1 A sí ha dicho Jehová: «Yo levanto un viento destructor contra Babilonia y contra sus moradores que se levantan contra mí.

Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am stirring up against Babylon, And the inhabitants of Leb -- My withstanders, A destroying wind,

2 E nviaré a Babilonia aventadores que la avienten, y vaciarán su tierra; porque se pondrán contra ella de todas partes en el día del mal.

And I have sent to Babylon fanners, And they have fanned it, and they empty its land, For they have been against it, Round about -- in the day of evil.

3 O rdenaré al flechero que tensa su arco y al que se enorgullece de su coraza, que no perdonen a sus jóvenes y que destruyan todo su ejército.

Let not the treader tread his bow, Nor lift himself up in his coat of mail, Nor have ye pity on her young men, Devote ye to destruction all her host.

4 C aerán muertos en la tierra de los caldeos y alanceados en sus calles.

And fallen have the wounded in the land of the Chaldeans, And the pierced-through in her streets.

5 P orque Israel y Judá no han enviudado de su Dios, Jehová de los ejércitos, aunque su tierra fue llena de pecado contra el Santo de Israel.

For, not forsaken is Israel and Judah, By its God -- by Jehovah of Hosts, For their land hath been full of guilt, Against the Holy One of Israel.

6 » ¡Huid de en medio de Babilonia! ¡Poneos a salvo, para que no perezcáis a causa de su maldad!, porque es el tiempo de la venganza de Jehová: él va a darle su merecido.

Flee ye from the midst of Babylon, And deliver ye each his soul, Be not cut off in its iniquity, For a time of vengeance it to Jehovah, Recompence He is rendering to her.

7 U na copa de oro que embriagó a toda la tierra fue Babilonia en la mano de Jehová. De su vino bebieron los pueblos; se aturdieron las naciones.

A golden cup Babylon in the hand of Jehovah, Making drunk all the earth, Of its wine drunk have nations, Therefore boast themselves do nations.

8 ¡ De repente cayó Babilonia y se hizo pedazos! ¡Gemid por ella! Tomad bálsamo para su dolor: quizá sane.»

Suddenly hath Babylon fallen, Yea, it is broken, howl ye for it, Take balm for her pain, if so be it may be healed.

9 C uramos a Babilonia, pero no ha sanado. ¡Dejadla ya, y vayámonos cada uno a nuestra tierra, porque ha llegado hasta el cielo su juicio y se ha alzado hasta las nubes!

We healed Babylon, and she was not healed, Forsake her, and we go, each to his land, For come unto the heavens hath its judgment, And it hath been lifted up unto the clouds.

10 J ehová sacó a luz nuestras justicias; venid y contemos en Sión la obra de Jehová, nuestro Dios.

Jehovah hath brought forth our righteousnesses, Come, and we recount in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.

11 ¡ Limpiad las flechas! ¡Embrazad los escudos! Jehová ha despertado el espíritu de los reyes de Media, porque contra Babilonia es su pensamiento, para destruirla. Porque la venganza es de Jehová, la venganza por su templo.

Cleanse ye the arrows, fill the shields, Stirred up hath Jehovah the spirit of the kings of Madia, For against Babylon His device to destroy it, For the vengeance of Jehovah it, The vengeance of His temple.

12 ¡ Levantad bandera sobre los muros de Babilonia, reforzad la guardia, poned centinelas, preparad emboscadas!, porque Jehová planeó y va a poner por obra lo que ha dicho contra los moradores de Babilonia.

Unto the walls of Babylon lift up an ensign, Strengthen the watch, Establish the watchers, prepare the ambush, For Jehovah hath both devised and done that which He spake, Concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

13 T ú, la que moras entre muchas aguas, rica en tesoros: ha llegado tu fin, la medida de tu codicia.

O dweller on many waters, abundant in treasures, Come in hath thine end, the measure of thy dishonest gain.

14 J ehová de los ejércitos juró por sí mismo, diciendo: «Yo te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y levantarán contra ti gritería de triunfo.»

Sworn hath Jehovah of Hosts by Himself, That, Surely I have filled thee men as the cankerworm, And they have cried against thee -- shouting.

15 É l es el que hizo la tierra con su poder, el que afirmó el mundo con su sabiduría y extendió los cielos con su inteligencia.

The maker of earth by His power, The establisher of the world by His wisdom, Who by His understanding stretched out the heavens,

16 A su voz se producen tumultos de aguas en los cielos; él hace subir las nubes desde lo último de la tierra. Él trae la lluvia con los relámpagos y saca el viento de sus depósitos.

