1 C ând s-a făcut dimineaţă, toţi conducătorii preoţilor şi bătrânii poporului au ţinut sfat împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L condamne la moarte.

And morning having come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so as to put him to death;

2 L -au legat, L-au dus şi L-au dat pe mâna lui Pilat, guvernatorul. Iuda se spânzură

and having bound him, they did lead away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.

3 A tunci lui Iuda, trădătorul, când a văzut că Isus a fost condamnat, i-a părut rău şi a dus înapoi cei treizeci de arginţi la conducătorii preoţilor şi la bătrâni,

Then Judas -- he who delivered him up -- having seen that he was condemned, having repented, brought back the thirty silverlings to the chief priests, and to the elders, saying,

4 z icând: – Am păcătuit, căci am trădat sânge nevinovat! Ei i-au răspuns: – Ce ne pasă nouă? Treaba ta!

`I did sin, having delivered up innocent blood;' and they said, `What -- to us? thou shalt see!'

5 E l a aruncat arginţii în Templu şi a plecat. Apoi s-a dus şi s-a spânzurat.

and having cast down the silverlings in the sanctuary, he departed, and having gone away, he did strangle himself.

6 C onducătorii preoţilor au luat arginţii şi au zis: „Nu este voie să fie puşi în vistierie, pentru că sunt preţ de sânge“.

And the chief priests having taken the silverlings, said, `It is not lawful to put them to the treasury, seeing it is the price of blood;'

7 Ş i după ce s-au sfătuit, au cumpărat cu ei ogorul olarului ca loc de înmormântare pentru străini.

and having taken counsel, they bought with them the field of the potter, for the burial of strangers;

8 I ată de ce ogorul acela a fost numit „Ogorul Sângelui“ până în ziua de astăzi.

therefore was that field called, `Field of blood,' unto this day.

9 A tunci s-a împlinit ceea ce a fost spus prin profetul Ieremia, care zice: „Au luat cei treizeci de arginţi, preţul pus pe El, la care a fost apreciat de către fiii lui Israel,

Then was fulfilled that spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `And I took the thirty silverlings, the price of him who hath been priced, whom they of the sons of Israel did price,

10 ş i i-au dat pe ogorul olarului, după cum mi-a poruncit Domnul“. Isus înaintea lui Pilat

and gave them for the field of the potter, as the Lord did appoint to me.'

11 I sus a fost adus deci înaintea guvernatorului. Guvernatorul L-a întrebat: – Eşti Tu Împăratul iudeilor? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui.

And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor did question him, saying, `Art thou the king of the Jews!' And Jesus said to him, `Thou sayest.'

12 D ar când a fost acuzat de conducătorii preoţilor şi de bătrâni, n-a răspuns nimic.

And in his being accused by the chief priests and the elders, he did not answer any thing,

13 A tunci Pilat I-a zis: – Nu auzi de câte lucruri Te învinuiesc ei?

then saith Pilate to him, `Dost thou not hear how many things they witness against thee?'

14 D ar Isus nu i-a răspuns nici măcar cu un cuvânt, spre marea mirare a guvernatorului.

And he did not answer him, not even to one word, so that the governor did wonder greatly.

15 G uvernatorul obişnuia ca la fiecare sărbătoare să elibereze pentru mulţime un prizonier pe care-l voiau ei.

And at the feast the governor had been accustomed to release one to the multitude, a prisoner, whom they willed,

16 L a acea vreme aveau un prizonier vestit, numit (Isus ) Baraba.

and they had then a noted prisoner, called Barabbas,

17 A şadar, după ce mulţimea a fost adunată, Pilat i-a întrebat: – Pe cine vreţi să vi-l eliberez, pe (Isus) Baraba sau pe Isus, Cel numit Cristos?

they therefore having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, `Whom will ye I shall release to you? Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?'

18 C ăci el ştia că din invidie Îl dăduseră pe mâna lui.

for he had known that because of envy they had delivered him up.

19 Î n timp ce stătea pe scaunul de judecată, soţia lui a trimis să-i spună: „Să n-ai nimic de-a face cu Acel Om drept, pentru că azi am suferit mult în vis din cauza Lui!“

And as he is sitting on the tribunal, his wife sent unto him, saying, `Nothing -- to thee and to that righteous one, for many things did I suffer to-day in a dream because of him.'

20 D ar conducătorii preoţilor şi bătrânii au convins mulţimile să-l ceară pe Baraba, iar Isus să fie omorât.

And the chief priests and the elders did persuade the multitudes that they might ask for themselves Barabbas, and might destroy Jesus;

21 G uvernatorul i-a întrebat iarăşi: – Pe care dintre aceştia doi vreţi să vi-l eliberez? – Pe Baraba! au răspuns ei.

and the governor answering said to them, `Which of the two will ye I shall release to you?' And they said, `Barabbas.'

22 P ilat a zis: – Şi atunci ce să fac cu Isus, numit Cristos? Ei au răspuns cu toţii: – Să fie răstignit!

Pilate saith to them, `What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?' They all say to him, `Let be crucified!'

