1 Î ntr-una din zile, în timp ce Isus dădea învăţătură poporului în Templu şi vestea Evanghelia, au venit conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii împreună cu bătrânii

And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he is teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming good news, the chief priests and the scribes, with the elders, came upon,

2 ş i L-au întrebat: – Spune-ne, cu ce autoritate faci aceste lucruri şi cine Ţi-a dat această autoritate?

and spake unto him, saying, `Tell us by what authority thou dost these things? or who is he that gave to thee this authority?'

3 E l le-a răspuns: – Vă voi pune şi Eu o întrebare. Spuneţi-Mi:

And he answering said unto them, `I will question you -- I also -- one thing, and tell me:

4 b otezul lui Ioan era din cer sau de la oameni?

the baptism of John, from heaven was it, or from men?'

5 E i au început să discute între ei şi să zică: „Dacă vom răspunde: «Din cer!», ne va întreba: « Atunci de ce nu l-aţi crezut?»,

And they reasoned with themselves, saying -- `If we may say, From heaven, he will say, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?

6 i ar dacă vom răspunde: «De la oameni!», tot poporul ne va ucide cu pietre, fiindcă este convins că Ioan a fost un profet.“

and if we may say, From men, all the people will stone us, for they are having been persuaded John to be a prophet.'

7 A şa că I-au răspuns că nu ştiu de unde era.

And they answered, that they knew not whence,

8 A tunci şi Isus le-a zis: – Nici Eu nu vă spun cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri. Pilda vierilor

and Jesus said to them, `Neither do I say to you by what authority I do these things.'

9 A poi a început să spună poporului următoarea pildă: „Un om a plantat o vie, a arendat-o unor viticultori şi a plecat într-o călătorie pentru o vreme îndelungată.

And he began to speak unto the people this simile: `A certain man planted a vineyard, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time,

10 L a vremea roadelor a trimis un sclav la viticultori, ca să-i dea partea cuvenită din rodul viei. Viticultorii însă l-au bătut şi l-au trimis înapoi cu mâinile goale.

and at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that from the fruit of the vineyard they may give to him, but the husbandmen having beat him, did send away empty.

11 A mai trimis un alt sclav, dar şi pe acela l-au bătut, l-au înjosit şi l-au trimis înapoi cu mâinile goale.

`And he added to send another servant, and they that one also having beaten and dishonoured, did send away empty;

12 A mai trimis un al treilea, dar şi pe acesta l-au rănit şi l-au aruncat afară.

and he added to send a third, and this one also, having wounded, they did cast out.

13 A tunci stăpânul viei a zis: «Ce să fac? Îl voi trimite pe fiul meu preaiubit; poate că pe el îl vor respecta!»

`And the owner of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my son -- the beloved, perhaps having seen this one, they will do reverence;

14 D ar viticultorii, când l-au văzut, şi-au zis unii altora: «Acesta este moştenitorul! Să-l omorâm pentru ca moştenirea să fie a noastră!»

and having seen him, the husbandmen reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, we may kill him, that the inheritance may become ours;

15 Ş i l-au scos afară din vie şi l-au omorât. Aşadar, ce le va face stăpânul viei?

and having cast him outside of the vineyard, they killed; what, then, shall the owner of the vineyard do to them?

16 V a veni şi-i va nimici pe viticultorii aceia, iar via o va da altora.“ Când au auzit ei aceste cuvinte, au zis: „Să nu se întâmple una ca asta!“

He will come, and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.' And having heard, they said, `Let it not be!'

17 D ar El i-a privit şi le-a zis: „Atunci ce înseamnă următorul pasaj unde a fost scris: «Piatra pe care au respins-o zidarii a devenit piatra din capul unghiului.» ?

and he, having looked upon them, said, `What, then, is this that hath been written: A stone that the builders rejected -- this became head of a corner?

18 O ricine cade peste piatra aceea va fi sfărâmat în bucăţi, iar pe acela peste care cade ea, îl va zdrobi.“

every one who hath fallen on that stone shall be broken, and on whom it may fall, it will crush him to pieces.'

19 C hiar în ceasul acela cărturarii şi conducătorii preoţilor au căutat să pună mâna pe El, dar le-a fost frică de popor; căci ei ştiau că împotriva lor spusese Isus această pildă. Tributul datorat Cezarului

And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him in that hour, and they feared the people, for they knew that against them he spake this simile.

20 A u început să-L urmărească îndeaproape şi au trimis nişte spioni, care se prefăceau că sunt oameni drepţi, ca să-L prindă cu vorba şi să-L poată da astfel pe mâna puterii şi autorităţii guvernatorului.

And, having watched, they sent forth liers in wait, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his word, to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor,

21 A ceştia L-au întrebat: – Învăţătorule, ştim că vorbeşti şi-i înveţi pe oameni corect, că nu eşti părtinitor, ci îi înveţi calea lui Dumnezeu în adevăr.

and they questioned him, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou dost say and teach rightly, and dost not accept a person, but in truth the way of God dost teach;

22 S e cuvine să plătim tribut Cezarului sau nu?

Is it lawful to us to give tribute to Caesar or not?'

