1 A vraam şi-a mai luat o soţie pe care o chema Chetura.

And Abraham addeth and taketh a wife, and her name Keturah;

2 E a i-a născut lui Avraam pe Zimran, Iokşan, Medan, Midian, Işbak şi Şuah.

and she beareth to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 L ui Iokşan i s-au născut Şeba şi Dedan. Urmaşii lui Dedan au fost: aşuriţii, letuşiţii şi leumiţii.

And Jokshan hath begotten Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim;

4 F iii lui Midian au fost: Efa, Efer, Enoh, Abida şi Eldaa. Toţi aceştia au fost fiii Cheturei.

and the sons of Midian Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah: all these sons of Keturah.

5 A vraam i-a dat lui Isaac tot ceea ce avea;

And Abraham giveth all that he hath to Isaac;

6 e l le-a oferit daruri fiilor ţiitoarelor sale şi, pe când era încă în viaţă, i-a trimis de lângă fiul său Isaac spre răsărit, în ţara de la răsărit.

and to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham hath, Abraham hath given gifts, and sendeth them away from Isaac his son (in his being yet alive) eastward, unto the east country.

7 A vraam a trăit o sută şaptezeci şi cinci de ani.

And these the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived, a hundred and seventy and five years;

8 E l şi-a dat ultima suflare, murind după o bătrâneţe fericită, înaintat în vârstă şi sătul de zile; astfel, el a fost adăugat la poporul său.

and Abraham expireth, and dieth in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and is gathered unto his people.

9 F iii săi, Isaac şi Ismael, l-au îngropat în peştera Mahpela din ogorul lui Efron, fiul hititului Ţohar, ogor care se află la răsărit de Mamre

And Isaac and Ishmael his sons bury him at the cave of Machpelah, at the field of Ephron, son of Zoar the Hittite, which before Mamre --

10 ş i pe care Avraam îl cumpărase de la hitiţi. Acolo a fost îngropat Avraam împreună cu soţia lui, Sara.

the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth -- there hath Abraham been buried, and Sarah his wife.

11 D upă moartea lui Avraam, Dumnezeu l-a binecuvântat pe Isaac, fiul acestuia. Isaac s-a aşezat lângă Beer Lahai-Roi. Urmaşii lui Ismael

And it cometh to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blesseth Isaac his son; and Isaac dwelleth by the Well of the Living One, my Beholder.

12 A ceasta este genealogia lui Ismael, fiul lui Avraam, pe care egipteanca Agar, sclava Sarei, i l-a născut lui Avraam

And these births of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, hath borne to Abraham;

13 ş i acestea au fost numele fiilor lui Ismael în ordinea naşterii lor: Nebaiot, întâiul născut al lui Ismael; Chedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

and these the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their births: first-born of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14 M işma, Duma, Masa,

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15 H adad, Tema, Ietur, Nafiş şi Chedma.

Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

16 A ceştia au fost fiii lui Ismael şi acestea au fost numele celor doisprezece prinţi ai triburilor lor, după aşezările şi taberele lor.

these are sons of Ishmael, and these their names, by their villages, and by their towers; twelve princes according to their peoples.

17 I smael a trăit o sută treizeci şi şapte de ani; el şi-a dat ultima suflare şi a murit, fiind adăugat la poporul său.

And these the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty and seven years; and he expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people;

18 E i au locuit în teritoriul dintre Havila şi Şur, care se află la răsărit de Egipt, cum mergi spre Asur şi au trăit separat de toate rudele lor. Esau şi Iacov

and they tabernacle from Havilah unto Shur, which before Egypt, in going towards Asshur; in the presence of all his brethren hath he fallen.

19 A ceasta este genealogia lui Isaac, fiul lui Avraam: lui Avraam i s-a născut Isaac;

And these births of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham hath begotten Isaac;

20 a cesta avea patruzeci de ani când s-a căsătorit cu Rebeca, fiica arameului Betuel din Padan-Aram şi sora arameului Laban.

and Isaac is a son of forty years in his taking Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean, from Padan-Aram, sister of Laban the Aramaean, to him for a wife.

