1 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías cuando Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, con todo su ejército, todos los reinos de la tierra bajo el señorío de su mano y todos los pueblos peleaban contra Jerusalén y contra todas sus ciudades. Dijo así:

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah -- and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his force, and all kingdoms of the land of the dominion of his hand, and all the peoples are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all its cities -- saying:

2 « Esto ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Ve y habla a Sedequías, rey de Judá, y dile que así ha dicho Jehová: Yo entregaré esta ciudad al rey de Babilonia, el cual la entregará al fuego.

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel: Go, and thou hast spoken unto Zedekiah king of Judah, and hast said unto him, Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath burned it with fire,

3 Y tú no escaparás de su mano, sino que ciertamente serás apresado y en su mano serás entregado. Tus ojos verán los ojos del rey de Babilonia, que te hablará cara a cara, y entrarás en Babilonia.

and thou, thou dost not escape out of his hand, for thou art certainly caught, and into his hand thou art given, and thine eyes see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth with thy mouth speaketh, and Babylon thou enterest.

4 C on todo, oye palabra de Jehová, Sedequías, rey de Judá, porque así ha dicho Jehová acerca de ti: No morirás a espada.

`Only, hear a word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah, Thus said Jehovah unto thee: Thou dost not die by sword,

5 E n paz morirás, y así como quemaron especias por tus padres, los reyes primeros que fueron antes de ti, las quemarán por ti, y te endecharán diciendo: “¡Ay, señor!”, porque yo he hablado la palabra, dice Jehová.»

in peace thou diest, and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings who have been before thee, so they make a burning for thee; and Ah, lord, they lament for thee, for the word I have spoken -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

6 H abló, pues, el profeta Jeremías a Sedequías, rey de Judá, todas estas palabras en Jerusalén.

And Jeremiah the prophet speaketh unto Zedekiah king of Judah all these words in Jerusalem,

7 Y el ejército del rey de Babilonia peleaba contra Jerusalén y contra todas las ciudades de Judá que habían quedado: contra Laquis y contra Azeca, porque de las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, sólo éstas habían quedado. Violación del pacto de libertar a los siervos hebreos

and the forces of the king of Babylon are fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that are left -- against Lachish, and against Azekah, for these have been left among the cities of Judah, cities of fortresses.

8 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías después que Sedequías hizo pacto con todo el pueblo en Jerusalén, para promulgarles libertad,

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after the making by the king Zedekiah of a covenant with all the people who in Jerusalem, to proclaim to them liberty,

9 q ue cada uno dejara libre a su esclavo hebreo y a su esclava hebrea, y que nadie los usara más como esclavos.

to send out each his man-servant, and each his maid-servant -- the Hebrew and the Hebrewess -- free, so as not to lay service on them, any on a Jew his brother;

10 C uando oyeron todos los jefes y todo el pueblo que había convenido en el pacto de dejar libre cada uno a su esclavo y cada uno a su esclava, que nadie los usara más como esclavos, obedecieron y los dejaron libres.

and hearken do all the heads, and all the people who have come in to the covenant to send forth each his man-servant and each his maid-servant free, so as not to lay service on them any more, yea, they hearken, and send them away;

11 P ero después se arrepintieron e hicieron volver a los esclavos y a las esclavas que habían dejado libres, y de nuevo los sujetaron como esclavos y esclavas.

and they turn afterwards, and cause the men-servants and the maid-servants to return, whom they had sent forth free, and they subdue them for men-servants and for maid-servants.

12 V ino, pues, palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

13 « Así dice Jehová, Dios de Israel: Yo hice pacto con vuestros padres el día que los saqué de tierra de Egipto, de casa de servidumbre, diciendo:

`Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, I -- I made a covenant with your fathers in the day of My bringing them forth from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants, saying,

14 A l cabo de siete años dejará cada uno a su hermano hebreo que le hubiera sido vendido; durante seis años le servirá, y luego lo dejará ir libre. Pero vuestros padres no me escucharon ni inclinaron su oído.

At the end of seven years ye do send forth each his brother, the Hebrew, who is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, yea, thou hast sent him forth free from thee: and your fathers hearkened not unto Me, nor inclined their ear.

15 V osotros os habíais hoy convertido y habíais hecho lo recto delante de mis ojos, anunciando cada uno libertad a su prójimo; y habíais hecho pacto en mi presencia, en la casa en la cual es invocado mi nombre.

`And ye turn back, ye to-day, and ye do that which is right in Mine eyes, to proclaim liberty each to his neighbour, and ye make a covenant before Me in the house over which My name is called.

16 P ero os habéis vuelto atrás y profanado mi nombre, y habéis vuelto a tomar cada uno a su esclavo y cada uno a su esclava, que habíais dejado libres a su voluntad, y los habéis sujetado para que os sean esclavos y esclavas.

And -- ye turn back, and pollute My name, and ye cause each his man-servant and each his maid-servant, whom he had sent forth free, (at their pleasure,) to return, and ye subdue them to be to you for men-servants and for maid-servants.

17 P or tanto, así dice Jehová: Ya que vosotros no me habéis escuchado para promulgar cada uno libertad a su hermano y cada uno a su compañero, he aquí que yo promulgo libertad, dice Jehová, a la espada, a la pestilencia y al hambre; y os pondré por afrenta ante todos los reinos de la tierra.

`Therefore, thus said Jehovah: Ye have not hearkened unto Me to proclaim freedom, each to his brother, and each to his neighbour; lo, I am proclaiming to you liberty -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine, and I have given you for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth.

18 Y entregaré a los hombres que quebrantaron mi pacto, que no han llevado a efecto las palabras del pacto que celebraron en mi presencia dividiendo en dos partes el becerro y pasando por medio de ellas;

`And I have given the men who are transgressing My covenant, who have not established the words of the covenant that they have made before Me, by the calf, that they have cut in two, and pass through between its pieces --

19 a los jefes de Judá y a los jefes de Jerusalén, a los oficiales, a los sacerdotes y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, que pasaron entre las partes del becerro,

heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land those passing through between the pieces of the calf --

20 l os entregaré en manos de sus enemigos y en manos de los que buscan su vida; y sus cadáveres serán comida para las aves del cielo y para las bestias de la tierra.

yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase hath been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth.

21 A Sedequías, rey de Judá, y a sus jefes los entregaré en manos de sus enemigos, en manos de los que buscan su vida y en manos del ejército del rey de Babilonia, que se ha retirado de vosotros.

`And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you.

22 Y o mandaré, dice Jehová, y los haré volver a esta ciudad. Pelearán contra ella, la tomarán y la entregarán al fuego. Y convertiré en desolación las ciudades de Judá, hasta no quedar habitante alguno.»

Lo, I am commanding -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation -- without inhabitant.'
