1 H ubo una larga guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la casa de David; pero David se iba fortaleciendo, mientras que la casa de Saúl se iba debilitando. Hijos de David nacidos en Hebrón

And the war is long between the house of Saul and the house of David, and David is going on and strong, and the house of Saul are going on and weak.

2 A David le nacieron hijos en Hebrón; su primogénito fue Amnón, de Ahinoam, la jezreelita;

And there are born to David sons in Hebron, and his first-born is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,

3 s u segundo, Quileab, de Abigail, la mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel; el tercero, Absalón, hijo de Maaca, hija de Talmai, rey de Gesur;

and his second Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur,

4 e l cuarto, Adonías, hijo de Haguit; el quinto, Sefatías, hijo de Abital;

and the fourth Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth Shephatiah son of Abital,

5 e l sexto, Itream, de Egla, mujer de David. Estos le nacieron a David en Hebrón. Abner pacta con David en Hebrón

and the sixth Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.

6 C omo había guerra entre la casa de Saúl y la de David, aconteció que Abner se fortalecía cada vez más en la casa de Saúl.

And it cometh to pass, in the war being between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner hath been strengthening himself in the house of Saul,

7 H abía tenido Saúl una concubina llamada Rizpa, hija de Aja. E Is-boset dijo a Abner: —¿Por qué te has llegado a la concubina de mi padre?

and Saul hath a concubine, and her name Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and saith unto Abner, `Wherefore hast thou gone in unto the concubine of my father?'

8 A bner se enojó mucho por las palabras de Is-boset, y le dijo: —¿Acaso soy un perro al servicio de Judá? Hasta hoy he tenido misericordia con la casa de Saúl, tu padre, con sus hermanos y con sus amigos, y no te he entregado en manos de David; ¿y ahora tú me acusas de haber pecado con esta mujer?

And it is displeasing to Abner exceedingly, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he saith, `The head of a dog I -- that in reference to Judah to-day I do kindness with the house of Saul thy father, unto his brethren, and unto his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David -- that thou chargest against me iniquity concerning the woman to-day?

9 T raiga Dios sobre Abner el peor de los castigos, si no hago como Jehová ha jurado a David,

thus doth God to Abner, and thus He doth add to him, surely as Jehovah hath sworn to David -- surely so I do to him:

10 q ue trasladará el reino de la casa de Saúl, y que confirmará el trono de David sobre Israel y sobre Judá, desde Dan hasta Beerseba.

to cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba.'

11 I s-boset no fue capaz de responder una palabra a Abner, porque le temía.

And he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.

12 E ntonces envió Abner mensajeros a David para que de su parte le dijeran: «¿De quién es la tierra?» Y también: «Haz pacto conmigo, y mi mano estará contigo para que vuelva a ti todo Israel.»

And Abner sendeth messengers unto David for himself, saying, `Whose the land?' saying, `Make thy covenant with me, and lo, my hand with thee, to bring round unto thee all Israel.'

13 D avid respondió: —Bien; haré pacto contigo, pero una cosa te pido: No te presentes ante mí sin que primero traigas a Mical, la hija de Saúl, cuando vengas a verme.

And he saith, `Good -- I make with thee a covenant; only, one thing I am asking of thee, that is, Thou dost not see my face, except thou dost first bring in Michal, daughter of Saul in thy coming into see my face.'

14 D espués de esto envió David mensajeros a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, diciendo: «Restitúyeme a Mical, mi mujer, la cual desposé por cien prepucios de filisteos.»

And David sendeth messengers unto Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, `Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'

15 E ntonces Is-boset mandó a quitársela a su marido Paltiel hijo de Lais.

And Ish-Bosheth sendeth, and taketh her from a man, from Phaltiel son of Laish,

16 S u marido fue con ella, siguiéndola y llorando hasta Bahurim. Pero Abner le dijo: «¡Anda, vuélvete!» Y él se volvió.

and her husband goeth with her, going on and weeping behind her, unto Bahurim, and Abner saith unto him, `Go, turn back;' and he turneth back.

17 E ntonces habló Abner con los ancianos de Israel, y les dijo: «Ya hace tiempo que procurabais que David fuera vuestro rey.

And the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore ye have been seeking David for king over you,

18 A hora, pues, hacedlo; porque Jehová ha dicho a David: “Por medio de mi siervo David libraré a mi pueblo Israel de manos de los filisteos, y de manos de todos sus enemigos.”»

and now, do, for Jehovah hath spoken of David saying, By the hand of David my servant -- to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'

19 H abló también Abner a los de Benjamín, y luego fue a Hebrón a decirle a David todo lo que parecía bien a los de Israel y a toda la casa de Benjamín.

And Abner speaketh also in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner goeth also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that good in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin,

20 A bner, acompañado de veinte hombres, llegó adonde estaba David en Hebrón, y David le ofreció un banquete a Abner y a los que con él habían venido.

and Abner cometh in unto David, to Hebron, and with him twenty men, and David maketh for Abner, and for the men who with him, a banquet.

