1 Y a Abraham era viejo, bien avanzado en años; y Jehová había bendecido en todo a Abraham.

And Abraham old, he hath entered into days, and Jehovah hath blessed Abraham in all;

2 D ijo Abraham a un criado suyo, el más viejo de su casa, quien gobernaba todo lo que él tenía: —Pon ahora tu mano debajo de mi muslo

and Abraham saith unto his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he hath, `Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

3 y júrame por Jehová, Dios de los cielos y Dios de la tierra, que no tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, entre los cuales yo habito,

and I cause thee to swear by Jehovah, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, that thou dost not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;

4 s ino que irás a mi tierra y a mi parentela a tomar mujer para mi hijo Isaac.

but unto my land and unto my kindred dost thou go, and hast taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.'

5 E l criado le respondió: —Quizá la mujer no quiera venir conmigo a esta tierra. ¿Debo, entonces, volver y llevar a tu hijo a la tierra de donde saliste?

And the servant saith unto him, `It may be the woman is not willing to come after me unto this land; do I at all cause thy son to turn back unto the land from whence thou camest out?'

6 A braham le dijo: —¡Cuidado con llevar allá a mi hijo!

And Abraham saith unto him, `Take heed to thyself, lest thou cause my son to turn back thither;

7 J ehová, Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre y de la tierra de mi parentela, y que me habló y me juró, diciendo: “A tu descendencia daré esta tierra”, él enviará su ángel delante de ti, para que tú traigas de allá mujer para mi hijo.

Jehovah, God of the heavens, who hath taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who hath spoken to me, and who hath sworn to me, saying, To thy seed I give this land, He doth send His messenger before thee, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from thence;

8 P ero si la mujer no quiere venir contigo, quedarás libre de mi juramento; solamente que no lleves allá a mi hijo.

and if the woman be not willing to come after thee, then thou hast been acquitted from this mine oath: only my son thou dost not cause to turn back thither.'

9 E ntonces el criado puso su mano debajo del muslo de Abraham, su señor, y le juró sobre este negocio.

And the servant putteth his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and sweareth to him concerning this matter.

10 E l criado tomó diez camellos de los de su señor, y se fue, no sin antes escoger toda clase de regalos de lo mejor que tenía su señor; se puso en camino y llegó a la ciudad de Nacor, en Mesopotamia.

And the servant taketh ten camels of the camels of his lord and goeth, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he riseth, and goeth unto Aram-Naharaim, unto the city of Nahor;

11 F uera de la ciudad hizo arrodillar a los camellos junto a un pozo de agua, a la hora de la tarde, la hora en que salen las muchachas a buscar agua.

and he causeth the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at even-time, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.

12 Y dijo: «Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, haz, te ruego, que hoy tenga yo un buen encuentro, y ten misericordia de mi señor Abraham.

And he saith, `Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, cause to meet, I pray Thee, before me this day -- (and do kindness with my lord Abraham;

13 A quí estoy junto a la fuente de agua, cuando salen a buscar agua las hijas de los hombres de esta ciudad.

lo, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;

14 S ea, pues, que la muchacha a quien yo diga: “Baja tu cántaro, te ruego, para que yo beba”, y ella responda: “Bebe, y también daré de beber a tus camellos”, que sea ésta la que tú has destinado para tu siervo Isaac. En esto conoceré que has hecho misericordia con mi señor.»

and it hath been, the young person unto whom I say, Incline, I pray thee, thy pitcher, and I drink, and she hath said, Drink, and I water also thy camels) -- her Thou hast decided for Thy servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that Thou hast done kindness with my lord.'

15 A conteció que antes que él acabara de hablar, salió Rebeca con su cántaro sobre el hombro. Rebeca era hija de Betuel, hijo de Milca, mujer de Nacor, hermano de Abraham.

