1 T eofilus, În prima carte am scris despre toate lucrurile pe care a început Isus să le facă şi să-i înveţe pe oameni

The former account, indeed, I made concerning all things, O Theophilus, that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

2 p ână în ziua în care a fost luat în cer, după ce le dăduse mai întâi porunci, prin Duhul Sfânt, apostolilor pe care-i alesese.

till the day in which, having given command, through the Holy Spirit, to the apostles whom he did choose out, he was taken up,

3 D upă suferinţa Lui, li S-a înfăţişat viu, prin multe dovezi convingătoare, arătându-li-Se deseori timp de patruzeci de zile şi vorbind despre Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.

to whom also he did present himself alive after his suffering, in many certain proofs, through forty days being seen by them, and speaking the things concerning the reign of God.

4 Î n timp ce se afla laolaltă cu ei, le-a poruncit astfel: „Să nu vă îndepărtaţi de Ierusalim, ci să aşteptaţi promisiunea Tatălui, despre care aţi auzit de la Mine.

And being assembled together with them, he commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, `Ye did hear of me;

5 C ăci Ioan a botezat cu apă, dar voi, nu după multe zile, veţi fi botezaţi cu Duhul Sfânt.“

because John, indeed, baptized with water, and ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit -- after not many days.'

6 P rin urmare, atunci când s-au strâns laolaltă, ei L-au întrebat: – Doamne, în vremea aceasta vei restaura împărăţia lui Israel?

They, therefore, indeed, having come together, were questioning him, saying, `Lord, dost thou at this time restore the reign to Israel?'

7 E l le-a răspuns: – Nu este treaba voastră să cunoaşteţi vremurile sau momentele pe care Tatăl le-a aşezat prin propria Sa autoritate.

and he said unto them, `It is not yours to know times or seasons that the Father did appoint in His own authority;

8 V oi însă veţi primi putere atunci când va veni Duhul Sfânt peste voi şi-Mi veţi fi martori în Ierusalim, în toată Iudeea, în Samaria şi până la marginile pământului.

but ye shall receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit upon you, and ye shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.'

9 D upă ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a fost înălţat şi, în timp ce ei se uitau, un nor L-a luat dinaintea ochilor lor.

And these things having said -- they beholding -- he was taken up, and a cloud did receive him up from their sight;

10 Ş i cum priveau ei spre cer, în timp ce El pleca, iată că li s-au înfăţişat doi bărbaţi îmbrăcaţi în haine albe,

and as they were looking stedfastly to the heaven in his going on, then, lo, two men stood by them in white apparel,

11 c are le-au zis: „Bărbaţi galileeni, de ce staţi şi vă uitaţi spre cer?! Acest Isus, Care a fost luat în cer de la voi, va veni în acelaşi fel în care L-aţi văzut mergând spre cer.“ Matia ales în locul lui Iuda

who also said, `Men, Galileans, why do ye stand gazing into the heaven? this Jesus who was received up from you into the heaven, shall so come in what manner ye saw him going on to the heaven.'

12 A tunci ei s-au întors în Ierusalim de pe muntele numit „al Măslinilor“, care este lângă Ierusalim, departe cât un drum parcurs în ziua de Sabat.

Then did they return to Jerusalem from the mount that is called of Olives, that is near Jerusalem, a sabbath's journey;

13 C ând au intrat în casă, au urcat în camera de sus, unde stăteau de obicei. Acolo erau: Petru, Ioan, Iacov, Andrei, Filip, Toma, Bartolomeu, Matei, Iacov – fiul lui Alfeus –, Simon zelotul şi Iuda – fiul lui Iacov.

and when they came in, they went up to the upper room, where were abiding both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James, of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zelotes, and Judas, of James;

14 T oţi aceştia stăruiau în rugăciune în acelaşi gând, împreună cu femeile, cu Maria – mama lui Isus – şi cu fraţii Lui.

these all were continuing with one accord in prayer and supplication, with women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 Î n zilele acelea, Petru s-a ridicat în mijlocul fraţilor, o mulţime de aproape o sută douăzeci de oameni, şi le-a zis:

And in these days, Peter having risen up in the midst of the disciples, said, (the multitude also of the names at the same place was, as it were, an hundred and twenty,)

16 „ Bărbaţi, fraţilor, trebuia să se împlinească Scriptura spusă mai dinainte de Duhul Sfânt, prin gura lui David, cu privire la Iuda, care a devenit călăuza celor ce L-au arestat pe Isus.

`Men, brethren, it behoved this Writing that it be fulfilled that beforehand the Holy Spirit spake through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus,

17 E l era numărat ca fiind unul dintre noi şi fusese ales să ia parte la această slujire.

because he was numbered among us, and did receive the share in this ministration,

18 ( Din răsplata pentru nelegiuirea lui, omul acesta şi-a cumpărat un ogor şi, căzând cu capul în jos, a plesnit în două pe la mijloc şi i s-au vărsat toate intestinele în acel loc.

this one, indeed, then, purchased a field out of the reward of unrighteousness, and falling headlong, burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed forth,

19 L ucrul acesta a devenit cunoscut tuturor locuitorilor din Ierusalim, astfel că ogorul acela a fost numit, în limba lor, „ Acheldama “, adică „Ogorul sângelui“.)

and it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem, insomuch that that place is called, in their proper dialect, Aceldama, that is, field of blood,

20 C ăci în cartea Psalmilor este scris: «Fie-i locuinţa pustiită şi nimeni să nu mai locuiască în ea!» şi «Slujba lui s-o ia altul!»

for it hath been written in the book of Psalms: Let his lodging-place become desolate, and let no one be dwelling in it, and his oversight let another take.

21 T rebuie deci ca, dintre bărbaţii care ne-au însoţit în toată perioada în care Domnul Isus a umblat printre noi,

`It behoveth, therefore, of the men who did go with us during all the time in which the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

22 î ncepând de la botezul lui Ioan şi până în ziua în care Isus a fost luat sus de la noi, unul din aceştia să devină împreună cu noi un martor al învierii Lui.“

beginning from the baptism of John, unto the day in which he was received up from us, one of these to become with us a witness of his rising again.'

23 Ş i au propus doi: pe Iosif, numit Barsabas, căruia i se mai zicea şi Iustus, şi pe Matias.

And they set two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias,

24 E i s-au rugat astfel: „Tu, Doamne, Care cunoşti inimile tuturor, arată-ne pe care dintre aceştia doi l-ai ales

and having prayed, they said, `Thou, Lord, who art knowing the heart of all, shew which one thou didst choose of these two

25 c a să ia locul în slujirea şi apostolia aceasta, de la care s-a abătut Iuda ca să se ducă la locul lui!“

to receive the share of this ministration and apostleship, from which Judas, by transgression, did fall, to go on to his proper place;'

26 A u tras la sorţi şi sorţul a căzut pe Matias, care a fost socotit împreună cu cei unsprezece apostoli.

and they gave their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