At the voice He giveth forth, A multitude of waters in the heavens, And He causeth vapours to come up from the end of the earth, Lightnings for rain He hath made, And He bringeth out wind from His treasures.

17 T odo hombre se ha vuelto necio, carece de conocimiento. Y todo artífice se avergüenza de su escultura, porque mentira es su ídolo, no tiene espíritu.

Brutish hath been every man by knowledge, Put to shame hath been every refiner by a graven image, For false his molten image, And there is no breath in them.

18 V anidad son y obra digna de burla, que en el tiempo del castigo perecerán.

Vanity they -- work of errors, In the time of their inspection they perish.

19 N o es como ellos la porción de Jacob, porque él (Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre) es el formador de todo, e Israel es el cetro de su herencia.

Not like these the portion of Jacob, For He former of all things, And the rod of His inheritance, Jehovah of Hosts His name.

20 « Martillo sois para mí, y armas de guerra: por medio de ti quebrantaré naciones, y por medio de ti destruiré reinos.

An axe thou to me -- weapons of war, And I have broken in pieces by thee nations, And I have destroyed by thee kingdoms,

21 P or medio de ti quebrantaré caballos con sus jinetes, y por medio de ti quebrantaré carros con quienes los montan.

And I have broken in pieces by thee horse and its rider, And I have broken in pieces by thee chariot and its charioteer,

22 A simismo por medio de ti quebrantaré a hombres y a mujeres; por medio de ti quebrantaré a viejos y a jóvenes; por medio de ti quebrantaré a muchachos y a muchachas.

And I have broken in pieces by thee man and woman, And I have broken in pieces by thee old and young, And I have broken in pieces by thee young man and virgin,

23 T ambién por medio de ti quebrantaré a pastores con sus rebaños; por medio de ti quebrantaré a labradores con sus yuntas; y a jefes y a príncipes quebrantaré por medio de ti.

And I have broken in pieces by thee shepherd and his drove, And I have broken in pieces by thee husbandman and his team, And I have broken in pieces by thee governors and prefects.

24 » Yo pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los moradores de Caldea todo el mal que ellos hicieron en Sión delante de vuestros ojos, dice Jehová.

And I have recompensed to Babylon, And to all inhabitants of Chaldea, All the evil that they have done in Zion, Before your eyes -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

25 C iertamente yo, dice Jehová, estoy contra ti, monte destructor que destruiste toda la tierra. Extenderé mi mano contra ti, te haré rodar de las peñas y te reduciré a un monte quemado.

Lo, I against thee, O destroying mount, An affirmation of Jehovah, That is destroying all the earth, And I have stretched out My hand against thee, And I have rolled thee from the rocks, And given thee for a burnt mountain.

26 N adie tomará de ti piedra para esquina ni piedra para cimiento, porque serás una desolación eterna, ha dicho Jehová.

And they take not out of thee a stone for a corner, And a stone for foundations, For desolations age-during art thou, An affirmation of Jehovah.

27 » ¡Alzad bandera en la tierra, tocad trompeta en las naciones! ¡Preparad pueblos contra ella, juntad contra ella los reinos de Ararat, de Mini y de Askenaz! ¡Nombrad contra ella un capitán, haced subir caballos como langostas erizadas!

Lift ye up an ensign in the land, Blow a trumpet among nations, Sanctify against it nations, Summon against it the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz, Appoint against it an infant head, Cause the horse to ascend as the rough cankerworm.

28 ¡ Preparad contra ella naciones, los reyes de Media, sus capitanes, todos sus príncipes y todo territorio de su dominio!»

Sanctify against it the nations with the kings of Media, Its governors and all its prefects, And all the land of its dominion.

29 T iembla la tierra y se aflige, porque son confirmados contra Babilonia los planes de Jehová para convertir la tierra de Babilonia en un desierto donde no quede morador alguno.

And shake doth the land, and it is pained, For stood against Babylon have the purposes of Jehovah, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant.

30 L os valientes de Babilonia dejaron de pelear, se encerraron en sus fortalezas; les faltaron las fuerzas, se volvieron como mujeres; incendiadas están sus casas, rotos sus cerrojos.

Ceased have the mighty of Babylon to fight, They have remained in strongholds, Failed hath their might, they have become woman, They have burnt her tabernacles, Broken have been her bars.

31 C orreo se encuentra con correo, mensajero se encuentra con mensajero para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que su ciudad es tomada por todas partes.

Runner to meet runner doth run, And announcer to meet announcer, To announce to the king of Babylon, For, captured hath been his city -- at the extremity.