21 I saac s-a rugat Domnului pentru soţia sa, pentru că ea era stearpă. Domnul i-a ascultat rugăciunea, iar Rebeca, soţia lui, a rămas însărcinată.

And Isaac maketh entreaty to Jehovah before his wife, for she barren: and Jehovah is entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceiveth,

22 C opiii se băteau în pântecele ei; de aceea ea a spus: „De ce mi se întâmplă acest lucru?“ Şi s-a dus să-L întrebe pe Domnul.

and the children struggle together within her, and she saith, `If right -- why I thus?' and she goeth to seek Jehovah.

23 D omnul i-a răspuns: „Două neamuri sunt în pântecele tău şi două popoare născute din tine se vor despărţi; unul va fi mai puternic decât celălalt şi cel mai mare îi va sluji celui mai mic.“

And Jehovah saith to her, `Two nations in thy womb, and two peoples from thy bowels are parted; and the people than the people is stronger; and the elder doth serve the younger.'

24 C ând i-a venit timpul să nască, Rebeca avea gemeni în pântece.

And her days to bear are fulfilled, and lo, twins in her womb;

25 P rimul s-a născut roşu şi tot trupul lui era ca o manta de păr; de aceea i-au pus numele Esau.

and the first cometh out all red as a hairy robe, and they call his name Esau;

26 D upă aceea s-a născut fratele său, ţinându-se cu mâna de călcâiul lui Esau; de aceea i s-a pus numele Iacov. Isaac avea şaizeci de ani când Rebeca i-a născut pe cei doi fii.

and afterwards hath his brother come out, and his hand is taking hold on Esau's heel, and one calleth his name Jacob; and Isaac a son of sixty years in her bearing them.

27 C ând băieţii au crescut, Esau a ajuns un vânător priceput, un om al câmpului, dar Iacov era un om liniştit, care locuia în corturi.

And the youths grew, and Esau is a man acquainted hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob a plain man, inhabiting tents;

28 I saac l-a îndrăgit pe Esau, pentru că mânca din vânatul lui, dar Rebeca l-a îndrăgit pe Iacov.

and Isaac loveth Esau, for hunting in his mouth; and Rebekah is loving Jacob.

29 O dată, pe când Iacov făcea o ciorbă, Esau a venit de la câmp obosit.

And Jacob boileth pottage, and Esau cometh in from the field, and he weary;

30 E sau i-a zis lui Iacov: – Dă-mi să mănânc din ciorba aceea roşiatică, pentru că sunt obosit! De aceea lui Esau i s-a mai spus şi Edom.

and Esau saith unto Jacob, `Let me eat, I pray thee, some of this red red thing, for I weary;' therefore hath called his name Edom;

31 I acov i-a răspuns: – Vinde-mi mai întâi dreptul tău de întâi născut.

and Jacob saith, `Sell to-day thy birthright to me.'

32 – Sunt pe moarte, a spus Esau, la ce-mi foloseşte dreptul de întâi născut?

And Esau saith, `Lo, I am going to die, and what is this to me -- birthright?'

33 – Jură-mi mai întâi, i-a cerut Iacov. Esau i-a jurat şi i-a vândut dreptul de întâi născut lui Iacov.

and Jacob saith, `Swear to me to-day:' and he sweareth to him, and selleth his birthright to Jacob;

34 A poi Iacov i-a dat lui Esau nişte pâine şi nişte ciorbă de linte; acesta a mâncat şi a băut, apoi s-a sculat şi a plecat. Astfel, Esau şi-a nesocotit dreptul de întâi născut.

and Jacob hath given to Esau bread and pottage of lentiles, and he eateth, and drinketh, and riseth, and goeth; and Esau despiseth the birthright.
