1 D upă ce au capturat Chivotul lui Dumnezeu, filistenii l-au luat din Eben-Ezer şi l-au adus la Aşdod.

And the Philistines have taken the ark of God, and bring it in from Eben-Ezer to Ashdod,

2 A u luat Chivotul lui Dumnezeu şi l-au pus în templul lui Dagon, aşezându-l lângă acesta.

and the Philistines take the ark of God and bring it into the house of Dagon, and set it near Dagon.

3 C ând s-au trezit dis-de-dimineaţă, aşdodiţii au văzut că Dagon era căzut cu faţa la pământ înaintea Chivotului Domnului. Ei l-au luat pe Dagon şi l-au pus înapoi la locul lui.

And the Ashdodites rise early on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah; and they take Dagon, and put it back to its place.

4 Î n dimineaţa următoare însă, trezindu-se devreme, au văzut că Dagon era din nou căzut cu faţa la pământ înaintea Chivotului Domnului. De data aceasta, capul şi ambele mâini ale lui erau tăiate pe prag, numai trunchiul rămânând din el.

And they rise early in the morning on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Jehovah, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands are cut off at the threshold, only the fishy part hath been left to him;

5 D e aceea, până în ziua de azi, preoţii lui Dagon şi toţi cei ce intră în templul lui din Aşdod nu calcă pe prag.

therefore the priests of Dagon, and all those coming into the house of Dagon, tread not on the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, till this day.

6 M âna Domnului apăsa greu asupra celor din Aşdod, îngrozind şi lovind atât Aşdodul, cât şi împrejurimile sale cu bube.

And the hand of Jehovah is heavy on the Ashdodites, and He maketh them desolate, and smiteth them with emerods, Ashdod and its borders.

7 C ând bărbaţii din Aşdod au văzut ce se întâmplă, au zis: „Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel nu mai trebuie să rămână la noi căci mâna lui apasă asupra noastră şi asupra lui Dagon, zeul nostru.“

And the men of Ashdod see that so, and have said, `The ark of the God of Israel doth not abide with us, for hard hath been His hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.'

8 A stfel, au chemat la o întâlnire pe toţi domnitorii filistenilor şi i-au întrebat: – Ce să facem cu Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel? – Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel să fie dus la Gat! au răspuns ei. Şi au dus acolo Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel.

And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines unto them, and say, `What do we do to the ark of the God of Israel?' and they say, `To Gath let the ark of the God of Israel be brought round;' and they bring round the ark of the God of Israel;

9 D upă ce l-au dus acolo, mâna Domnului a fost împotriva cetăţii, stârnind o panică foarte mare. Domnul a lovit oamenii din cetate, de la copil şi până la bătrân, cu o mulţime de bube.

and it cometh to pass after they have brought it round, that the hand of Jehovah is against the city -- a very great destruction; and He smiteth the men of the city, from small even unto great; and break forth on them do emerods.

10 P rin urmare, au trimis Chivotul lui Dumnezeu la Ekron. Însă când a sosit Chivotul lui Dumnezeu în Ekron, cei din Ekron au început să ţipe spunând: – Au adus la noi Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel ca să ne omoare pe noi şi pe poporul nostru!

And they send the ark of God to Ekron, and it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the ark of God to Ekron, that the Ekronites cry out, saying, `They have brought round unto us the ark of the God of Israel, to put us to death -- and our people.'

11 A u convocat o întâlnire cu toţi domnitorii filistenilor şi le-au spus: – Trimiteţi de la noi Chivotul Dumnezeului lui Israel ca să se întoarcă la locul său şi astfel să nu ne omoare pe noi şi pe poporul nostru – căci era o panică de moarte în toată cetatea, deoarece mâna Domnului apăsa foarte greu acolo.

And they send and gather all the princes of the Philistines, and say, `Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and it turneth back to its place, and it doth not put us to death -- and our people;' for there hath been a deadly destruction throughout all the city, very heavy hath the hand of God been there,

12 C ei care nu mureau, erau loviţi cu bube, iar ţipătul cetăţii se înălţa până la cer.

and the men who have not died have been smitten with emerods, and the cry of the city goeth up into the heavens.
