on me;

Însă Isus a zis: „Lăsaţi-o în pace! De ce-i cauzaţi supărare? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine!

7 f or the poor always ye have with you, and whenever ye may will ye are able to do them good, but me ye have not always;

Căci pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi şi puteţi să le faceţi bine oricând vreţi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna!

8 w hat she could she did, she anticipated to anoint my body for the embalming.

Ea a făcut ce a putut: Mi-a uns trupul mai dinainte, în vederea pregătirii Mele pentru îngropare.

9 V erily I say to you, wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what also this woman did shall be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

Adevărat vă spun că oriunde va fi vestită Evanghelia, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut această femeie, în amintirea ei.“ Trădarea lui Iuda

10 A nd Judas the Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them,

Atunci Iuda Iscarioteanul, unul din cei doisprezece, s-a dus la conducătorii preoţilor ca să-L dea pe mâna lor.

11 a nd having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him money, and he was seeking how, conveniently, he might deliver him up.

Ei s-au bucurat când au auzit aceasta şi i-au promis că-i vor da bani. Şi el a început să caute un prilej ca să-L dea pe mâna lor. Masa pascală

12 A nd the first day of the unleavened food, when they were killing the passover, his disciples say to him, `Where wilt thou, having gone, we may prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?'

În prima zi a Sărbătorii Azimelor, când se jertfeşte mielul de Paşte, ucenicii Lui L-au întrebat: – Unde vrei să ne ducem să-Ţi pregătim să mănânci mielul de Paşte?

13 A nd he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith to them, `Go ye away to the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him;

El i-a trimis pe doi dintre ucenicii Lui în cetate şi le-a zis: – Duceţi-vă în cetate şi acolo vă va întâlni un om care duce un vas cu apă. Urmaţi-l,

14 a nd wherever he may go in, say ye to the master of the house -- The Teacher saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where the passover, with my disciples, I may eat?

şi acolo unde va intra el, spuneţi stăpânului casei astfel: „Învăţătorul întreabă: «Unde este camera Mea de oaspeţi în care urmează să mănânc mielul de Paşte împreună cu ucenicii Mei?»“

15 a nd he will shew you a large upper room, furnished, prepared -- there make ready for us.'

El vă va arăta sus o cameră mare şi gata aranjată. Acolo să faceţi pregătirile pentru noi!

16 A nd his disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found as he said to them, and they made ready the passover.

Ucenicii au plecat, au ajuns în cetate şi au găsit totul aşa cum le spusese Isus; şi au pregătit mielul de Paşte. Descoperirea trădătorului

17 A nd evening having come, he cometh with the twelve,

Când s-a înserat, Isus a venit împreună cu cei doisprezece.

18 a nd as they are reclining, and eating, Jesus said, `Verily I say to you -- one of you, who is eating with me -- shall deliver me up.'

În timp ce erau la masă şi mâncau, Isus a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că unul dintre voi, care mănâncă împreună cu Mine, Mă va trăda.

19 A nd they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him, one by one, `Is it I?' and another, `Is it I?'

Ei s-au întristat foarte tare şi au început să-L întrebe, unul câte unul: – Nu cumva sunt eu?

20 A nd he answering said to them, `One of the twelve who is dipping with me in the dish;

El le-a răspuns: – Este unul din cei doisprezece, care pune mâna în castron împreună cu Mine.

21 t he Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up; good were it to him if that man had not been born.'

Da, Fiul Omului Se duce după cum este scris cu privire la El, dar vai de omul acela prin care este trădat Fiul Omului! Era mai bine pentru acel om dacă nu s-ar fi născut! Cina Domnului

22 A nd as they are eating, Jesus having taken bread, having blessed, brake, and gave to them, and said, `Take, eat; this is my body.'

În timp ce mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine şi, după ce a binecuvântat -o, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o ucenicilor, zicând: „Luaţi! Acesta este trupul Meu.“

23 A nd having taken the cup, having given thanks, he gave to them, and they drank of it -- all;

Apoi a luat un pahar şi, după ce a adus mulţumiri, l-a dat ucenicilor şi toţi au băut din el.

24 a nd he said to them, `This is my blood of the new covenant, which for many is being poured out;

Isus le-a zis: „Acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului, care este vărsat pentru mulţi.

25 v erily I say to you, that no more may I drink of the produce of the vine till that day when I may drink it new in the reign of God.'

Adevărat vă spun că nu voi mai bea din rodul viţei până în ziua aceea când îl voi bea nou în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.“

26 A nd having sung an hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives,

După ce au cântat psalmii, s-au dus spre Muntele Măslinilor.

27 a nd Jesus saith to them -- `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night, because it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad,

Isus le-a zis: – Toţi vă veţi poticni, pentru că este scris: „Voi lovi păstorul, şi oile vor fi risipite!“

28 b ut after my having risen I will go before you to Galilee.'

