1 I ată cuvântul spus lui Ieremia din partea Domnului:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 „ Stai la poarta Casei Domnului şi vesteşte acolo următorul mesaj: «Ascultaţi Cuvântul Domnului toţi locuitorii lui Iuda, care intraţi pe aceste porţi ca să vă închinaţi Domnului.

Stand in the gate of the house of Jehovah, and thou hast proclaimed there this word, and hast said, Hear a word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, who are coming in at these gates, to bow before Jehovah:

3 A şa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Îndreptaţi-vă căile şi faptele şi vă voi lăsa să locuiţi în acest loc.

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Amend your ways, and your doings, And I cause you to dwell in this place.

4 N u vă încredeţi în cuvinte înşelătoare, spunând: ‘Acesta este Templul Domnului, Templul Domnului, Templul Domnului!’

Do not trust for yourselves Unto the words of falsehood, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, The temple of Jehovah they!

5 N umai dacă vă îndreptaţi căile şi faptele şi dacă vă veţi face dreptate unul altuia,

For, if ye do thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, If ye do judgment thoroughly Between a man and his neighbour,

6 d acă nu veţi asupri pe străin, pe orfan şi pe văduvă, dacă nu veţi vărsa sânge nevinovat în locul acesta, dacă nu veţi merge după alţi dumnezei, spre nenorocirea voastră,

Sojourner, fatherless, and widow, ye oppress not, And innocent blood do not shed in this place, And after other gods do not walk, for evil to yourselves,

7 n umai atunci vă voi lăsa să locuiţi în locul acesta, în ţara pe care am dat-o strămoşilor voştri din veşnicie în veşnicie.

Then I have caused you to dwell in this place, In the land that I gave to your fathers, From age even unto age.

8 T otuşi voi vă încredeţi în cuvinte înşelătoare care nu vă aduc nici un câştig.

Lo, ye are trusting for yourselves On the words of falsehood, so as not to profit.

9 F uraţi şi ucideţi, comiteţi adulter şi juraţi strâmb, ardeţi tămâie lui Baal şi mergeţi după alţi dumnezei, pe care nu-i cunoaşteţi,

Stealing, murdering, and committing adultery, And swearing to falsehood, and giving perfume to Baal, And going after other gods whom ye knew not.

10 i ar apoi veniţi şi staţi înaintea Mea, în Casa aceasta, peste care este chemat Numele Meu şi ziceţi: ‘Suntem izbăviţi.’ Dar izbăviţi pentru a săvârşi iarăşi aceste urâciuni?

And ye have come in and stood before Me, In this house on which My name is called, And have said, `We have been delivered,' In order to do all these abominations.

11 A devenit Casa aceasta, peste care este chemat Numele Meu, o peşteră de tâlhari în ochii voştri? Eu Însumi am văzut lucrul acesta, zice Domnul.

A den of burglars hath this house, On which My name is called, been in your eyes? Even I, lo, I have seen, an affirmation of Jehovah.

12 D uceţi-vă la locul Meu din Şilo, unde pusesem odinioară să locuiască Numele Meu şi priviţi ce i-am făcut din cauza răutăţii poporului Meu, Israel.

But go ye, I pray you, Unto My place that in Shiloh, Where I caused My name to dwell at first, And see that which I have done to it, For the wickedness of My people Israel.

13 Ş i acum, fiindcă aţi săvârşit toate aceste lucruri, zice Domnul, fiindcă v-am vorbit de la răsăritul soarelui iarăşi şi iarăşi şi nu aţi ascultat, fiindcă v-am chemat şi n-aţi răspuns,

And now, because of your doing all these works, An affirmation of Jehovah, And I speak unto you, rising early and speaking, And ye have not hearkened, And I call you, and ye have not answered,

14 v oi face Casei care poartă Numele Meu, în care voi vă încredeţi, şi locului pe care l-am dat strămoşilor voştri, aşa cum am făcut şi lui Şilo.

I also to the house on which My name is called, In which ye are trusting, And to the place that I gave to you, and to your fathers, Have done, as I have done to Shiloh.

15 V ă voi arunca din prezenţa Mea, cum i-am aruncat pe fraţii voştri, pe toată seminţia lui Efraim.’»

And I have cast you from before My face, As I have cast out all your brethren, The whole seed of Ephraim.

16 T u însă nu mijloci în favoarea acestui popor, nu înălţa nici cereri, nici rugăciuni în favoarea lor şi nu stărui, căci nu te voi asculta.

And thou dost not pray for this people, Nor lift up for them crying and prayer, Nor intercede with Me, for I hear thee not.

17 N u vezi ce fac ei în cetăţile lui Iuda şi pe străzile Ierusalimului?

Art thou not seeing what they are doing In cities of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem?

18 C opiii strâng lemne, taţii aprind focul, femeile frământă aluatul ca să facă turte împărătesei cerului. Ei toarnă jertfe de băutură altor dumnezei ca să Mă mânie.

The sons are gathering wood, And the fathers are causing the fire to burn, And the women are kneading dough, To make cakes to the queen of the heavens, And to pour out libations to other gods, So as to provoke Me to anger.