32 L os vados fueron tomados, los baluartes incendiados y se aterraron los hombres de guerra.

And the passages have been captured, And the reeds they have burnt with fire, And the men of war have been troubled.

33 P orque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: «La hija de Babilonia es como una era en tiempo de trilla; y de aquí a poco le llegará el tiempo de la siega.»

For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, The daughter of Babylon as a threshing-floor, The time of her threshing -- yet a little, And come hath the time of her harvest.

34 « Me devoró, me desmenuzó Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia. Me dejó como un vaso vacío; me tragó como un dragón, llenó su vientre con lo mejor de mí, y me expulsó.

Devoured us, crushed us, hath Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, He hath set us an empty vessel, He hath swallowed us as a dragon, He hath filled his belly with my dainties, He hath driven us away.

35 ¡ Caiga sobre Babilonia la violencia hecha contra mí y contra mi carne!», dice la moradora de Sión. «Y caiga mi sangre sobre los moradores de Caldea», dice Jerusalén.

My wrong, and my flesh on Babylon, Say doth the inhabitant of Zion, And my blood on the inhabitants of Chaldea, Say doth Jerusalem.

36 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: «Yo juzgo tu causa y llevaré a cabo tu venganza. Secaré su mar y haré que sus fuentes queden secas.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am pleading thy cause, And I have avenged thy vengeance, And dried up its sea, and made its fountains dry.

37 Y será Babilonia un montón de ruinas, guarida de chacales, objeto de espanto y burla, sin morador alguno.

And Babylon hath been for heaps, A habitation of dragons, An astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

38 T odos a una rugirán como leones; como cachorros de leones gruñirán.

Together as young lions they roar, They have shaken themselves as lions' whelps.

39 E n medio de su calor les prepararé banquetes, y haré que se embriaguen, para que se alegren y duerman un sueño eterno del que no despierten, dice Jehová.

In their heat I make their banquets, And I have caused them to drink, so that they exult, And have slept a sleep age-during, And awake not -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

40 L os haré traer como corderos al matadero, como carneros y machos cabríos.»

I cause them to go down as lambs to slaughter, As rams with he-goats.

41 ¡ Cómo fue apresada Babilonia! ¡Cómo fue conquistada la que toda la tierra había alabado! ¡Cómo vino a ser Babilonia un objeto de espanto entre las naciones!

How hath Sheshach been captured, Yea, caught is the praise of the whole earth, How hath Babylon been for an astonishment among nations.

42 S ubió el mar sobre Babilonia; por la multitud de sus olas quedó cubierta.

Come up against Babylon hath the sea, With a multitude of its billows it hath been covered.

43 S us ciudades fueron asoladas; la tierra, un sequedal estéril, será tierra en la que nadie more ni pase por ella ningún ser humano.

Its cities have been for a desolation, A dry land, and a wilderness, A land -- none doth dwell in them, Nor pass over into them doth a son of man.

44 « Juzgaré a Bel en Babilonia y sacaré de su boca lo que se ha tragado. Nunca más vendrán naciones a él, y el muro de Babilonia caerá.

And I have seen after Bel in Babylon, And I have brought forth that which he swallowed -- from his mouth, And flow no more unto him do nations, Also the wall of Babylon hath fallen.

45 ¡ Salid de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salvad vuestra vida del ardor de la ira de Jehová!

Go forth from its midst, O My people, And deliver ye, each his soul, Because of the fierceness of the anger of Jehovah,

46 N o desmaye vuestro corazón; no temáis a causa del rumor que se oirá en el país. Un año vendrá el rumor, y nuevo rumor después de otro año. Habrá violencia en el país y contienda de un tirano contra otro.

And lest your heart be tender, And ye be afraid of the report that is heard in the land, And come in a year hath the report, And after it in a year the report, And violence in the land, ruler against ruler;

47 P or tanto, he aquí vienen días en que yo destruiré los ídolos de Babilonia. Toda su tierra será avergonzada; todos sus muertos caerán en medio de ella.

Therefore, lo, days are coming, And I have seen after the graven images of Babylon. And all its land is ashamed, And all its pierced ones do fall in its midst.

48 L os cielos y la tierra y todo lo que hay en ellos cantarán de gozo contra Babilonia, porque del norte vendrán contra ella destructores, dice Jehová.

And cried aloud against Babylon Have heavens and earth, and all that in them, For, from the north come to it do the spoilers, An affirmation of Jehovah.

49 P or los muertos de Israel caerá Babilonia, como por Babilonia cayeron los muertos de toda la tierra.»

Even Babylon to fall, ye pierced of Israel, Even they of Babylon have fallen, Ye pierced of all the earth.