Dar după învierea Mea voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

29 A nd Peter said to him, `And if all shall be stumbled, yet not I;'

Petru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă toţi se vor poticni, eu nu mă voi poticni!

30 A nd Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, thrice thou shalt deny me.'

Isus i-a zis: – Adevărat îţi spun că astăzi, în noaptea aceasta, înainte de al doilea cântat al cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!

31 A nd he spake the more vehemently, `If it may be necessary for me to die with thee -- I will in nowise deny thee;' and in like manner also said they all.

Dar Petru a răspuns şi mai convins: – Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, eu tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine! Şi toţi au spus la fel. Ghetsimani

32 A nd they come to a spot, the name of which Gethsemane, and he saith to his disciples, `Sit ye here till I may pray;'

Apoi au venit într-un loc numit Ghetsimani şi Isus le-a zis ucenicilor Săi: „Staţi jos aici, în timp ce Eu mă rog!“

33 a nd he taketh Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

I-a luat cu El pe Petru, pe Iacov şi pe Ioan şi a început să fie neliniştit şi să se mâhnească.

34 a nd he saith to them, `Exceeding sorrowful is my soul -- to death; remain here, and watch.'

El le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte. Rămâneţi aici şi vegheaţi!“

35 A nd having gone forward a little, he fell upon the earth, and was praying, that, if it be possible the hour may pass from him,

S-a depărtat puţin, a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi s-a rugat ca, dacă este posibil, să treacă de la El ceasul acela.

36 a nd he said, `Abba, Father; all things are possible to Thee; make this cup pass from me; but, not what I will, but what Thou.'

El zicea: „ Abba, Tată, la Tine toate lucrurile sunt posibile! Îndepărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi, nu cum vreau Eu, ci cum vrei Tu!“

37 A nd he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, `Simon, thou dost sleep! thou wast not able to watch one hour!

Apoi a venit la ucenici, dar i-a găsit dormind. El i-a zis lui Petru: „Simone, dormi?! N-ai putut veghea nici măcar o oră?

38 W atch ye and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

Vegheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită! Duhul într-adevăr este doritor, dar carnea este neputincioasă.“

39 A nd again having gone away, he prayed, the same word saying;

S-a îndepărtat şi s-a rugat din nou, spunând aceleaşi cuvinte.

40 a nd having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

A venit iarăşi la ucenici şi i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreunaseră ochii de somn. Ei nu ştiau ce să-I răspundă.

41 A nd he cometh the third time, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest -- it is over; the hour did come; lo, the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of the sinful;

Când a venit a treia oară, le-a zis: „Încă mai dormiţi şi vă odihniţi? Destul! A sosit ceasul! Iată că Fiul Omului este trădat în mâinile păcătoşilor.

42 r ise, we may go, lo, he who is delivering me up hath come nigh.'

Sculaţi-vă! Să mergem! Iată că se apropie cel ce Mă trădează!“ Arestarea lui Isus

43 A nd immediately -- while he is yet speaking -- cometh near Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

Şi imediat, în timp ce El încă vorbea, a venit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, împreună cu o mulţime de oameni cu săbii şi ciomege, trimişi de conducătorii preoţilor, de către cărturari şi de către bătrâni.

44 a nd he who is delivering him up had given a token to them, saying, `Whomsoever I shall kiss, he it is, lay hold on him, and lead him away safely,'

Trădătorul le dăduse următorul semn: „Cel pe Care-L voi săruta, Acela este! Să-L arestaţi şi să-L luaţi sub pază!“

45 a nd having come, immediately, having gone near him, he saith, `Rabbi, Rabbi,' and kissed him.

Când a venit, s-a îndreptat imediat spre Isus şi I-a zis: „ Rabbi!“ Şi L-a sărutat.

46 A nd they laid on him their hands, and kept hold on him;

Atunci ei au pus mâna pe Isus şi L-au arestat.

47 a nd a certain one of those standing by, having drawn the sword, struck the servant of the chief priest, and took off his ear.

Unul dintre cei ce stăteau acolo a scos sabia şi l-a lovit pe sclavul marelui preot, tăindu-i o ureche.

48 A nd Jesus answering said to them, `As against a robber ye came out, with swords and sticks, to take me!

Isus le-a zis: „Aţi ieşit să Mă prindeţi cu săbii şi ciomege, ca pe un tâlhar ?

49 d aily I was with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not lay hold on me -- but that the Writings may be fulfilled.'

În fiecare zi eram cu voi în Templu şi dădeam învăţătură, dar nu M-aţi arestat! Însă fie ca Scripturile să fie împlinite!“

50 A nd having left him they all fled;

Toţi L-au părăsit şi au fugit.

