1 R ăzboiul dintre Casa lui Saul şi Casa lui David a durat mult timp. David devenea tot mai puternic, în timp ce Casa lui Saul slăbea tot mai mult.

And the war is long between the house of Saul and the house of David, and David is going on and strong, and the house of Saul are going on and weak.

2 F iii lui David care i s-au născut la Hebron sunt următorii: Amnon, întâiul născut, fiul izreelitei Ahinoam;

And there are born to David sons in Hebron, and his first-born is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,

3 C hileab, al doilea, fiul lui Abigail, văduva lui Nabal, carmelitul; Absalom, al treilea, fiul Maacăi, fiica lui Talmai, regele Gheşurului;

and his second Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur,

4 A donia, al patrulea, fiul Haghitei; Şefatia, al cincilea, fiul lui Abital;

and the fourth Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth Shephatiah son of Abital,

5 I tream, al şaselea, fiul soţiei lui David numite Egla. Aceştia sunt fiii care i s-au născut lui David în Hebron. Abner, de partea lui David

and the sixth Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.

6 Î n timpul războiului dintre Casa lui Saul şi Casa lui David, Abner a devenit puternic în Casa lui Saul.

And it cometh to pass, in the war being between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner hath been strengthening himself in the house of Saul,

7 S aul avea o ţiitoare pe nume Riţpa, fiica lui Aia, iar Iş-Boşet i-a zis lui Abner: – De ce ai intrat la ţiitoarea tatălui meu?

and Saul hath a concubine, and her name Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and saith unto Abner, `Wherefore hast thou gone in unto the concubine of my father?'

8 A bner s-a mâniat foarte tare din cauza spuselor lui Iş-Boşet şi i-a zis: – Oare cap de câine sunt eu? Sunt oare de partea lui Iuda? Astăzi am dat dovadă de credincioşie faţă de Casa tatălui tău, Saul, a fraţilor şi a prietenilor lui şi nu te-am dat în mâna lui David, iar tu mă găseşti astăzi vinovat din cauza acestei femei!

And it is displeasing to Abner exceedingly, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he saith, `The head of a dog I -- that in reference to Judah to-day I do kindness with the house of Saul thy father, unto his brethren, and unto his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David -- that thou chargest against me iniquity concerning the woman to-day?

9 D umnezeu să se poarte cu toată asprimea faţă de Abner dacă nu voi face pentru David ceea ce Domnul i-a promis prin jurământ,

thus doth God to Abner, and thus He doth add to him, surely as Jehovah hath sworn to David -- surely so I do to him:

10 ş i anume că va lua domnia de la Casa lui Saul şi va ridica tronul lui David peste Israel şi peste Iuda, de la Dan până la Beer-Şeba.

to cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba.'

11 I ş-Boşet n-a mai îndrăznit să-i mai spună ceva lui Abner, pentru că se temea de el.

And he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.

12 A poi, în numele lui însuşi, Abner a trimis mesageri la David ca să-i spună: „A cui este ţara?“, adăugând: „Încheie un legământ cu mine şi eu te voi ajuta să întorci întregul Israel la tine.“

And Abner sendeth messengers unto David for himself, saying, `Whose the land?' saying, `Make thy covenant with me, and lo, my hand with thee, to bring round unto thee all Israel.'

13 „ Bine, a spus David, voi încheia legământ cu tine, însă cu o singură condiţie: să nu te înfăţişezi înaintea mea dacă nu mi-o aduci pe Mihal, fiica lui Saul, atunci când vii la mine!“

And he saith, `Good -- I make with thee a covenant; only, one thing I am asking of thee, that is, Thou dost not see my face, except thou dost first bring in Michal, daughter of Saul in thy coming into see my face.'

14 D avid a trimis mesageri la Iş-Boşet, fiul lui Saul, să-i spună: „Dă-mi-o pe soţia mea, pe Mihal, cu care m-am logodit pentru preţul de o sută de prepuţuri de-ale filistenilor!“

And David sendeth messengers unto Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, `Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'

15 I ş-Boşet a trimis după ea şi ea a fost luată de la soţul ei, de la Paltiel, fiul lui Laiş.

And Ish-Bosheth sendeth, and taketh her from a man, from Phaltiel son of Laish,

16 S oţul ei a mers cu ea, plângând în urma ei, până la Bahurim. Abner i-a zis: „Întoarce-te acasă!“ Şi el s-a întors acasă.

and her husband goeth with her, going on and weeping behind her, unto Bahurim, and Abner saith unto him, `Go, turn back;' and he turneth back.

17 A poi Abner a vorbit cu cei din sfatul bătrânilor lui Israel şi le-a zis: „Odinioară l-aţi dorit ca rege pe David.

And the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore ye have been seeking David for king over you,

18 A cum faceţi-l rege, căci Domnul a spus despre el: «Prin mâna robului Meu, David, am să-l izbăvesc pe poporul Meu, Israel, de sub puterea filistenilor şi a tuturor duşmanilor săi.»“

and now, do, for Jehovah hath spoken of David saying, By the hand of David my servant -- to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'

19 A bner le-a vorbit, de asemenea, şi beniamiţilor, după care s-a dus să-i spună lui David, la Hebron, tot ceea ce Israel şi întreaga seminţie a lui Beniamin doreşte să facă.

And Abner speaketh also in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner goeth also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that good in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin,

20 A sosit la David, la Hebron, însoţit de douăzeci de bărbaţi, iar David a dat un ospăţ în cinstea lor.

and Abner cometh in unto David, to Hebron, and with him twenty men, and David maketh for Abner, and for the men who with him, a banquet.

