1 P este două zile era Paştele şi Sărbătoarea Azimelor. Conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii căutau o modalitate prin care să-L aresteze pe Isus prin vicleşug şi să-L omoare.

And the passover and the unleavened food were after two days, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, by guile, having taken hold of him, they might kill him;

2 Î nsă ei ziceau: „Nu în timpul sărbătorii, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în popor.“ Ungerea lui Isus la Betania

and they said, `Not in the feast, lest there shall be a tumult of the people.'

3 Î n timp ce se afla în Betania, luând masa în casa lui Simon, leprosul, a venit o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru, plin cu parfum de nard pur, foarte scump. Ea a spart vasul de alabastru şi a turnat parfumul pe capul lui Isus.

And he, being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, at his reclining (at meat), there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very precious, and having broken the alabaster box, did pour on his head;

4 U nii au fost indignaţi şi au zis între ei: „Pentru ce s-a făcut risipa aceasta de parfum?

and there were certain much displeased within themselves, and saying, `For what hath this waste of the ointment been made?

5 C ăci parfumul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde cu peste trei sute de denari, iar banii să fie daţi săracilor!“ Şi o mustrau pe femeie cu asprime.

for this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

6 Î nsă Isus a zis: „Lăsaţi-o în pace! De ce-i cauzaţi supărare? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine!

And Jesus said, `Let her alone; why are ye giving her trouble? a good work she wrought on me;

7 C ăci pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi şi puteţi să le faceţi bine oricând vreţi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna!

for the poor always ye have with you, and whenever ye may will ye are able to do them good, but me ye have not always;

8 E a a făcut ce a putut: Mi-a uns trupul mai dinainte, în vederea pregătirii Mele pentru îngropare.

what she could she did, she anticipated to anoint my body for the embalming.

9 A devărat vă spun că oriunde va fi vestită Evanghelia, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut această femeie, în amintirea ei.“ Trădarea lui Iuda

Verily I say to you, wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what also this woman did shall be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

10 A tunci Iuda Iscarioteanul, unul din cei doisprezece, s-a dus la conducătorii preoţilor ca să-L dea pe mâna lor.

And Judas the Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them,

11 E i s-au bucurat când au auzit aceasta şi i-au promis că-i vor da bani. Şi el a început să caute un prilej ca să-L dea pe mâna lor. Masa pascală

and having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him money, and he was seeking how, conveniently, he might deliver him up.

12 Î n prima zi a Sărbătorii Azimelor, când se jertfeşte mielul de Paşte, ucenicii Lui L-au întrebat: – Unde vrei să ne ducem să-Ţi pregătim să mănânci mielul de Paşte?

And the first day of the unleavened food, when they were killing the passover, his disciples say to him, `Where wilt thou, having gone, we may prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?'

13 E l i-a trimis pe doi dintre ucenicii Lui în cetate şi le-a zis: – Duceţi-vă în cetate şi acolo vă va întâlni un om care duce un vas cu apă. Urmaţi-l,

And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith to them, `Go ye away to the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him;

14 ş i acolo unde va intra el, spuneţi stăpânului casei astfel: „Învăţătorul întreabă: «Unde este camera Mea de oaspeţi în care urmează să mănânc mielul de Paşte împreună cu ucenicii Mei?»“

and wherever he may go in, say ye to the master of the house -- The Teacher saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where the passover, with my disciples, I may eat?

15 E l vă va arăta sus o cameră mare şi gata aranjată. Acolo să faceţi pregătirile pentru noi!

and he will shew you a large upper room, furnished, prepared -- there make ready for us.'

16 U cenicii au plecat, au ajuns în cetate şi au găsit totul aşa cum le spusese Isus; şi au pregătit mielul de Paşte. Descoperirea trădătorului

And his disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found as he said to them, and they made ready the passover.