51 a nd a certain young man was following him, having put a linen cloth about naked body, and the young men lay hold on him,

Un anumit tânăr, care purta peste trupul gol doar o pânză de in, Îl urma pe Isus. L-au prins şi pe el,

52 a nd he, having left the linen cloth, did flee from them naked.

dar el şi-a lăsat pânza de in şi a fugit dezbrăcat. Isus înaintea Sinedriului

53 A nd they led away Jesus unto the chief priest, and come together to him do all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

Pe Isus L-au dus la marele preot, iar acolo s-au adunat toţi conducătorii preoţilor, bătrânii şi cărturarii.

54 a nd Peter afar off did follow him, to the inside of the hall of the chief priest, and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself near the fire.

Petru L-a urmat de la distanţă până în curtea marelui preot. S-a aşezat împreună cu gărzile şi se încălzea la foc.

55 A nd the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

Conducătorii preoţilor şi întregul Sinedriu căutau vreo mărturie împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L condamne la moarte, dar n-au găsit,

56 f or many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.

pentru că, deşi mulţi dădeau mărturii false împotriva Lui, mărturiile lor nu se potriveau.

57 A nd certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

Unii s-au ridicat şi au depus împotriva Lui o mărturie falsă, spunând:

58 ` We heard him saying -- I will throw down this sanctuary made with hands, and by three days, another made without hands I will build;'

„Noi L-am auzit zicând: «Eu voi dărâma acest Templu, făcut de mâna omului, şi în trei zile voi construi un altul, care nu va fi făcut de mâna omului.»“

59 a nd neither so was their testimony alike.

Dar nici măcar în privinţa aceasta nu se potrivea mărturia lor.

60 A nd the chief priest, having risen up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! what do these testify against thee?'

Marele preot s-a ridicat, în mijloc, şi L-a întrebat pe Isus: – Nu răspunzi nimic la ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva Ta?

61 a nd he was keeping silent, and did not answer anything. Again the chief priest was questioning him, and saith to him, `Art thou the Christ -- the Son of the Blessed?'

Dar El tăcea şi nu răspundea nimic. Marele preot L-a întrebat din nou: – Eşti Tu Cristosul, Fiul Celui Binecuvântat?

62 a nd Jesus said, `I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

Isus a răspuns: – Sunt. Şi Îl veţi vedea pe Fiul Omului şezând la dreapta Puterii şi venind cu norii cerului!

63 A nd the chief priest, having rent his garments, saith, `What need have we yet of witnesses?

Atunci marele preot şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi a zis: – Ce nevoie mai avem de martori?!

64 Y e heard the evil speaking, what appeareth to you?' and they all condemned him to be worthy of death,

Aţi auzit blasfemia! Ce părere aveţi? Toţi L-au condamnat considerând că este vinovat şi vrednic de moarte.

65 a nd certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, `Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

Unii au început să-L scuipe, să-I acopere faţa, să-L lovească şi să-I zică: „Profeţeşte!“, iar gărzile L-au luat la palme. Lepădarea lui Petru

66 A nd Peter being in the hall beneath, there doth come one of the maids of the chief priest,

În timp ce Petru se afla jos, în curte, a venit una dintre slujnicele marelui preot

67 a nd having seen Peter warming himself, having looked on him, she said, `And thou wast with Jesus of Nazareth!'

şi când l-a văzut pe Petru încălzindu-se la foc, s-a uitat la el şi a zis: – Şi tu erai cu Isus nazarineanul!

68 a nd he denied, saying, `I have not known, neither do I understand what thou sayest;' and he went forth without to the porch, and a cock crew.

Însă el s-a lepădat zicând: – Nu ştiu, nici nu înţeleg despre ce vorbeşti! A ieşit afară, în faţa porţii, (şi atunci a cântat cocoşul).

69 A nd the maid having seen him again, began to say to those standing near -- `This is of them;'

Slujnica l-a văzut şi a început din nou să le spună celor ce stăteau acolo: „Acesta este unul dintre ei!“

70 a nd he was again denying. And after a little again, those standing near said to Peter, `Truly thou art of them, for thou also art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike;'

Însă el s-a lepădat din nou. După puţin timp, cei ce stăteau acolo i-au zis din nou lui Petru: – Cu siguranţă eşti unul dintre ei, căci eşti galileean!

71 a nd he began to anathematize, and to swear -- `I have not known this man of whom ye speak;'

Dar el a început să se blesteme şi să jure zicând: – Nu-L cunosc pe acest om despre care vorbiţi!

72 a nd a second time a cock crew, and Peter remembered the saying that Jesus said to him -- `Before a cock crow twice, thou mayest deny me thrice;' and having thought thereon -- he was weeping.

Şi imediat a cântat cocoşul a doua oară. Atunci Petru şi-a adus aminte cuvântul pe care i-l spusese Isus: „Înainte de al doilea cântat al cocoşului te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!“ Şi a început să plângă.