23 E l i-a întrebat: – Dar ce rău a făcut? Însă ei strigau şi mai tare: – Să fie răstignit!

And the governor said, `Why, what evil did he?' and they were crying out the more, saying, `Let be crucified.'

24 C ând a văzut Pilat că nu ajunge nicăieri, ci că mai degrabă se face zarvă, a luat apă şi s-a spălat pe mâini înaintea mulţimii, spunând: – Eu sunt nevinovat de sângele Acestui Om! Treaba voastră!

And Pilate having seen that it profiteth nothing, but rather a tumult is made, having taken water, he did wash the hands before the multitude, saying, `I am innocent from the blood of this righteous one; ye -- ye shall see;'

25 T ot poporul i-a răspuns: – Sângele Lui să fie peste noi şi peste copiii noştri!

and all the people answering said, `His blood upon us, and upon our children!'

26 A tunci li l-a eliberat pe Baraba, iar pe Isus, după ce a pus să-L biciuiască, L-a dat să fie răstignit. Isus, batjocorit de soldaţi

Then did he release to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered up that he may be crucified;

27 A tunci soldaţii guvernatorului L-au adus pe Isus în pretoriu şi au adunat în jurul Lui toată cohorta.

then the soldiers of the governor having taken Jesus to the Praetorium, did gather to him all the band;

28 L -au dezbrăcat şi au pus pe El o mantie stacojie,

and having unclothed him, they put around him a crimson cloak,

29 a u împletit o coroană de spini, I-au aşezat-o pe cap, I-au pus o trestie în mâna dreaptă şi apoi au îngenuncheat înaintea Lui şi şi-au bătut joc de El, zicând: „Să trăiți, Împărate al iudeilor!“

and having plaited him a crown out of thorns they put on his head, and a reed in his right hand, and having kneeled before him, they were mocking him, saying, `Hail, the king of the Jews.'

30 E i Îl scuipau, Îi luau trestia şi-L loveau peste cap.

And having spit on him, they took the reed, and were smiting on his head;

31 D upă ce şi-au bătut joc de El astfel, L-au dezbrăcat de mantie, L-au îmbrăcat cu hainele Lui şi L-au dus să-L răstignească. Răstignirea

and when they had mocked him, they took off from him the cloak, and put on him his own garments, and led him away to crucify.

32 C ând au ieşit, au găsit un om din Cirena, pe nume Simon, şi l-au obligat pe acesta să ducă crucea lui Isus.

And coming forth, they found a man, a Cyrenian, by name Simon: him they impressed that he might bear his cross;

33 C ând au ajuns la locul numit Golgota, căruia i se mai zice şi „Locul Craniului“,

and having come to a place called Golgotha, that is called Place of a Skull,

34 I -au dat să bea vin amestecat cu fiere, dar când l-a gustat, n-a vrut să-l bea.

they gave him to drink vinegar mixed with gall, and having tasted, he would not drink.

35 D upă ce L-au răstignit, şi-au împărţit hainele Lui între ei, trăgând la sorţi.

And having crucified him, they divided his garments, casting a lot, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the prophet, `They divided my garments to themselves, and over my vesture they cast a lot;'

36 A poi s-au aşezat jos şi Îl păzeau acolo.

and sitting down, they were watching him there,

37 Î i puseseră deasupra capului următoarea acuzaţie: „Acesta este Isus, Împăratul iudeilor“.

and they put up over his head, his accusation written, `This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.'

38 T ot atunci au fost răstigniţi cu El şi doi tâlhari, unul la dreapta şi unul la stânga Lui.

Then crucified with him are two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on the left,

39 C ei ce treceau pe acolo Îl insultau, dădeau din cap

and those passing by were speaking evil of him, wagging their heads,

40 ş i ziceau: „Tu, Cel Care dărâmi Templul şi-l reconstruieşti în trei zile, salvează-Te pe Tine Însuţi, dacă eşti Fiul lui Dumnezeu, (şi) dă-Te jos de pe cruce!“

and saying, `Thou that art throwing down the sanctuary, and in three days building, save thyself; if Son thou art of God, come down from the cross.'

41 T ot aşa Îl batjocoreau şi conducătorii preoţilor, împreună cu cărturarii şi bătrânii, zicând:

And in like manner also the chief priests mocking, with the scribes and elders, said,

42 „ Pe alţii i-a salvat, dar pe Sine Însuşi nu Se poate salva! Doar este Împăratul lui Israel! Să Se coboare acum de pe cruce şi vom crede în El!

`Others he saved; himself he is not able to save! If he be King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe him;

43 S -a încrezut în Dumnezeu, să-L scape acum Dumnezeu dacă vrea! Căci a zis: «Eu sunt Fiul lui Dumnezeu!»“

he hath trusted on God, let Him now deliver him, if He wish him, because he said -- Son of God I am;'

44 L a fel Îl batjocoreau şi tâlharii care erau răstigniţi împreună cu El. Moartea lui Isus

with the same also the robbers, who were crucified with him, were reproaching him.