And it cometh to pass, before he hath finished speaking, that lo, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,

16 E sta muchacha era de aspecto muy hermoso y virgen, pues ningún hombre la había conocido; descendió a la fuente, llenó su cántaro, y se dispuso a regresar.

and the young person of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man hath not known her; and she goeth down to the fountain, and filleth her pitcher, and cometh up.

17 E ntonces el criado corrió hacia ella y le dijo: —Te ruego que me des a beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro.

And the servant runneth to meet her, and saith, `Let me swallow, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher;'

18 E lla respondió: —Bebe, señor mío. Se dio prisa a bajar su cántaro, lo sostuvo entre las manos y le dio a beber.

and she saith, `Drink, my lord;' and she hasteth, and letteth down her pitcher upon her hand, and giveth him drink.

19 C uando acabó de darle de beber, dijo: —También para tus camellos sacaré agua, hasta que acaben de beber.

And she finisheth giving him drink, and saith, `Also for thy camels I draw till they have finished drinking;'

20 S e dio prisa y vació su cántaro en la pila; luego corrió otra vez al pozo a sacar agua y sacó para todos sus camellos.

and she hasteth, and emptieth her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runneth again unto the well to draw, and draweth for all his camels.

21 E l hombre, maravillado, la contemplaba en silencio, pues quería saber si Jehová había prosperado su viaje, o no.

And the man, wondering at her, remaineth silent, to know whether Jehovah hath made his way prosperous or not.

22 C uando los camellos acabaron de beber, le dio el hombre un pendiente de oro que pesaba medio siclo y dos brazaletes que pesaban diez,

And it cometh to pass when the camels have finished drinking, that the man taketh a golden ring (whose weight a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight ten of gold),

23 y le preguntó: —¿De quién eres hija? Te ruego que me digas si en casa de tu padre hay lugar donde podamos pasar la noche.

and saith, `Whose daughter thou? declare to me, I pray thee, is the house of thy father a place for us to lodge in?'

24 E lla respondió: —Soy hija de Betuel, hijo de Milca, el hijo que ella dio a Nacor.

And she saith unto him, `I daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she hath borne to Nahor.'

25 Y añadió: —También hay en nuestra casa paja y mucho forraje, y lugar donde pasar la noche.

She saith also unto him, `Both straw and provender abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.'

26 E l hombre entonces se inclinó y adoró a Jehová,

And the man boweth, and doth obeisance to Jehovah,

27 y dijo: «Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de mi amo Abraham, que no apartó de mi amo su misericordia y su verdad, y que me ha guiado en el camino a casa de los hermanos de mi amo.»

and saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord; -- I in the way, Jehovah hath led me to the house of my lord's brethren.'

28 L a muchacha corrió e hizo saber estas cosas en casa de su madre.

And the young person runneth, and declareth to the house of her mother according to these words.

29 R ebeca tenía un hermano que se llamaba Labán, el cual corrió afuera hacia el hombre, a la fuente.

And Rebekah hath a brother, and his name Laban, and Laban runneth unto the man who without, unto the fountain;

30 Y cuando vio el pendiente y los brazaletes en las manos de su hermana, que decía: «Así me habló aquel hombre», fue adonde él estaba; lo encontró con los camellos, junto a la fuente,

yea, it cometh to pass, when he seeth the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heareth the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, `Thus hath the man spoken unto me,' that he cometh in unto the man, and lo, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.

31 y le dijo: —Ven, bendito de Jehová, ¿por qué estás fuera? He preparado la casa, y el lugar para los camellos.

And he saith, `Come in, O blessed one of Jehovah, why standest thou without, and I -- I have prepared the house and place for the camels!'

32 E ntonces el hombre vino a la casa y Labán desató los camellos; les dio paja y forraje, y a él le dio agua para lavar sus pies, y los pies de los hombres que con él venían.

And he bringeth in the man into the house, and looseth the camels, and giveth straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who with him:

33 L uego le pusieron delante qué comer; pero él dijo: —No comeré hasta que haya dicho mi mensaje. —Habla —dijo Labán.

and setteth before him to eat; but he saith, `I do not eat till I have spoken my word;' and he saith, `Speak.'