23 E l însă şi-a dat seama de viclenia lor şi le-a zis:

And he, having perceived their craftiness, said unto them, `Why me do ye tempt?

24 – Arătaţi-mi un denar! Chipul şi inscripţia de pe el, ale cui sunt? – Ale Cezarului, au răspuns ei.

shew me a denary; of whom hath it an image and superscription?' and they answering said, `Of Caesar:'

25 E l le-a zis: – Aşadar, daţi Cezarului ce este al Cezarului, iar lui Dumnezeu ce este al lui Dumnezeu!

and he said to them, `Give back, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'

26 A stfel ei n-au putut să-L prindă cu vorba în faţa poporului şi, miraţi de răspunsul Lui, au tăcut. Despre înviere

and they were not able to take hold on his saying before the people, and having wondered at his answer, they were silent.

27 A poi au venit la El nişte saduchei, care zic că nu există înviere, şi L-au întrebat:

And certain of the Sadducees, who are denying that there is a rising again, having come near, questioned him,

28 – Învăţătorule, Moise ne-a scris că dacă fratele cuiva moare fără să aibă copii şi-i rămâne astfel doar soţia, fratele acestuia trebuie să se căsătorească cu văduva şi să-i ridice un urmaş fratelui său.

saying, `Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother may die, having a wife, and he may die childless -- that his brother may take the wife, and may raise up seed to his brother.

29 E rau şapte fraţi. Primul şi-a luat o soţie, dar a murit fără să aibă copii.

`There were, then, seven brothers, and the first having taken a wife, died childless,

30 C u al doilea s-a întâmplat la fel.

and the second took the wife, and he died childless,

31 A l treilea s-a căsătorit şi el cu văduva şi tot aşa toţi cei şapte; şi au murit fără să aibă copii.

and the third took her, and in like manner also the seven -- they left not children, and they died;

32 F emeia a murit ultima dintre toţi.

and last of all died also the woman:

33 D eci, la înviere, soţia căruia dintre ei va fi femeia? Căci toţi şapte au avut-o de soţie!

in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? -- for the seven had her as wife.'

34 I sus le-a răspuns: – Copiii veacului acestuia se însoară şi se mărită,

And Jesus answering said to them, `The sons of this age do marry and are given in marriage,

35 d ar cei care vor fi consideraţi vrednici să aibă parte de veacul acela şi de învierea dintre cei morţi nici nu se vor mai însura, nici nu se vor mai mărita,

but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they given in marriage;

36 c ăci ei nu mai pot muri pentru că sunt ca îngerii şi sunt fiii lui Dumnezeu, fiind fii ai învierii.

for neither are they able to die any more -- for they are like messengers -- and they are sons of God, being sons of the rising again.

37 I ar cu privire la faptul că cei morţi sunt înviaţi, însuşi Moise a făcut cunoscut acest lucru, acolo unde scrie despre tufiş, când vorbeşte despre Domnul ca fiind Dumnezeul lui Avraam, Dumnezeul lui Isaac şi Dumnezeul lui Iacov.

`And that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the Bush, since he doth call the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;

38 O ri El nu este un Dumnezeu al celor morţi, ci al celor vii, căci pentru El toţi sunt vii.

and He is not a God of dead men, but of living, for all live to Him.'

39 A tunci unii dintre cărturari I-au zis: – Învăţătorule, bine ai zis!

And certain of the scribes answering said, `Teacher, thou didst say well;'

40 C ăci nu mai îndrăzneau să-I pună nici o întrebare. Al cui fiu este Cristos?

and no more durst they question him anything.

41 E l însă i-a întrebat: – Cum de zic ei despre Cristos că este fiul lui David?

And he said unto them, `How do they say the Christ to be son of David,

42 C ăci David însuşi, în cartea Psalmilor, spune: „Domnul I-a zis Domnului meu: «Şezi la dreapta Mea,

and David himself saith in the Book of Psalms, The Lord said to my lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

43 p ână voi face din duşmanii Tăi aşternut al picioarelor Tale!»“

till I shall make thine enemies thy footstool;

44 A şadar, David Îl numeşte „Domn“; deci cum este El fiul lui?

David, then, doth call him lord, and how is he his son?'

45 A poi le-a vorbit ucenicilor în auzul întregului popor:

And, all the people hearing, he said to his disciples,

46 „ Păziţi-vă de cărturari, cărora le place să umble în robe lungi şi care iubesc să fie salutaţi prin pieţe şi să li se dea scaunele de onoare în sinagogi şi locurile de onoare la mese.

`Take heed of the scribes, who are wishing to walk in long robes, and are loving salutations in the markets, and first seats in the synagogues, and first couches in the suppers,

47 E i devorează casele văduvelor şi fac rugăciuni lungi de ochii lumii. Aceştia vor primi o condamnare mult mai mare.“

who devour the houses of the widows, and for a pretence make long prayers, these shall receive more abundant judgment.'