19 D ar oare pe Mine Mă provoacă? zice Domnul. Nu îşi fac ei rău mai degrabă lor înşişi şi spre ruşinea lor?

Me are they provoking to anger? an affirmation of Jehovah, Is it not themselves, For the shame of their own faces?

20 D e aceea, aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: «Iată, mânia şi furia Mea se vor revărsa peste locul acesta, peste oameni şi peste animale, peste copacii din câmpie şi peste roadele pământului. El va arde şi nu va putea fi stins.»“

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah, Lo, Mine anger and My fury is poured out on this place, On man, and beast, and on tree of the field, And on fruit of the ground, And it hath burned, and it is not quenched.

21 „ Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Haideţi, adăugaţi arderile voastre de tot la jertfele voastre şi mâncaţi carnea!

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Your burnt-offerings add to your sacrifices, And eat ye flesh.

22 E u însă n-am vorbit şi nu le-am dat nici o porunc ă strămoşilor voştri cu privire la arderi de tot şi jertfe, în ziua când i-am scos din ţara Egiptului,

For I did not speak with your fathers, Nor did I command them in the day of My bringing them out of the land of Egypt, Concerning the matters of burnt-offering and sacrifice,

23 c i iată porunca pe care le-am dat-o: ‘Ascultaţi de glasul Meu şi astfel Eu vă voi fi Dumnezeu, iar voi veţi fi poporul Meu. Să umblaţi în toate căile pe care vi le poruncesc, ca să vă fie bine.’

But this thing I commanded them, saying: Hearken to My voice, And I have been to you for God, And ye -- ye are to Me for a people, And have walked in all the way that I command you, So that it is well for you.

24 D ar ei n-au ascultat şi nici n-au luat aminte, ci au urmat sfaturile şi pornirile inimii lor rele şi au mers înapoi, nu înainte.

And they have not hearkened, nor inclined their ear, And they walk in the counsels, In the stubbornness, of their evil heart, And are for backward, and not for forward.

25 D in ziua când strămoşii voştri au ieşit din ţara Egiptului şi până astăzi, zi după zi, iarăşi şi iarăşi, vi i-am trimis pe slujitorii Mei, profeţii.

Even from the day when your fathers Went out of the land of Egypt till this day, I send to you all my servants the prophets, Daily rising early and sending,

26 D ar voi nu M-aţi ascultat şi nici nu aţi luat aminte. V-aţi încăpăţânat şi aţi făcut mai rău decât strămoşii voştri.»

And they have not hearkened unto Me, Nor inclined their ear, and harden their neck, They have done evil above their fathers.

27 C ând le vei spune toate aceste cuvinte, ei nu te vor asculta; când îi vei striga, ei nu vor răspunde.

And thou hast spoken unto them all these words, And they do not hearken to thee, And thou hast called unto them, And they do not answer thee.

28 D e aceea, să le spui astfel: «Acesta este poporul care nu ascultă glasul Domnului şi care nu ia aminte la disciplinare. Adevărul a pierit, a fugit din gura lor.»

And thou hast said unto them: This the nation that hath not hearkened, To the voice of Jehovah its God, Nor have they accepted instruction, Perished hath stedfastness, Yea, it hath been cut off from their mouth.

29 T aie-ţi părul şi aruncă-l. Fă o cântare de jale pe înălţimi, căci Domnul a lepădat şi a părăsit această generaţie, care L-a mâniat.

Cut off thy crown, and cast away, And lift up on high places lamentation, For Jehovah hath rejected, And He leaveth the generation of His wrath.

30 C opiii lui Iuda au făcut ce este rău înaintea Mea, zice Domnul. Şi-au aşezat idolii lor urâcioşi în Casa peste care este chemat Numele Meu şi au pângărit-o.

For the sons of Judah Have done the evil thing in Mine eyes, An affirmation of Jehovah, They have set their abominations in the house On which My name is called -- to defile it,

31 A u zidit locuri înalte la Tofet, în valea Ben-Hinom, ca să-şi ardă în foc fiii şi fiicele, lucru pe care nu l-am poruncit şi care nici nu mi-a trecut prin minte.

And have built the high places of Tophet, That in the valley of the son of Hinnom, To burn their sons and their daughters with fire, Which I did not command, Nor did it come up on My heart.

32 D e aceea, iată, vin zile, zice Domnul, când nu se va mai zice Tofet şi valea Ben-Hinom, ci Valea Măcelului, deoarece vor îngropa morţii la Tofet, din lipsă de loc.

Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And it is not said any more, `The Tophet,' And `Valley of the son of Hinnom,' But `Valley of the slaughter,' And they have buried in Tophet -- without place.

33 H oiturile poporului acestuia vor fi hrană pentru păsările cerului şi pentru animalele pământului şi nimeni nu le va speria.

And the carcase of this people hath been for food To a fowl of the heavens, and to a beast of the earth, And there is none troubling.

34 V oi face să înceteze în cetăţile lui Iuda şi pe străzile Ierusalimului strigătele de bucurie şi de veselie, cântecele mirelui şi ale miresei, căci ţara va deveni un pustiu.

And I have caused to cease from cities of Judah, And from streets of Jerusalem, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, Voice of bridegroom, and voice of bride, For the land doth become a desolation!