34 Y el hombre dijo: —Soy criado de Abraham.

And he saith, `I Abraham's servant;

35 J ehová ha bendecido mucho a mi amo, y él se ha engrandecido; le ha dado ovejas y vacas, plata y oro, siervos y siervas, camellos y asnos.

and Jehovah hath blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He giveth to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and asses;

36 S ara, mujer de mi amo, dio a luz en su vejez un hijo a mi señor, quien le ha dado a él todo cuanto tiene.

and Sarah, my lord's wife, beareth a son to my lord, after she hath been aged, and he giveth to him all that he hath.

37 M i amo me hizo jurar, diciendo: “No tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, en cuya tierra habito,

`And my lord causeth me to swear, saying, Thou dost not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.

38 s ino que irás a la casa de mi padre, a mi parentela, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo.”

If not -- unto the house of my father thou dost go, and unto my family, and thou hast taken a wife for my son.

39 Y o dije: “Quizá la mujer no quiera seguirme.”

`And I say unto my lord, It may be the woman doth not come after me;

40 E ntonces él me respondió: “Jehová, en cuya presencia he andado, enviará contigo su ángel y prosperará tu camino; y tomarás para mi hijo mujer de mi familia y de la casa de mi padre.

and he saith unto me, Jehovah, before whom I have walked habitually, doth send His messenger with thee, and hath prospered thy way, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;

41 E ntonces quedarás libre de mi juramento, cuando hayas llegado a mi familia: si no te la dan, quedarás libre de mi juramento.”

then art thou acquitted from my oath, when thou comest unto my family, and if they give not to thee; then thou hast been acquitted from my oath.

42 » Llegué, pues, hoy a la fuente y dije: “Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si tú has de prosperar ahora el camino por el cual ando,

`And I come to-day unto the fountain, and I say, Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, if Thou art, I pray Thee, making prosperous my way in which I am going --

43 p ermite que, mientras estoy junto a la fuente de agua, la muchacha que salga a buscar agua y a quien yo diga: ‘Dame de beber, te ruego, un poco de agua de tu cántaro’,

(lo, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin who is coming out to draw, and I have said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher,

44 y ella me responda: ‘Bebe tú, y también para tus camellos sacaré agua’, sea ésta la mujer que destinó Jehová para el hijo de mi señor.”

and she hath said unto me, Both drink thou, and also for thy camels I draw -- she is the woman whom Jehovah hath decided for my lord's son.

45 A ntes que acabara de hablar en mi corazón, vi a Rebeca que salía con su cántaro sobre el hombro; descendió a la fuente, y sacó agua. Entonces le dije: “Te ruego que me des de beber.”

`Before I finish speaking unto my heart, then lo, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder, and she goeth down to the fountain, and draweth; and I say unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee,

46 E lla, al punto, bajó su cántaro del hombro y dijo: “Bebe, y también a tus camellos daré de beber.” Yo bebí, y dio también de beber a mis camellos.

and she hasteth and letteth down her pitcher from off her and saith, Drink, and thy camels also I water; and I drink, and the camels also she hath watered.

47 E ntonces le pregunté: “¿De quién eres hija?” Ella respondió: “Soy hija de Betuel hijo de Nacor, el hijo que le dio Milca.” Le puse, pues, un pendiente en la nariz, y brazaletes en los brazos.

`And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter thou? and she saith, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah hath borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,

48 L uego me incliné, adoré a Jehová y bendije a Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, que me había guiado por un camino recto para tomar la hija del hermano de mi señor para su hijo.

and I bow, and do obeisance before Jehovah, and I bless Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord's brother for his son.

49 A hora, pues, si estáis dispuestos a hacer misericordia y ser leales con mi señor, declarádmelo; y si no, declarádmelo también, y así sabré qué debo hacer.

`And now, if ye are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn unto the right or unto the left.'