17 C ând s-a înserat, Isus a venit împreună cu cei doisprezece.

And evening having come, he cometh with the twelve,

18 Î n timp ce erau la masă şi mâncau, Isus a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că unul dintre voi, care mănâncă împreună cu Mine, Mă va trăda.

and as they are reclining, and eating, Jesus said, `Verily I say to you -- one of you, who is eating with me -- shall deliver me up.'

19 E i s-au întristat foarte tare şi au început să-L întrebe, unul câte unul: – Nu cumva sunt eu?

And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him, one by one, `Is it I?' and another, `Is it I?'

20 E l le-a răspuns: – Este unul din cei doisprezece, care pune mâna în castron împreună cu Mine.

And he answering said to them, `One of the twelve who is dipping with me in the dish;

21 D a, Fiul Omului Se duce după cum este scris cu privire la El, dar vai de omul acela prin care este trădat Fiul Omului! Era mai bine pentru acel om dacă nu s-ar fi născut! Cina Domnului

the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up; good were it to him if that man had not been born.'

22 Î n timp ce mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine şi, după ce a binecuvântat -o, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o ucenicilor, zicând: „Luaţi! Acesta este trupul Meu.“

And as they are eating, Jesus having taken bread, having blessed, brake, and gave to them, and said, `Take, eat; this is my body.'

23 A poi a luat un pahar şi, după ce a adus mulţumiri, l-a dat ucenicilor şi toţi au băut din el.

And having taken the cup, having given thanks, he gave to them, and they drank of it -- all;

24 I sus le-a zis: „Acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului, care este vărsat pentru mulţi.

and he said to them, `This is my blood of the new covenant, which for many is being poured out;

25 A devărat vă spun că nu voi mai bea din rodul viţei până în ziua aceea când îl voi bea nou în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.“

verily I say to you, that no more may I drink of the produce of the vine till that day when I may drink it new in the reign of God.'

26 D upă ce au cântat psalmii, s-au dus spre Muntele Măslinilor.

And having sung an hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives,

27 I sus le-a zis: – Toţi vă veţi poticni, pentru că este scris: „Voi lovi păstorul, şi oile vor fi risipite!“

and Jesus saith to them -- `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night, because it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad,

28 D ar după învierea Mea voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

but after my having risen I will go before you to Galilee.'

29 P etru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă toţi se vor poticni, eu nu mă voi poticni!

And Peter said to him, `And if all shall be stumbled, yet not I;'

30 I sus i-a zis: – Adevărat îţi spun că astăzi, în noaptea aceasta, înainte de al doilea cântat al cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!

And Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, thrice thou shalt deny me.'

31 D ar Petru a răspuns şi mai convins: – Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, eu tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine! Şi toţi au spus la fel. Ghetsimani

And he spake the more vehemently, `If it may be necessary for me to die with thee -- I will in nowise deny thee;' and in like manner also said they all.

32 A poi au venit într-un loc numit Ghetsimani şi Isus le-a zis ucenicilor Săi: „Staţi jos aici, în timp ce Eu mă rog!“

And they come to a spot, the name of which Gethsemane, and he saith to his disciples, `Sit ye here till I may pray;'

33 I -a luat cu El pe Petru, pe Iacov şi pe Ioan şi a început să fie neliniştit şi să se mâhnească.

and he taketh Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

34 E l le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte. Rămâneţi aici şi vegheaţi!“

and he saith to them, `Exceeding sorrowful is my soul -- to death; remain here, and watch.'

35 S -a depărtat puţin, a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi s-a rugat ca, dacă este posibil, să treacă de la El ceasul acela.

And having gone forward a little, he fell upon the earth, and was praying, that, if it be possible the hour may pass from him,

36 E l zicea: „ Abba, Tată, la Tine toate lucrurile sunt posibile! Îndepărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi, nu cum vreau Eu, ci cum vrei Tu!“

and he said, `Abba, Father; all things are possible to Thee; make this cup pass from me; but, not what I will, but what Thou.'