21 A bner i-a zis lui David: „Lasă-mă să plec şi să adun întreg Israelul la stăpânul meu, regele, ca să încheie un legământ cu tine şi astfel să domneşti peste tot ceea ce sufletul tău doreşte.“ David i-a dat voie lui Abner să plece, iar acesta a plecat în pace. Abner, asasinat de Ioab

And Abner saith unto David, `I arise, and go, and gather unto my lord the king the whole of Israel, and they make with thee a covenant, and thou hast reigned over all that thy soul desireth;' and David sendeth away Abner, and he goeth in peace.

22 I mediat după aceea a sosit Ioab împreună cu slujitorii lui David. Aceştia se întorceau de la un jaf şi aduceau o mare pradă cu ei. Abner însă nu se mai afla împreună cu David la Hebron, căci acesta îi dăduse voie să plece, iar el a plecat în pace.

And lo, the servants of David, and Joab, have come from the troop, and much spoil have brought with them, and Abner is not with David in Hebron, for he hath sent him away, and he goeth in peace;

23 C ând au sosit, Ioab şi oştirea care era cu el, i s-a spus lui Ioab că Abner, fiul lui Ner a fost la rege, iar acesta i-a dat voie să plece şi el a plecat în pace.

and Joab and all the host that with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, `Abner son of Ner hath come unto the king, and he sendeth him away, and he goeth in peace.'

24 I oab a venit la rege şi i-a zis: „Ce ai făcut? Abner a fost la tine, iar tu i-ai dat voie să plece. De ce?

And Joab cometh unto the king, and saith, `What hast thou done? lo, Abner hath come unto thee! why this -- thou hast sent him away, and he is really gone?

25 Î l cunoşti bine pe Abner, fiul lui Ner! El a venit ca să te înşele, ca să-ţi cunoască mişcările şi ca să ştie tot ceea ce faci.“

Thou hast known Abner son of Ner, that to deceive thee he came, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou art doing.'

26 D upă ce a ieşit de la David, Ioab a trimis mesageri după Abner, care l-au adus înapoi de la fântâna lui Sira. David însă nu ştia nimic.

And Joab goeth out from David, and sendeth messengers after Abner, and they bring him back from the well of Sirah, and David knew not.

27 C ând a ajuns Abner la Hebron, Ioab l-a luat deoparte, la poartă, ca şi cum i-ar vorbi în taină. Acolo, ca să-l răzbune pe fratele său Asael, Ioab l-a lovit în stomac şi a murit.

And Abner turneth back to Hebron, and Joab turneth him aside unto the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smiteth him there in the fifth -- and he dieth -- for the blood of Asahel his brother.

28 C ând David a aflat ce s-a întâmplat, a zis: „Eu şi regatul meu suntem nevinovaţi înaintea Domnului, pentru totdeauna, de moartea lui Abner, fiul lui Ner.

And David heareth afterwards and saith, `Acquitted I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;

29 F ie ca vina acestei morţi să cadă asupra lui Ioab şi asupra familiei tatălui său! Fie ca în neamul său să existe întotdeauna cineva care să aibă o scurgere pe trup, cineva lepros, cineva care să se sprijine în cârjă, cineva care să cadă ucis de sabie şi cineva care să ducă lipsă de hrană.“

it doth stay on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one having an issue, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.'

30 ( Ioab împreună cu fratele său Abişai l-au ucis pe Abner pentru că, în lupta de la Ghivon, acesta îl omorâse pe fratele lor Asael.)

And Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner because that he put to death Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in battle.

31 D avid i-a zis lui Ioab şi întregului popor care era cu el: „Sfâşiaţi-vă hainele, încingeţi-vă cu saci şi mergeţi bocind înaintea lui Abner.“ Regele David mergea în urma sicriului.

And David saith unto Joab, and unto all the people who with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

32 L -au înmormântat pe Abner la Hebron. Regele a plâns în hohote la mormântul lui şi întreg poporul a făcut acelaşi lucru.

And they bury Abner in Hebron, and the king lifteth up his voice, and weepeth at the grave of Abner, and all the people weep;

33 R egele a cântat această cântare de jale: Să moară Abner cum moare un mişel?

and the king lamenteth for Abner, and saith: -- `As the death of a fool doth Abner die?

34 N -aveai nici mâinile legate, nici picioarele puse în lanţuri. Ai căzut ca unul răpus de mişei. Şi tot poporul a plâns din nou după Abner.

Thy hands not bound, And thy feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil -- Thou hast fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him.

35 T ot poporul s-a apropiat de David ca să-l facă să mănânce cât mai era încă ziuă însă el a făcut următorul jurământ: „Dumnezeu să se poarte cu mine cu toată asprimea dacă voi gusta pâine sau orice altceva înainte de apusul soarelui.“

And all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David sweareth, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add, for -- before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.'

36 L ucrul acesta a fost cunoscut de întreg poporul şi a plăcut tuturor. De fapt, tot ceea ce a făcut regele a plăcut poporului.

And all the people have discerned, and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king hath done is good in the eyes of all the people;

37 A stfel, în acea zi, tot poporul şi tot Israelul au ştiut că nu regele l-a omorât pe Abner, fiul lui Ner.

and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it hath not been from the king -- to put to death Abner son of Ner.

38 A poi David le-a zis slujitorilor săi: „Nu vă daţi seama că un prinţ şi un mare om a căzut astăzi în Israel?

And the king saith unto his servants, `Do ye not know that a prince and a great one hath fallen this day in Israel?

39 Ş i astăzi, deşi sunt uns ca rege, sunt slab, iar aceşti bărbaţi, fiii Ţeruiei, sunt prea puternici pentru mine. Fie ca Domnul să-i răsplătească celui rău după răutatea lui!“

and I to-day tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, too hard for me; Jehovah doth recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil.'