50 E ntonces Labán y Betuel respondieron diciendo: —De Jehová ha salido esto; no podemos hablarte ni mal ni bien.

And Laban answereth -- Bethuel also -- and they say, `The thing hath gone out from Jehovah; we are not able to speak unto thee bad or good;

51 A hí está Rebeca, delante de ti: tómala y vete, y sea mujer del hijo de tu señor, como lo ha dicho Jehová.

lo, Rebekah before thee, take and go, and she is a wife to thy lord's son, as Jehovah hath spoken.'

52 C uando el criado de Abraham oyó estas palabras, se inclinó a tierra ante Jehová.

And it cometh to pass, when the servant of Abraham hath heard their words, that he boweth himself towards the earth before Jehovah;

53 D espués sacó el criado alhajas de plata, alhajas de oro y vestidos, y lo dio a Rebeca; también dio cosas preciosas a su hermano y a su madre.

and the servant taketh out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and giveth to Rebekah; precious things also he hath given to her brother and to her mother.

54 L uego comieron y bebieron, él y los hombres que venían con él, y pasaron allí la noche. Por la mañana, al levantarse, el criado dijo: —Enviadme a mi señor.

And they eat and drink, he and the men who with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he saith, `Send me to my lord;'

55 P ero el hermano y la madre de Rebeca respondieron: —Espere la muchacha con nosotros al menos diez días, y después irá.

and her brother saith -- her mother also -- `Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterwards doth she go.'

56 É l les dijo: —No me detengáis, ya que Jehová ha prosperado mi camino; despachadme para que regrese donde está mi señor.

And he saith unto them, `Do not delay me, seeing Jehovah hath prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord;'

57 E llos respondieron entonces: —Llamemos a la muchacha y preguntémosle.

and they say, `Let us call for the young person, and ask at her mouth;'

58 L lamaron, pues, a Rebeca y le preguntaron: —¿Irás tú con este hombre? Ella respondió: —Sí, iré.

and they call for Rebekah, and say unto her, `Dost thou go with this man?' and she saith, `I go.'

59 E ntonces dejaron ir a su hermana Rebeca, a su nodriza y también al criado de Abraham y a sus hombres.

And they send away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men;

60 Y bendijeron a Rebeca, diciendo: «Hermana nuestra, sé madre de millares de millares, y conquisten tus descendientes la puerta de sus enemigos.»

and they bless Rebekah, and say to her, `Thou our sister; become thou thousands of myriads, and thy seed doth possess the gate of those hating it.'

61 R ebeca y sus doncellas se levantaron, montaron en los camellos y siguieron al hombre. Así, pues, el criado tomó a Rebeca y se fue.

And Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant taketh Rebekah and goeth.

62 M ientras tanto, Isaac había vuelto del pozo del «Viviente-que-me-ve», pues habitaba en el Neguev.

And Isaac hath come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,

63 H abía salido Isaac a meditar al campo, a la hora de la tarde, y alzando sus ojos vio los camellos que venían.

and Isaac goeth out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, camels are coming.

64 R ebeca también alzó sus ojos, vio a Isaac y descendió del camello,

And Rebekah lifteth up her eyes, and seeth Isaac, and alighteth from off the camel;

65 p ues había preguntado al criado: —¿Quién es ese hombre que viene por el campo hacia nosotros? Y el criado había respondido: —Éste es mi señor. Tomó ella entonces el velo y se cubrió.

and she saith unto the servant, `Who this man who is walking in the field to meet us?' and the servant saith, `It my lord;' and she taketh the veil, and covereth herself.

66 E l criado le contó a Isaac todo lo que había hecho.

And the servant recounteth to Isaac all the things that he hath done,

67 L uego Isaac la trajo a la tienda de su madre Sara, y tomó a Rebeca por mujer y la amó. Así se consoló Isaac de la muerte de su madre.

and Isaac bringeth her in unto the tent of Sarah his mother, and he taketh Rebekah, and she becometh his wife, and he loveth her, and Isaac is comforted after his mother.