50 ¡ Los que escapasteis de la espada, id, no os detengáis! ¡Acordaos de Jehová durante mucho tiempo! ¡Y acordaos de Jerusalén!

Ye escaped of the sword, go on, stand not, Remember ye from afar Jehovah, And let Jerusalem come up on your heart.

51 « Estamos avergonzados, porque oímos la afrenta; la confusión cubrió nuestros rostros, porque vinieron extranjeros contra los santuarios de la casa de Jehová.»

We have been ashamed, for we heard reproach, Covered hath shame our faces, For come in have strangers, against the sanctuaries of the house of Jehovah.

52 P or tanto, Jehová dice: «Vienen días en que yo destruiré sus ídolos, y en toda su tierra gemirán los heridos.

Therefore, lo, days are coming, An affirmation of Jehovah, And I have seen after its graven images, And in all its land groan doth the wounded.

53 A unque suba Babilonia hasta el cielo y se fortifique en las alturas, de mí vendrán contra ella destructores, dice Jehová.»

Because Babylon goeth up to the heavens, And because it fenceth the high place of its strength, From Me come into it do spoilers, An affirmation of Jehovah.

54 ¡ Óyese el clamor de Babilonia y el gran quebrantamiento de la tierra de los caldeos!,

A voice of a cry from Babylon, And of great destruction from the land of the Chaldean.

55 p orque Jehová destruye a Babilonia y quita de ella el gran bullicio. Braman sus olas, y como el rugir de muchas aguas resuena la voz de ellos,

For Jehovah is spoiling Babylon, And hath destroyed out of it a great voice, And sounded have its billows as many waters, Given forth a noise hath their voice.

56 p ues viene el destructor contra ella, contra Babilonia, y sus valientes serán apresados, y el arco de ellos será quebrado. Porque Jehová, Dios de retribuciones, da la justa paga.

For come in against it -- against Babylon -- hath a spoiler, And captured have been its mighty ones, Broken have been their bows, For the God of recompences -- Jehovah -- doth certainly repay.

57 Y o embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus jefes, a sus nobles y a sus guerreros. Dormirán el sueño eterno y no despertarán, dice el Rey, cuyo nombre es Jehová de los ejércitos.

And I have caused its princes to drink, And its wise men, its governors, And its prefects, and its mighty ones, And they have slept a sleep age-during, And they awake not -- an affirmation of the king, Jehovah of Hosts His name.

58 A sí dice Jehová de los ejércitos: «El muro ancho de Babilonia será derribado por completo y sus altas puertas serán incendiadas. En vano trabajaron los pueblos, y las naciones se cansaron sólo para el fuego.»

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, the wall of Babylon -- The broad one -- is utterly made bare, And her high gates with fire are burnt, And peoples labour in vain, And nations in fire, and have been weary!

59 P alabra que envió el profeta Jeremías a Seraías hijo de Nerías hijo de Maasías, cuando iba con Sedequías, rey de Judá, a Babilonia, en el cuarto año de su reinado. Seraías dirigía la marcha.

The word that Jeremiah the prophet hath commanded Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Maaseiah, in his going with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign -- and Seraiah a quiet prince;

60 E scribió, pues, Jeremías en un libro todo el mal que había de venir sobre Babilonia, todas las palabras que están escritas contra Babilonia.

and Jeremiah writeth all the evil that cometh unto Babylon on one book -- all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

61 Y dijo Jeremías a Seraías: «Cuando llegues a Babilonia, procura con diligencia leer todas estas cosas.

And Jeremiah saith unto Seraiah, `When thou dost enter Babylon, then thou hast seen, and hast read all these words,

62 D irás: “Jehová, tú has dicho de este lugar que lo vas a destruir hasta no quedar en él nadie que lo habite, ni hombre ni animal, y que para siempre ha de ser asolado.”

and hast said: Jehovah, Thou, Thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that there is none dwelling in it, from man even unto cattle, for it is a desolation age-during.

63 Y cuando acabes de leer este libro, le atarás una piedra y lo echarás en medio del Éufrates,

And it hath come to pass, when thou dost finish reading this book, thou dost bind to it a stone, and hast cast it into the midst of Phrat,

64 y dirás: “Así se hundirá Babilonia, y no se levantará del mal que yo traigo sobre ella. ¡Caerán rendidos!”» Hasta aquí son las palabras de Jeremías.

and said, Thus sink doth Babylon, and it doth not arise, because of the evil that I am bringing in against it, and they have been weary.' Hitherto words of Jeremiah.
