1 C hiar în ziua în care se împlineau trei luni de la ieşirea israeliţilor din ţara Egiptului, ei au ajuns în pustia Sinai.

In the third month of the going out of the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, in this day they have come into the wilderness of Sinai,

2 D upă ce părăsiseră Refidimul, au intrat în pustia Sinai şi şi-au aşezat tabăra în pustie, înaintea muntelui.

and they journey from Rephidim, and enter the wilderness of Sinai, and encamp in the wilderness; and Israel encampeth there before the mount.

3 A colo Moise s-a suit la Dumnezeu. Domnul l-a chemat de pe munte şi i-a zis: „Aşa să vorbeşti casei lui Iacov; iată ce să le spui israeliţilor:

And Moses hath gone up unto God, and Jehovah calleth unto him out of the mount, saying, `Thus dost thou say to the house of Jacob, and declare to the sons of Israel,

4 « Aţi văzut ce le-am făcut egiptenilor, cum v-am purtat pe aripi de vultur şi v-am adus la Mine.

Ye -- ye have seen that which I have done to the Egyptians, and I bear you on eagles' wings, and bring you in unto Myself.

5 D e aceea, acum, dacă veţi asculta de glasul Meu şi veţi păzi legământul Meu, veţi fi comoara Mea dintre toate popoarele, căci tot pământul este al Meu.

`And now, if ye really hearken to My voice, then ye have kept My covenant, and been to Me a peculiar treasure more than all the peoples, for all the earth Mine;

6 V oi Îmi veţi fi o împărăţie de preoţi şi un neam sfânt.» Acestea sunt cuvintele pe care să le spui israeliţilor.“

and ye -- ye are to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation: these the words which thou dost speak unto the sons of Israel.'

7 M oise s-a întors, a convocat sfatul bătrânilor şi le-a zis toate cuvintele pe care Domnul i le-a poruncit.

And Moses cometh, and calleth for the elders of the people, and setteth before them all these words which Jehovah hath commanded him;

8 Ş i tot poporul i-a răspuns într-un singur glas: „Vom face tot ce a zis Domnul. “ Moise I-a spus Domnului răspunsul poporului. Sfinţirea poporului

and all the people answer together and say, `All that Jehovah hath spoken we do;' and Moses returneth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

9 A tunci Domnul i-a zis lui Moise: „Voi veni la tine într-un nor gros, pentru ca poporul să audă când îţi vorbesc şi să aibă întotdeauna încredere în tine.“ Tot atunci, când Moise I-a spus Domnului răspunsul poporului,

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am coming unto thee in the thickness of the cloud, so that the people hear in My speaking with thee, and also believe in thee to the age;' and Moses declareth the words of the people unto Jehovah.

10 D omnul i-a mai zis: „Du-te la popor şi sfinţeşte-l azi şi mâine. Să-şi spele hainele

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go unto the people; and thou hast sanctified them to-day and to-morrow, and they have washed their garments,

11 ş i să se pregătească pentru a treia zi, pentru că atunci Domnul Se va coborî pe muntele Sinai în faţa întregului popor.

and have been prepared for the third day; for on the third day doth Jehovah come down before the eyes of all the people, on mount Sinai.

12 S ă pui de jur împrejur limite pentru popor şi să-i zici: «Aveţi grijă să nu vă urcaţi pe munte, nici să nu-i atingeţi poalele, pentru că, oricine se va atinge de munte, va fi pedepsit cu moartea.»

`And thou hast made a border the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, going up into the mount, or coming against its extremity; whoever is coming against the mount is certainly put to death;

13 N ici măcar o mână să nu-l atingă; dacă-l va atinge cineva, să fie omorât cu pietre sau străpuns cu săgeţi; indiferent ce va fi, om sau animal, să nu trăiască! Când trâmbiţa va suna, poporul să se apropie de munte.“

a hand cometh not against him, for he is certainly stoned or shot through, whether beast or man it liveth not; in the drawing out of the jubilee cornet they go up into the mount.'

14 M oise s-a coborât de pe munte la popor. A sfinţit poporul şi acesta şi-a spălat hainele.

And Moses cometh down from the mount unto the people, and sanctifieth the people, and they wash their garments;

15 M oise le-a zis celor din popor: „Fiecare din voi să fie pregătit pentru a treia zi; până atunci nimeni să nu se apropie de soţia lui!“

and he saith unto the people, `Be ye prepared for the third day, come not nigh unto a woman.'

16 Î n dimineaţa celei de-a treia zi au fost tunete şi fulgere; un nor gros acoperea muntele şi un sunet de trâmbiţă se auzea foarte puternic. Tot poporul din tabără tremura.

And it cometh to pass, on the third day, while it is morning, that there are voices, and lightnings, and a heavy cloud, on the mount, and the sound of a trumpet very strong; and all the people who in the camp do tremble.

17 M oise a scos poporul din tabără ca să-L întâlnească pe Dumnezeu. Oamenii au stat la poalele muntelui.

And Moses bringeth out the people to meet God from the camp, and they station themselves at the lower part of the mount,

18 M untele Sinai era acoperit cu fum, pentru că Domnul S-a coborât pe el în foc. Fumul se înălţa ca fumul unui cuptor şi tot muntele se cutremura cu putere.

and mount Sinai wholly a smoke from the presence of Jehovah, who hath come down on it in fire, and its smoke goeth up as smoke of the furnace, and the whole mount trembleth exceedingly;

19 Î n timp ce trâmbiţa suna din ce în ce mai tare, Moise vorbea, şi glasul lui Dumnezeu îi răspundea.

and the sound of the trumpet is going on, and very strong; Moses speaketh, and God doth answer him with a voice.

20 C ând Domnul S-a coborât pe vârful muntelui Sinai, El l-a chemat pe Moise pe vârful muntelui, iar Moise s-a suit acolo.

And Jehovah cometh down on mount Sinai, unto the top of the mount, and Jehovah calleth for Moses unto the top of the mount, and Moses goeth up.

21 A poi Domnul i-a zis: – Coboară şi avertizează poporul să nu se apropie să se uite la Domnul, pentru ca nu cumva să piară mulţi dintre ei.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go down, protest to the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to see, and many of them have fallen;

22 C hiar şi preoţii care se apropie de Domnul trebuie să se sfinţească, căci doar aşa Domnul nu-i va nimici.

and also the priests who are coming nigh unto Jehovah do sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.'

23 M oise I-a răspuns Domnului: – Poporul nu are voie să se apropie de muntele Sinai, pentru că Tu Însuţi ne-ai avertizat zicând: „Pune limite în jurul muntelui şi păstrează-l sfânt.“

And Moses saith unto Jehovah, `The people unable to come up unto mount Sinai, for Thou -- Thou hast protested to us, saying, Make a border the mount, then thou hast sanctified it.'

24 D omnul i-a zis: – Coboară şi adu-l cu tine pe Aaron, dar nu lăsa nici preoţii, nici poporul să se apropie şi să se suie la Domnul, ca să nu-i nimicească.

And Jehovah saith unto him, `Go, descend, then thou hast come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; and the priests and the people do not break through, to come up unto Jehovah, lest He break forth upon them.'

25 M oise s-a coborât la popor şi a vorbit cu ei.

And Moses goeth down unto the people, and saith unto them: --