37 A poi a venit la ucenici, dar i-a găsit dormind. El i-a zis lui Petru: „Simone, dormi?! N-ai putut veghea nici măcar o oră?

And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, `Simon, thou dost sleep! thou wast not able to watch one hour!

38 V egheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită! Duhul într-adevăr este doritor, dar carnea este neputincioasă.“

Watch ye and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

39 S -a îndepărtat şi s-a rugat din nou, spunând aceleaşi cuvinte.

And again having gone away, he prayed, the same word saying;

40 A venit iarăşi la ucenici şi i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreunaseră ochii de somn. Ei nu ştiau ce să-I răspundă.

and having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

41 C ând a venit a treia oară, le-a zis: „Încă mai dormiţi şi vă odihniţi? Destul! A sosit ceasul! Iată că Fiul Omului este trădat în mâinile păcătoşilor.

And he cometh the third time, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest -- it is over; the hour did come; lo, the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of the sinful;

42 S culaţi-vă! Să mergem! Iată că se apropie cel ce Mă trădează!“ Arestarea lui Isus

rise, we may go, lo, he who is delivering me up hath come nigh.'

43 Ş i imediat, în timp ce El încă vorbea, a venit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, împreună cu o mulţime de oameni cu săbii şi ciomege, trimişi de conducătorii preoţilor, de către cărturari şi de către bătrâni.

And immediately -- while he is yet speaking -- cometh near Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

44 T rădătorul le dăduse următorul semn: „Cel pe Care-L voi săruta, Acela este! Să-L arestaţi şi să-L luaţi sub pază!“

and he who is delivering him up had given a token to them, saying, `Whomsoever I shall kiss, he it is, lay hold on him, and lead him away safely,'

45 C ând a venit, s-a îndreptat imediat spre Isus şi I-a zis: „ Rabbi!“ Şi L-a sărutat.

and having come, immediately, having gone near him, he saith, `Rabbi, Rabbi,' and kissed him.

46 A tunci ei au pus mâna pe Isus şi L-au arestat.

And they laid on him their hands, and kept hold on him;

47 U nul dintre cei ce stăteau acolo a scos sabia şi l-a lovit pe sclavul marelui preot, tăindu-i o ureche.

and a certain one of those standing by, having drawn the sword, struck the servant of the chief priest, and took off his ear.

48 I sus le-a zis: „Aţi ieşit să Mă prindeţi cu săbii şi ciomege, ca pe un tâlhar ?

And Jesus answering said to them, `As against a robber ye came out, with swords and sticks, to take me!

49 Î n fiecare zi eram cu voi în Templu şi dădeam învăţătură, dar nu M-aţi arestat! Însă fie ca Scripturile să fie împlinite!“

daily I was with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not lay hold on me -- but that the Writings may be fulfilled.'

50 T oţi L-au părăsit şi au fugit.

And having left him they all fled;

51 U n anumit tânăr, care purta peste trupul gol doar o pânză de in, Îl urma pe Isus. L-au prins şi pe el,

and a certain young man was following him, having put a linen cloth about naked body, and the young men lay hold on him,

52 d ar el şi-a lăsat pânza de in şi a fugit dezbrăcat. Isus înaintea Sinedriului

and he, having left the linen cloth, did flee from them naked.

53 P e Isus L-au dus la marele preot, iar acolo s-au adunat toţi conducătorii preoţilor, bătrânii şi cărturarii.

And they led away Jesus unto the chief priest, and come together to him do all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

54 P etru L-a urmat de la distanţă până în curtea marelui preot. S-a aşezat împreună cu gărzile şi se încălzea la foc.

and Peter afar off did follow him, to the inside of the hall of the chief priest, and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself near the fire.

55 C onducătorii preoţilor şi întregul Sinedriu căutau vreo mărturie împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L condamne la moarte, dar n-au găsit,

And the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

56 p entru că, deşi mulţi dădeau mărturii false împotriva Lui, mărturiile lor nu se potriveau.

for many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.

