1 T enía entonces toda la tierra una sola lengua y unas mismas palabras.

And the whole earth is of one pronunciation, and of the same words,

2 A conteció que cuando salieron de oriente hallaron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar, y se establecieron allí.

and it cometh to pass, in their journeying from the east, that they find a valley in the land of Shinar, and dwell there;

3 U n día se dijeron unos a otros: «Vamos, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego.» Así el ladrillo les sirvió en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de mezcla.

and they say each one to his neighbour, `Give help, let us make bricks, and burn thoroughly:' and the brick is to them for stone, and the bitumen hath been to them for mortar.

4 D espués dijeron: «Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, por si fuéramos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.»

And they say, `Give help, let us build for ourselves a city and tower, and its head in the heavens, and make for ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of all the earth.'

5 J ehová descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.

And Jehovah cometh down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men have builded;

6 Y dijo Jehová: «El pueblo es uno, y todos estos tienen un solo lenguaje; han comenzado la obra y nada los hará desistir ahora de lo que han pensado hacer.

and Jehovah saith, `Lo, the people one, and one pronunciation to them all, and this it hath dreamed of doing; and now, nothing is restrained from them of that which they have purposed to do.

7 A hora, pues, descendamos y confundamos allí su lengua, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.»

Give help, let us go down, and mingle there their pronunciation, so that a man doth not understand the pronunciation of his companion.'

8 A sí los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.

And Jehovah doth scatter them from thence over the face of all the earth, and they cease to build the city;

9 P or eso se la llamó Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra. Descendientes de Sem

therefore hath called its name Babel, for there hath Jehovah mingled the pronunciation of all the earth, and from thence hath Jehovah scattered them over the face of all the earth.

10 É stos son los descendientes de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.

These births of Shem: Shem a son of an hundred years, and begetteth Arphaxad two years after the deluge.

11 V ivió Sem, después que engendró a Arfaxad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Shem liveth after his begetting Arphaxad five hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

12 A rfaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sala.

And Arphaxad hath lived five and thirty years, and begetteth Salah.

13 V ivió Arfaxad, después que engendró a Sala, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Arphaxad liveth after his begetting Salah four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

14 S ala vivió treinta años, y engendró a Heber.

And Salah hath lived thirty years, and begetteth Eber.

15 V ivió Sala, después que engendró a Heber, cuatrocientos tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Salah liveth after his begetting Eber four hundred and three years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

16 H eber vivió treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Peleg.

And Eber liveth four and thirty years, and begetteth Peleg.

17 V ivió Heber, después que engendró a Peleg, cuatrocientos treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Eber liveth after his begetting Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

18 P eleg vivió treinta años, y engendró a Reu.

And Peleg liveth thirty years, and begetteth Reu.

19 V ivió Peleg, después que engendró a Reu, doscientos nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Peleg liveth after his begetting Reu two hundred and nine years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

20 R eu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Serug.

And Reu liveth two and thirty years, and begetteth Serug.

21 V ivió Reu, después que engendró a Serug, doscientos siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Reu liveth after his begetting Serug two hundred and seven years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

22 S erug vivió treinta años, y engendró a Nacor.

And Serug liveth thirty years, and begetteth Nahor.

23 V ivió Serug, después que engendró a Nacor, doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Serug liveth after his begetting Nahor two hundred years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

24 N acor vivió veintinueve años, y engendró a Taré.

And Nahor liveth nine and twenty years, and begetteth Terah.

25 V ivió Nacor, después que engendró a Taré, ciento diecinueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas.

And Nahor liveth after his begetting Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begetteth sons and daughters.

26 T aré vivió setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Descendientes de Taré

And Terah liveth seventy years, and begetteth Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

27 É stos son los descendientes de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán, y Harán engendró a Lot.

And these births of Terah: Terah hath begotten Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran hath begotten Lot;

28 H arán murió antes que su padre Taré en Ur de los caldeos, la tierra donde había nacido.

and Haran dieth in the presence of Terah his father, in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

29 A bram y Nacor tomaron para sí mujeres; el nombre de la mujer de Abram era Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.

And Abram and Nahor take to themselves wives; the name of Abram's wife Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife Milcah, daughter of Haran, father of Milcah, and father of Iscah.

30 P ero Sarai era estéril y no tenía hijos.

And Sarai is barren -- she hath no child.

31 T omó Taré a su hijo Abram, y a Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y a Sarai, su nuera, mujer de su hijo Abram, y salió con ellos de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán. Pero cuando llegaron a Harán se quedaron allí.

And Terah taketh Abram his son, and Lot, son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, wife of Abram his son, and they go out with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come unto Charan, and dwell there.

32 Y fueron los días de Taré doscientos cinco años, y murió Taré en Harán.

And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan.
