1 » Si en la tierra que Jehová, tu Dios, te da para que la poseas, es hallado alguien muerto, tendido en el campo, y no se sabe quién lo mató,

`When one is found slain on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee to possess it -- fallen in a field -- it is not known who hath smitten him,

2 t us ancianos y tus jueces saldrán y medirán la distancia hasta las ciudades que están alrededor del muerto.

then have thine elders and thy judges gone out and measured unto the cities which round about the slain one,

3 E ntonces los ancianos de la ciudad más cercana al lugar donde fue hallado el muerto, tomarán de entre las vacas una becerra que no haya trabajado ni llevado yugo.

and it hath been, the city which near unto the slain one, even the elders of that city have taken a heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, which hath not drawn in the yoke,

4 L os ancianos de aquella ciudad traerán la becerra a un valle escabroso, que nunca haya sido arado ni sembrado, y quebrarán la cerviz de la becerra allí en el valle.

and the elders of that city have brought down the heifer unto a hard valley, which is not tilled nor sown, and have beheaded there the heifer in the valley.

5 » Entonces se acercarán los sacerdotes hijos de Leví, porque a ellos los escogió Jehová, tu Dios, para que lo sirvan y bendigan en el nombre de Jehová, y por su veredicto se decidirá toda disputa y toda ofensa.

`And the priests, sons of Levi, have come nigh -- for on them hath Jehovah thy God fixed to serve Him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah, and by their mouth is every strife, and every stroke --

6 L uego todos los ancianos de la ciudad más cercana al lugar donde se halló el muerto lavarán sus manos sobre la becerra cuya cerviz fue quebrada en el valle,

and all the elders of that city, who are near unto the slain one, do wash their hands over the heifer which is beheaded in the valley,

7 y harán esta declaración: “Nuestras manos no han derramado esta sangre, ni nuestros ojos lo han visto.

and they have answered and said, Our hands have not shed this blood, and our eyes have not seen --

8 P erdona, Jehová, a tu pueblo Israel, al cual redimiste, y no culpes de sangre inocente a tu pueblo Israel.” Así les será perdonada esa sangre,

receive atonement for Thy people Israel, whom Thou hast ransomed, O Jehovah, and suffer not innocent blood in the midst of Thy people Israel; and the blood hath been pardoned to them,

9 y tú apartarás la culpa de la sangre inocente de en medio de ti, cuando hagas lo que es recto ante los ojos de Jehová. Diversas leyes

and thou dost put away the innocent blood out of thy midst, for thou dost that which right in the eyes of Jehovah.

10 » Cuando salgas a la guerra contra tus enemigos, y Jehová, tu Dios, los entregue en tus manos y tomes algunos cautivos,

`When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God hath given them into thy hand, and thou hast taken captive its captivity,

11 s i ves entre ellos una mujer hermosa, y la codicias y la tomas para ti por mujer,

and hast seen in the captivity a woman of fair form, and hast delighted in her, and hast taken to thee for a wife,

12 l a meterás en tu casa. Ella se rapará la cabeza y se cortará las uñas,

then thou hast brought her in unto the midst of thy household, and she hath shaved her head, and prepared her nails,

13 s e quitará el vestido de cautiva y se quedará en tu casa llorando a su padre y a su madre un mes entero. Después podrás llegarte a ella; tú serás su marido y ella será tu mujer.

and turned aside the raiment of her captivity from off her, and hath dwelt in thy house, and bewailed her father and her mother a month of days, and afterwards thou dost go in unto her and hast married her, and she hath been to thee for a wife:

14 S i después resulta que no te agrada, la dejarás en libertad; no la venderás por dinero ni la tratarás como esclava, por cuanto la humillaste.

`And it hath been -- if thou hast not delighted in her, that thou hast sent her away at her desire, and thou dost not at all sell her for money; thou dost not tyrannize over her, because that thou hast humbled her.

15 » Si un hombre que tiene dos mujeres ama a una y a la otra no, y tanto la que ama como la otra le han dado hijos, y el hijo primogénito es de la mujer que no ama,

`When a man hath two wives, the one loved and the other hated, and they have borne to him sons (the loved one and the hated one), and the first-born son hath been to the hated one;

16 e n el día que haga heredar a sus hijos lo que tenga, no podrá dar el derecho de primogenitura al hijo de la mujer que ama con preferencia al hijo de la mujer que no ama, que es el primogénito.

then it hath been, in the day of his causing his sons to inherit that which he hath, he is not able to declare first-born the son of the loved one, in the face of the son of the hated one -- the first-born.

17 A l hijo de la que no ama reconocerá como primogénito, para darle el doble de lo que corresponda a cada uno de los demás, porque él es el principio de su vigor, y suyo es el derecho de la primogenitura.

But the first-born, son of the hated one, he doth acknowledge, to give to him a double portion of all that is found with him, for he the beginning of his strength; to him the right of the first-born.

18 » Si alguien tiene un hijo contumaz y rebelde, que no obedece a la voz de su padre ni a la voz de su madre, y que ni aun castigándolo los obedece,

`When a man hath a son apostatizing and rebellious -- he is not hearkening to the voice of his father, and to the voice of his mother, and they have chastised him, and he doth not hearken unto them --

19 s u padre y su madre lo tomarán y lo llevarán ante los ancianos de su ciudad, a la puerta del lugar donde viva,

then laid hold on him have his father and his mother, and they have brought him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place,

20 y dirán a los ancianos de la ciudad: “Este hijo nuestro es contumaz y rebelde, no obedece a nuestra voz; es glotón y borracho.”

and have said unto the elders of his city, Our son -- this one -- is apostatizing and rebellious; he is not hearkening to our voice -- a glutton and drunkard;

21 E ntonces todos los hombres de su ciudad lo apedrearán, y morirá. Así extirparás el mal de en medio de ti, y cuando todo Israel lo sepa, temerá.

and all the men of his city have stoned him with stones, and he hath died, and thou hast put away the evil out of thy midst, and all Israel do hear and fear.

22 » Si alguien ha cometido algún crimen digno de muerte, y lo hacéis morir colgado en un madero,

`And when there is in a man a sin -- a cause of death, and he hath been put to death, and thou hast hanged him on a tree,

23 n o dejaréis que su cuerpo pase la noche sobre el madero; sin falta lo enterrarás el mismo día, porque maldito por Dios es el colgado. Así no contaminarás la tierra que Jehová, tu Dios, te da como heredad.

his corpse doth not remain on the tree, for thou dost certainly bury him in that day -- for a thing lightly esteemed of God the hanged one -- and thou dost not defile thy ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance.