21 A bner dijo a David: —Me levantaré e iré a reunir a todo Israel junto a mi señor, el rey; harán un pacto contigo, y reinarás como lo desea tu corazón. Luego David despidió a Abner, que se fue en paz. Joab mata a Abner

And Abner saith unto David, `I arise, and go, and gather unto my lord the king the whole of Israel, and they make with thee a covenant, and thou hast reigned over all that thy soul desireth;' and David sendeth away Abner, and he goeth in peace.

22 L legaron entonces del campo los siervos de David y Joab, y traían consigo un gran botín. Pero Abner no estaba con David en Hebrón, pues ya lo había despedido, y él se había ido en paz.

And lo, the servants of David, and Joab, have come from the troop, and much spoil have brought with them, and Abner is not with David in Hebron, for he hath sent him away, and he goeth in peace;

23 A penas llegó Joab con todo el ejército que lo acompañaba, le avisaron a Joab que Abner hijo de Ner había venido ante el rey, y que se había marchado en paz luego de haberlo despedido.

and Joab and all the host that with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, `Abner son of Ner hath come unto the king, and he sendeth him away, and he goeth in peace.'

24 E ntonces Joab se presentó al rey y le dijo: «¿Qué has hecho? Abner vino ante ti; ¿por qué, pues, dejaste que se fuera?

And Joab cometh unto the king, and saith, `What hast thou done? lo, Abner hath come unto thee! why this -- thou hast sent him away, and he is really gone?

25 T ú conoces a Abner hijo de Ner. No ha venido sino para engañarte, para enterarse de tus idas y venidas y saber todo lo que tú haces.»

Thou hast known Abner son of Ner, that to deceive thee he came, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou art doing.'

26 J oab salió de la presencia de David y envió mensajeros en busca de Abner, los cuales lo hicieron volver desde el pozo de Sira, sin que David lo supiera.

And Joab goeth out from David, and sendeth messengers after Abner, and they bring him back from the well of Sirah, and David knew not.

27 C uando Abner volvió a Hebrón, Joab lo llevó aparte, a un lado de la puerta, como para hablar con él en secreto; y allí, en venganza por la muerte de su hermano Asael, lo hirió a la altura de la quinta costilla, y lo mató.

And Abner turneth back to Hebron, and Joab turneth him aside unto the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smiteth him there in the fifth -- and he dieth -- for the blood of Asahel his brother.

28 D espués, cuando David lo supo, dijo: «Yo y mi reino somos inocentes delante de Jehová, para siempre, de la sangre de Abner hijo de Ner.

And David heareth afterwards and saith, `Acquitted I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;

29 C aiga sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre toda la casa de su padre; que nunca falte en la casa de Joab quien padezca flujo de sangre, ni leproso, ni quien ande con bastón, ni quien muera a espada, ni quien padezca hambre.»

it doth stay on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one having an issue, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.'

30 A sí pues, Joab y su hermano Abisai mataron a Abner, porque él había dado muerte a Asael, hermano de ellos, en la batalla de Gabaón.

And Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner because that he put to death Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in battle.

31 D espués dijo David a Joab y a todo el pueblo que con él estaba: «Rasgad vuestros vestidos, ceñíos de ropas ásperas y haced duelo delante de Abner.» Y el rey David iba detrás del féretro

And David saith unto Joab, and unto all the people who with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

32 c uando sepultaron a Abner en Hebrón. Alzando la voz, el rey lloró junto al sepulcro de Abner, y lloró también todo el pueblo.

And they bury Abner in Hebron, and the king lifteth up his voice, and weepeth at the grave of Abner, and all the people weep;

33 E ntonces el rey entonó este lamento por Abner: «¿Había de morir Abner como muere un villano?

and the king lamenteth for Abner, and saith: -- `As the death of a fool doth Abner die?

34 T us manos no estaban atadas ni tus pies sujetos con grillos. Caíste como los que caen ante malhechores». Y todo el pueblo volvió a llorar por él.

Thy hands not bound, And thy feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil -- Thou hast fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him.

35 E ntonces todo el pueblo vino a persuadir a David para que comiera antes que acabara el día. Pero David juró diciendo: «Traiga Dios sobre mí el peor de los castigos, si antes que se ponga el sol pruebo yo pan o cualquiera otra cosa.»

And all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David sweareth, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add, for -- before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.'

36 T odo el pueblo lo supo y le agradó; pues todo lo que el rey hacía agradaba a todo el pueblo.

And all the people have discerned, and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king hath done is good in the eyes of all the people;

37 Y supo aquel día todo el pueblo y todo Israel, que el rey no había tenido participación en la muerte de Abner hijo de Ner.

and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it hath not been from the king -- to put to death Abner son of Ner.

38 T ambién dijo el rey a sus siervos: «¿No sabéis que un príncipe y un grande ha caído hoy en Israel?

And the king saith unto his servants, `Do ye not know that a prince and a great one hath fallen this day in Israel?

39 A unque ungido rey, me siento débil hoy; pero estos hombres, los hijos de Sarvia, son más duros que yo. ¡Que Jehová le pague al que mal hace conforme a su maldad!»

and I to-day tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, too hard for me; Jehovah doth recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil.'