45 D e la ceasul al şaselea şi până la ceasul al nouălea s-a făcut întuneric peste toată ţara.

And from the sixth hour darkness came over all the land unto the ninth hour,

46 Ş i pe la ceasul al nouălea, Isus a strigat cu glas tare: „ Eli, Eli, lema sabactani ?“, care înseamnă „Dumnezeul Meu, Dumnezeul Meu, de ce M-ai părăsit?“

and about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a great voice, saying, `Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' that is, `My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?'

47 U nii dintre cei ce stăteau acolo L-au auzit şi au zis: „Acest Om îl strigă pe Ilie!“

And certain of those standing there having heard, said -- `Elijah he doth call;'

48 I mediat unul dintre ei a alergat şi a luat un burete, l-a umplut cu vin acru, l-a pus într-o trestie şi I l-a dat să-l bea.

and immediately, one of them having run, and having taken a spunge, having filled with vinegar, and having put on a reed, was giving him to drink,

49 D ar ceilalţi ziceau: „Lasă să vedem dacă vine Ilie să-L salveze!“

but the rest said, `Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come -- about to save him.'

50 I sus a strigat din nou cu glas tare şi apoi Şi-a dat duhul.

And Jesus having again cried with a great voice, yielded the spirit;

51 Ş i iată că draperia Templului a fost despicată în două, de sus până jos; pământul s-a cutremurat, stâncile s-au despicat,

and lo, the vail of the sanctuary was rent in two from top unto bottom, and the earth did quake, and the rocks were rent,

52 m ormintele s-au deschis şi multe trupuri ale sfinţilor care muriseră au fost înviate.

and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who have fallen asleep, arose,

53 E i au ieşit din morminte, după învierea Lui, au intrat în Cetatea Sfântă şi li s-au arătat multora.

and having come forth out of the tombs after his rising, they went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

54 C enturionul şi cei ce-L păzeau pe Isus împreună cu el au văzut cutremurul şi cele întâmplate şi s-au înspăimântat foarte tare. Ei au zis: „Într-adevăr, Acesta era Fiul lui Dumnezeu!“

And the centurion, and those with him watching Jesus, having seen the earthquake, and the things that were done, were exceedingly afraid, saying, `Truly this was God's Son.'

55 A colo mai erau şi multe femei care priveau de departe, cele care Îl urmaseră pe Isus din Galileea şi Îi slujiseră.

And there were there many women beholding from afar, who did follow Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him,

56 P rintre ele erau Maria Magdalena, Maria – mama lui Iacov şi a lui Iosif – şi mama fiilor lui Zebedei. Înmormântarea lui Isus

among whom was Mary the Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and of Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57 C ând s-a făcut seară, a venit un om bogat din Arimateea, pe nume Iosif, care fusese şi el ucenic al lui Isus.

And evening having come, there came a rich man, from Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was discipled to Jesus,

58 A cesta s-a dus la Pilat şi i-a cerut trupul lui Isus. Atunci Pilat a poruncit să-i fie dat.

he having gone near to Pilate, asked for himself the body of Jesus; then Pilate commanded the body to be given back.

59 I osif a luat trupul, L-a înfăşurat într-o pânză de in curată

And having taken the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen,

60 ş i L-a pus într-un mormânt nou de-al lui, mormânt pe care-l săpase în stâncă. Apoi a rostogolit o piatră mare la intrarea mormântului şi a plecat.

and laid it in his new tomb, that he hewed in the rock, and having rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, he went away;

61 M aria Magdalena şi cealaltă Marie erau şi ele acolo, aşezate înaintea mormântului. Mormântul este păzit

and there were there Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over-against the sepulchre.

62 A doua zi, cea de după Ziua Pregătirii, conducătorii preoţilor şi fariseii s-au adunat împreună la Pilat

And on the morrow that is after the preparation, were gathered together the chief priests, and the Pharisees, unto Pilate,

63 ş i i-au zis: – Stăpâne, ne-am adus aminte că înşelătorul acela, în timp ce trăia, a zis: „După trei zile voi învia!“

saying, `Sir, we have remembered that that deceiver said while yet living, After three days I do rise;

64 A şadar, porunceşte ca mormântul să fie păzit până a treia zi, ca nu cumva ucenicii Lui să vină şi să-L fure, iar apoi să spună poporului: „A fost înviat din morţi!“ Atunci această înşelăciune din urmă ar fi mai rea decât prima!

command, then, the sepulchre to be made secure till the third day, lest his disciples, having come by night, may steal him away, and may say to the people, He rose from the dead, and the last deceit shall be worse than the first.'

65 P ilat le-a răspuns: – Aveţi o gardă; duceţi-vă şi păziţi-L cum ştiţi!

And Pilate said to them, `Ye have a watch, go away, make secure -- as ye have known;'

66 E i s-au dus şi au luat măsuri pentru paza mormântului, sigilând piatra şi lăsând garda acolo.

and they, having gone, did make the sepulchre secure, having sealed the stone, together with the watch.