57 U nii s-au ridicat şi au depus împotriva Lui o mărturie falsă, spunând:

And certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

58 „ Noi L-am auzit zicând: «Eu voi dărâma acest Templu, făcut de mâna omului, şi în trei zile voi construi un altul, care nu va fi făcut de mâna omului.»“

`We heard him saying -- I will throw down this sanctuary made with hands, and by three days, another made without hands I will build;'

59 D ar nici măcar în privinţa aceasta nu se potrivea mărturia lor.

and neither so was their testimony alike.

60 M arele preot s-a ridicat, în mijloc, şi L-a întrebat pe Isus: – Nu răspunzi nimic la ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva Ta?

And the chief priest, having risen up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! what do these testify against thee?'

61 D ar El tăcea şi nu răspundea nimic. Marele preot L-a întrebat din nou: – Eşti Tu Cristosul, Fiul Celui Binecuvântat?

and he was keeping silent, and did not answer anything. Again the chief priest was questioning him, and saith to him, `Art thou the Christ -- the Son of the Blessed?'

62 I sus a răspuns: – Sunt. Şi Îl veţi vedea pe Fiul Omului şezând la dreapta Puterii şi venind cu norii cerului!

and Jesus said, `I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

63 A tunci marele preot şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi a zis: – Ce nevoie mai avem de martori?!

And the chief priest, having rent his garments, saith, `What need have we yet of witnesses?

64 A ţi auzit blasfemia! Ce părere aveţi? Toţi L-au condamnat considerând că este vinovat şi vrednic de moarte.

Ye heard the evil speaking, what appeareth to you?' and they all condemned him to be worthy of death,

65 U nii au început să-L scuipe, să-I acopere faţa, să-L lovească şi să-I zică: „Profeţeşte!“, iar gărzile L-au luat la palme. Lepădarea lui Petru

and certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, `Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

66 Î n timp ce Petru se afla jos, în curte, a venit una dintre slujnicele marelui preot

And Peter being in the hall beneath, there doth come one of the maids of the chief priest,

67 ş i când l-a văzut pe Petru încălzindu-se la foc, s-a uitat la el şi a zis: – Şi tu erai cu Isus nazarineanul!

and having seen Peter warming himself, having looked on him, she said, `And thou wast with Jesus of Nazareth!'

68 Î nsă el s-a lepădat zicând: – Nu ştiu, nici nu înţeleg despre ce vorbeşti! A ieşit afară, în faţa porţii, (şi atunci a cântat cocoşul).

and he denied, saying, `I have not known, neither do I understand what thou sayest;' and he went forth without to the porch, and a cock crew.

69 S lujnica l-a văzut şi a început din nou să le spună celor ce stăteau acolo: „Acesta este unul dintre ei!“

And the maid having seen him again, began to say to those standing near -- `This is of them;'

70 Î nsă el s-a lepădat din nou. După puţin timp, cei ce stăteau acolo i-au zis din nou lui Petru: – Cu siguranţă eşti unul dintre ei, căci eşti galileean!

and he was again denying. And after a little again, those standing near said to Peter, `Truly thou art of them, for thou also art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike;'

71 D ar el a început să se blesteme şi să jure zicând: – Nu-L cunosc pe acest om despre care vorbiţi!

and he began to anathematize, and to swear -- `I have not known this man of whom ye speak;'

72 Ş i imediat a cântat cocoşul a doua oară. Atunci Petru şi-a adus aminte cuvântul pe care i-l spusese Isus: „Înainte de al doilea cântat al cocoşului te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!“ Şi a început să plângă.

and a second time a cock crew, and Peter remembered the saying that Jesus said to him -- `Before a cock crow twice, thou mayest deny me thrice;' and having thought thereon -- he was weeping.
